    The scene of King Théoden reciting Tolkien's poem, "Where is the Horse and the Rider", still gives me goosebumps to this day. Bernard Hill is definitely the most underrated actor of the trilogy, perfect casting for the king of Rohan. Great work as always Lachie, remember we will follow you and this build "To Whatever End!"

  • @HerrRoehrich

    @HerrRoehrich

    Жыл бұрын

    I think he did alright with the material he was given, but tbh it was horrid casting for the character. They turned a 71-year-old man who looks and feels his age but still decides to go out in a blaze of glory to fulfill his oaths and aid his allies, into a mid-50s man in his prime who spends the better part of his screentime doubting and complaining about imagined infidelity by said allies, before doing half of what book-Théoden did before going down. No blowing on a horn so hard it bursts, no takedown of the Haradrim Chieftain, no hailing Éomer as the new king. Plus, they mangled his awesome "Arise, arise" speech by blending it with Éomer's equally awesome "Death!" and "and a red nightfall" speeches - those deserved to remain verbatim and separate. Richard Harris would have been the perfect Théoden.

  • @GarethOB_

    @GarethOB_

    Жыл бұрын

    @@HerrRoehrich Good comment, thanks. I agree that Harris would have been great for the role, especially if you're basing it off age and appearance, but I don't think age play's a factor here, as Frodo should be 50, Aragorn 87 etc. I disagree that his doubting was a negative during TTT and ultimately saved Rohan. Aragorn ,Gandalf and Gimli council the King to meet Saruman in open warfare and not retreat to the fortress of the Hornburg, which would have been the end for them all. The speeches are all awesome, but for pacing of a film it makes sense to combine elements. Otherwise the pace would be similar to BoTFA in The Hobbit, an unending amount of rallies, speeches and counter charges. Instead of a bursting horn, we get Bernard Hill (who improvised) the contact of his sword on his men's spears to lift their moral.

  • @joeltimonen8268

    @joeltimonen8268

    @@GarethOB_ I definitely agree that some things from the books had to be changed for the movies. I prefer the books in (almost) every instance but I'm nevertheless very happy that they changed some things. The speeches being combined works really well. Regarding the ages: hobbits are considered adults at 33 so being 50 doesn't correlate 1-to-1 to how we see it. Also Aragorn WAS 87 even in the movies but the reason he appears younger was mentioned (he's one of the dunedain). Regarding Theoden's doubts in TTT: in the books Theoden (and the others) rode to meet Saruman in open warfare. On the way they received news that there had been a battle at the fords of river Isen and Rohan's forces were beaten and scattered. Then, being direly outnumbered, they decided to retreat to the nearby fortress of Helm's Deep. "Retreating" to Helm's Deep as it happened in the movie makes no sense because of the relative locations of Isengard, Helm's Deep, Edoras and Dunharrow. Movie-Theoden's pettiness and odd choices detract from his character but (IMO) only very slightly. Bernard Hill definitely makes up for it with his acting.

    It'd take me weeks to muster the courage to start such a pour 😬 it's looking great though! Hope they match when they're next to each other in the end. Fittingly, my favorite part of the Two Towers is Sam's speech to Frodo while Faramir has them in Osgiliath. It just perfectly captures the message of the whole story. Such beautiful honest words coming from the simple good hearted Sam is so fitting aswell. It always leaves me tearing up 🥲

    Although the best scene in the two towers is of course the battle of Helm's Deep, my favourite scene is for sure Theodred's funeral. Hill and McKellen killing it with their performances. And maybe it is because now I am a father, but rewatching that scene now makes me cry every time.

    My favourite scene from the Two Towers is as simple as it gets. The first two minutes. The fantastic score and images of the mountains and, in the background, you faintly hear the sounds of the fight against the Balrog. It might not be the most epic scene, or with the best dialogue, but it is evocative and it puts into perspective the long journey that they did, and what's ahead. For me, an almost perfect beginning to a movie. (The perfect beginning is the Fellowship one, fite me)

"For death and glory!" "For Rohan! For your people." "The sun is rising." "Yes... yes, the Horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the Deep, ONE. LAST. TIME." "Fell deeds awake: Now for wrath! Now for ruin! And the red dawn! FORTH EORLINGAS!" Such chills.

    Best scene from the Two Towers has gotta be Saruman's Speech. Everyone always focuses on the actual battle of Helm's Deep, but the build up is superb, and the excellence of Christopher Lee's performance shines in a well shot sequence of absolute anticipation. Runners up include Aragorn slammin' that door open, Gimli and Legolas arguing about their kill numbers, and POTATOES! You know? Boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew.

