I MESSED UP! Tacoma Vibration Issues - Fixing My STUPID Mistake 3rd Gen Tacoma Vibration After Lift

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I am fixing my Tacoma vibration issues after I made a stupid mistake while working on my truck and installing my Icon 3-leaf add a leaf.
Hopefully this video helps others to avoid this mistake as it cause some super annoying Tacoma vibration while driving. I had to admit that I messed up by not putting in enough research to avoid this mistake.
Thankfully, the fix worked and the truck drives like a dream now!!

@slv_car_refinisher6864 yeah I did the work (in a separate video) and used that video to confirm my mistake. I believe only certain years/trims of Tacomas had the shims. In your case, might need to try carrier bearing drop or add in 1 degree of shim for each inch of lift. Also if it’s a 4x4, first make sure it isn’t the needle bearing. Drive until you feel the vibration & shift into 4HI. If the vibration goes away, it’s a needle bearing issue & you need to do an ECGS bushing to fix it.

If you have a 4x4 check that it isn't a needle bearing issue. If the vibration goes away when you're in 4x4 then it's needle bearing. Otherwise, it's recommended to do 1 degree of shim for each inch of lift you have.

Yes mine was coming from the rear. If it's coming from the front and your truck is 4x4, it may be your needle bearing which you'll want to replace with an ECGS bushing. You can test it by throwing the truck in 4x4. If the sound/vibration goes away when in 4WD, it's likely the needle bearing issue.

I have asked this question to other channels and still no answer, so let’s see your guess. My Tacoma is a 2019 SR5 stock, got it brand new. When I come to a stop with or without using my brakes there is a vibration between 15-25 mph. It is not major but it is annoying. They took my truck back and had it checked, the loner they gave me was a new 2019 TRD model and it is the same issue. They told they fixed it by replacing the rear axle. I drove it home and it seemed to be fixed until I slowed without braking and same issue took it back they gave me another loner same issue. They even had a technician come down to my dealership and could not understand what the issue was either but felt the vibration. So my question is have you heard of this or anyone on this channel have the same issue? Still not fixed but they gave me side steps my pick for free, bonus.

So weird. I didn't know the 2020+ didn't have them. For your vibration, look up "Tacoma needle bearing vibration" if you have a 4x4.. could be that. Usually putting the truck in 4x4 will make the vibration go away & that's how you know it's the needle bearing. If not, try the tires but it could be from the lift still. @@KnightWheelsMedia thanks. I did the carrier bearing spacer just for good measure. Dont like the way they balanced my stock wheels. Have some RRW wheels headed here and gonna re balance. If that doesnt fix it i will try something else but it feels like a tire outta balance

No mine was more of a small vibration in the steering wheel and pedals around the 20-35mph range

@@KnightWheelsMedia It’s developed into that. I added a carrier bearing drop without change. The suspension shop wants to do a diff drop and go from there. What a pain. I think it’s the needle bearing.

Ah yeah needle bearing could do it. Gotta do the ECGS bushing to replace it 👎🏼

@behindenemylines let me know if you find a resolution, I have the same issue with a 2.5" lift. I put it in 4wd and it goes away, but sounds like it's coming from the mid to rear though

  • @KnightWheelsMedia

If it goes away when you put it in 4x4 it’s most likely the needle bearing. You’ll want to upgrade to the ECGS bushing.

A few others have commented that as well. What package is your Tacoma? I wonder if they're only on the TRD Off Road/Pro versions maybe. If not, they might have just redesigned slightly for 2020+ and removed the shims.
