    The devil is in the details. If you look back at the rendering video the veins push the water along the outside walls of the housing, not between the two impellers. In addition the two impellers “seal” against each other in the middle. This is what causes the pumping action. AVE did a good video on a hydraulic pump using this principle a while back. I think getting a good seal will be your biggest is issue. A jet ski impeller type pump might work better for 3D printing as I feel that the sealing is less important.

    That's correct. He should see how a gear pump works. It should work according to the principle "volume displacement". Of course, everything has to be as sealed as possible ^^

    Next time, try a peristaltic pump; that way you won't have to water proof anything or detail with the acrylic. You can just use a regular hose, some bearings and a motor.

    For me it seems like you mix two different types of pumps. Your first impellers seem similar to vacuum pump's impellers basing on different pressures regions, but they don't seal each other and distances from body are to big to work in this way. As traditional pump it may work way batter if distances from body are smaller

  • @korishan
    @korishan2 жыл бұрын

    A few things to note: * The cover needs better sealing. You attempted with the 2nd and 3rd impellers by putting some silicon on it, but that doesn't fully seal. You need to have a channel and put like a rubber seal in the grove. You can get these in a spool to cut to length * The clearance between impeller and housing is too much. Ideally you want a half mm or less. The closer the impeller is to the housing, the better. The gap allows water and air to move "around" the impeller instead of being forced "through" the impeller path * Most dual impellers work more efficiently if they are lined up, where the fins are almost touching. You have a lot of space between the fins as they rotate, allowing air/water to more easily flow around them instead of being pushed by them. The 3 designs you showed here have some promises. The first one doesn't seem to be the best, tho. Align the fins closer to each, maybe 1 tooth apart, decrease the clearance of the housing & impellers, use a better seal, and repeat your tests. You'll find a much different result afterwards.

    1st design is the best, but assembled completely wrong. Impellers' hands must touch each other all the time. They are designed to be that way. Also there should not be gaps between side walls, front and back lids and the impellers - gaps gives the way for fluid to escape. And speed is too fast. You should make reductor to lower impellers rotation speed.

    the impellers are supposed to be perfectly lined to each other to force the water out the outlet, the way you have them setup creates a path for the water to flow back between each impeller... during the rotation the volume at outletside is supposed to decrease by rotation intill the impeller passes the outlett. also if you think about it, outlet and inlet sides are equal in this design, there is no difference between them, a pump with a single impeller with this type of impeller has the inlett in the middle on top of the impeller, basicly you have two outlets and no inlets in your design. try that, dual inlett on top, and delete one of your outlets, and align the impellers so the tips of the blades close the gap and forces the water out the outlet.

    I think you completely misunderstood function of pumps! You have a gear pump design, it should use big teeth, the liquid is pumped by the teeth along the outside perimeters, point where the gears/teeth touch each other should be watertight! Using impellers on gear pump is counterproductive, either use gears on gear pump, or build an impeller pump with impeller!

    This is a unique idea but you don't understand do the fluid dynamics behind an impeller pump which is why this is working horribly impeller pumps work by pulling in water forwards into the impeller and accelerating it outwards against the body of the pump which has a curved shape that causes the water to accelerate out words expelling it from the pump look at a turbocharger