    My favourite scene in the Two Towers would have to be Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli's pursuit of the Uruk Hai, there's just something about them tirelessly chasing a company of Uruk Hai that vastly outnumber them, they might not even be able to save Merry and Pippin if they caught up with the Orcs but they're gonna fight anyways. And in the Books it would have to be the Uruk Hai chapter, just seeing how different Orc clans interact with one another how the Uruk Hai bully the Goblins and how Grishnak and Ugluk butt heads over every decision.

    I think my favourite scene in the Two Towers is the one where the battle of Helm's Deep is imminent. The defenders are prepared, the Uruk-Hai are marching, the rain starts, the Uruk's start chanting and then the sudden arrow! Not to mention the comic timing of Gimli's comments on his perspective of the battlespace!

    Is it wrong that I enjoy seeing a scenery master like yourself also fail at projects 😂 Gives us all hope! Favourite scene in Two Towers? It’s the oft replicated moment as Aragorn draws his sword on the battlement, PJ cuts to the glittering caves, and the families there. Excellent filmmaking.

    Watching this pour had me on the edge of my seat with nerves for you. I don’t know why, but I was expecting it to go more wrong than just one leak, but I’m glad it only was one and not many. Luke pulling through with that lightbulb idea! My favourite scene of the two towers in extended has to be when the orc is twitching because it has Gimlis axe imbedded in its nervous system. Makes me chuckle every time

    I am a complete nut for Isengard, so my favorite scene from Two Towers is the Isengard unleashed moment. The camera panning out from Saruman to encompass the entirety of his Uruk-hai army... was completely breathtaking. I feel I was as stunned as Grima when I first saw it!

    Dude, I feel ya! I think our biggest pour was around 25 kg, it was one big area though. Always nerve wrecking... we use some kind of waxy putty to fill any leaks. I need to check for the name, its a life saver! I also like to use acrylic strips as the barrier, so its easier to see if you have a water tight seal. Looking forward to see the whole table! cheers!

    The return of Gandalf as the new White Wizard in Fangorn and the following ride to Edoras with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. Storywise, it's a real turning point for the Free Peoples of Middle Earth as the heroes group will have a huge impact on the war. The true beauty of this scene however lies in the cinematography with the amazing landscape of New Zealand as the plains of Rohan and the corresponding music theme gives me goosebumps every time!

    Outstanding job, might have wanted to put down some green flocking on the edges in the shallows before pouring for a seaweed type look. Also feels too blue to me as I figure it would have more of a green/brown tint from material in the water. But as they say, hindsight is 20/20. Also wonder if playdough or clay packed around the base after sealing would have helped hold it together. Sort of build a wood frame an inch or two out and pack with the clay before pouring. It would help stop leaking and support the sidewalls with mass.

    Favorite scene from the Two Towers...that's a tough one. Honestly, as much as I kind of dislike the reduction of Gimli to Comic relief, I honestly have to say the moment at the Sally Port of Helm's Deep between Aragon and Gimli is my favorite. "Toss me..." "What?" "I cannot jump the distance, so you have to toss me!" "..." "...don't tell the Elf..." On a tangential note, the Two Towers actually holds a special spot for me, if for an odd reason. Fellowship...I was so young when it came out that I barely remember seeing it in theaters, despite the fact we went. Have more memories of watching it at a friend's house after it had come out on DVD and trying to avoid spoiling it. Two Towers though...I was in the Boy Scouts of America (now Scouts BSA) and one of the big camping trips was the "Freezeree" in February (which is winter here). Problem I ran into was that our water froze and I couldn't find another source, so I got dehydrated and they called my parents to take me home. But, bright side is that, while my brother got to finish the camping trip, I got to go with my parents to see the Two Towers...and I actually remember watching it in theaters this time!

    That looks fantastic already. Like, it's at that point where, in my projects get to that I usually decide is "If I go any further, I will ruin it." (actually, in my projects, it's right before the resin; tbh that stuff intimidates me). You asked about Two Towers ... the bit where the elves arrive is pretty darn good.

    I always like to imagine wandering through your build, but this one? This is is full on hour long daydream material. Every last cobble has been designed with room for storytelling. It has the backing of LOTR lore of course, but the battles that could/will be fought have so much Opportunity!!!

    I think the two best scenes are both at the wall of helms deep. The first in which Legolas is asking Gimli if he needs a stool, and the second one is the old warrior starting the combat by releasing the forst arrow.
