Kirby's Star Allies actually has a bonus level where it plays the original Kirby music with JoyCon rumbles. It was a pretty cool trick. Genuinely happy to see someone would try doing it themselves!
The thing is, the HD Rumble’s ability to make music isn’t new to me as the secret final level in Kirby Star Allies finishes with a giant Kirby statue coming out of the ground as your controller plays the first bit of Green Greens.
Can't wait wait for Megalovania with vibrations on Game Builder Garage.
In one of the last levels of kirby star allies, the game uses joycon vibration to play green greens. Super neat!

this is actually beautiful. the idea of using electronics to make music in this fashion projects an idea of some kind of dystopian world where someone living in the vast land fills of the planet is trying to brighten everyone's day a bit by scrounging electronics together to make music
The guy with the floppytron has some competition now!
The post production on the recording was so nice. Really pleasant sound

I can't believe this only has a few hundred thousand views. 1. It's amazing. 2. You put in so much effort, it deserves at least a few million. 3. It's great to know I can add "Joy-Con" to my list of played instruments (although I'm significantly lazier and will probably just sample a C). Seriously, love it.

This man needs to become famous this instant, the production quality was amazing!
a little while ago I attempted to reverse engineer joycon Bluetooth data to see what I could do with it. and I landed on an idea similar to this, but I tried to convert actual midi files into a list of frequencies. that didn’t really pan out, and you had a much better approach. when I was looking through documentation behind joycon rumble, there was a note that mentioned that there’s a specific set of bounds that you should stay in when messing with frequency unless you want to kill your motors. I’d imagine that game builder garage would prevent you from being about to do that, but I thought that was interesting.
@Indanam
2 жыл бұрын
Wow that's interesting! From memory, I think GBG lets you go up to around 1000Hz. Not sure if beyond there is the danger zone, or if even the allowed frequencies could wear down the motors if overused. However, in GBG the allowed higher frequencies don't rumble as intensely as the low frequencies. I thought it was the motor's limitation, but perhaps Nintendo programmed that into the game that to prevent people from busting their JoyCons. 🤔

I found this video highly entertaining. It made me remember when in college I learned to use the internal speaker of pc's trough C (yes, I'm that old) . You had only one but you could make very complicated music from a speaker that could just do "beep".

Reminds me of a video I saw once where a guy remade Tetris from scratch. And by scratch I mean they didn't even have a computer operating system. They wrote the whole thing in assembly. And they even added music, which is the part your comment reminded me of. He could only do beeps like that in the code, so he made the tetris theme for it
