I Met Someone Special Thru Hiking Mexico

I just finished hiking the Trans-Mexican Sur Bikepacking trail.
I was surprised by a lot.
1. The climate of Oaxaca state
2. Running into 4 seperate groups of followers
3. Saying goodbye
4. Trail magic, and
5. The world’s widest tree!

Love your video updates and I eagerly await each and every one of them. You are my trail magic! You and Wombat are a gift to everyone following you and to those you meet along the way. And, you are a gift as I wish I was on the trails myself, even though they are just day hikes, but I need to rehab my shin splits that are quite painful at the moment. It’s my body telling me it can’t do where my mind what’s to take it! Aargh 😡 Im sorry 😢 re loneliness on the trail, and the challenge that presents to you. Big hugs to you and wombat.

Love the small towns in Mexico. I'm considering spending some time there to look into a retirement home. I begin my NoBo PCT hike next week so will be heading north a bit ahead of you and Wombat. At my age I don't expect much camaraderie on the trail but I know it will be life changing regardless of who I spend time with and how much solitude I have. All the best to you and safe travels!

Oh that’s exciting!! I hope you get off to a great start. As they say, getting to the starting line is the hardest part. I follow @packtoter here on KZread - he seems to have really positive interactions on trail as a “more lived person” 😅… and he has great advice so it might be worth taking a look at his channel.

Wonderful update. Trials and tribulations, including emotional ones, are a part of life during these solo outdoors adventures (my experience is only from bicycle tours), but these emotional storms also seem easier to deal with, because something as simple as a good night's sleep, a good cup of coffee or meal in a cafe, or a quick conversation with someone along the way seem to dispel them quickly. I would say they are easier to deal with than the emotional upheavals we may get from working in a stressful office environment for months or years on end. I'd probably want a little of both, though, just to keep some variety. Good luck on the next leg.

I couldn’t agree more. Though I think the background of being alert about my personal safety is similar to the stress of office life. It has a way of compounding over time.

@rnard Yes, I'm sure traveling alone as a woman, even with a dog, adds another level of insecurity. After I wrote my comment, I thought about why I felt this way, and I thought that we as a species have only lived a settled life for 10,000 years or so, following millions of years as hunter gatherers. Your current lifestyle is a bit like that of a hunter gatherer: Always on the move, never knowing for sure what's around the next corner, and finding things out as you go along. In a sense, it's what we're made for, but that doesn't mean it's all cream and strawberries. EDIT: And we humans ARE a social species, of course, we're not cats, so you do need that occasional human connection to stay sane, in the long run.

As a viewer I think we mostly think about the getting from one physical location to the next but given this video’s talk about saying goodbye to people who help you feel a human connection it made me wonder what the journey is about for you. You must have so much time to contemplate. I bet you’ve got tons of fascinating ideas developed over your time alone. Stay safe and have fun!

It’s about 1) closing a gender gap, 2) I’d be lying if I didn’t say the Ego of a world first, and 3) life. I’m growing and evolving the same as everyone else. 🤘
