Wow, there is no way you put that much work into it and then question whether or not you will wear it in public. The dress is awesome and the fit is impeccable.

Amen! And from scratch no help from a pre made pattern you have an absolute gift totally wear it with a navy blue three quarter sleeved blazer and a pocket square made from leftover fabric from the dress just saying and totally make a petticoat with a navy blue lace hem to fall below the hemline of this skirt to ho with it if you wish to add a little more length lol
I know it’s not all about what is flattering, but this is super flattering on your figure and you got the fit just perfect. It looks amazing .

This video epitomizes why I am such a fan of your channel and so fast! You write permission slip after permission slip for people to mess up, try crazy stuff, be silly, make mistakes, undo their work, and keep trying. Your channel is like the opposite of perfectly curated and I mean that in the best way possible. Thanks for making sewing accessible. I'm about to make my first split side, adjustable waist, giant pocket skirt thanks to you!!

I cannot believe you just whomped up a bodice pattern and it fit on the first try. 😲 That is some serious seamstress genius there.

I can't believe it either! I've tried making a similar bodice two or three more times since and it's never fit as well as that first one!
You have just given me the best idea of how to use all the leftover tulle I got from a friend's wedding. If I do it with tulle I don't have to hem it 😂.

OMG can you imagine adding tule to lengthen your dress? You would get a ton of wear from it. It's adorable now, add the tule and.....🎤 Drop!!!!
The "It was supposed to be easy but I complicated every step of the way, and is now happy about the result" is so relatable. 😂 It is the reason I start and finish so few projects because it makes even the "easy" stuff daunting. 😅
I would 100% wear this IRL, although I would have to add 90 feet of 4inch lace to the hem to get the length Id be comfortable with. You look so cute. Please go on a picnic in the dress. But also just go to get groceries or gas or whatever. You are rocking it!

I've honestly never seen a video that have given me so much "I really wonder if I can do the thing, I think I can maybe do the thing, let´s go try the thing!"- energy. Thank you! My thing is a mens shirt, but inspired by a ballgown. Think matte black sateen and organza, standing collar, puffy sleeves, fitted waist. No Idea if it will turn out, Or if I´m skilled enough. But I want to know.

WEAR THE DRESS! It's gorgeous!
I hope you've worn this dress in public. Totally understand how this would feel costume-y to wear, but it doesn't look costume-y at all, just very, very cool. It deserves to be shared with the world beyond KZread. 🙂
Funny you flashed some Liederhosen, because even before that, this dress is giving me some major dirndl vibe (which I love!). Make a little white blouse to go underneath, and an apron, and you're set for Oktoberfest!

Right?? It's ready and waiting in my closet for the day I finally go to Oktoberfest!
LOVE the dress!! In the winter you can wear tights, a turtle neck and either knee high (or dare I say, thigh high?) boots or flats. CUTE!!!
Amazing, adorable dress & fun video! Just a suggestion: you could put underlayer lining with lace or ruffles peeking out of skirt ( 1-6 inches) to lengthen skirt part without doing whole skirt hem circumference... Great job!
I am not a sewer. I helped my grandmother for years with her quilts but I was not allowed to use the machine. I took a Joann sewing class and made a very poor pair of pajama pants and I found you because my niece wants to make a dress. I helped her make a pillow a few years ago so she would know the basics of the sewing machine (and I mean basics) and she went off and made a few other projects. Shes 13 and she wants to make a dress out of 4-way stretch material. the pattern is intermediate but I feel like I could manage it but the 4-way stretch makes me want to bash my head against a wall. I have a jersey needle and stretch thread and am using a zigzag and I want to thank you for this video because I have been procrastinating the project because I dont feel like its going to work out but now I know I just need to try. We did get a half yard of the fabric extra to do some test sewing to get used to it. Anyway I love your videos and thank you for sharing your adventure. I dont see myself sewing my own clothes but this and your patchwork sure make me want to try.
That is adorable. I would definitely throw my good Australian dollars at that dress if I saw it in a shop. Well done!
It is a darling dress and YES, you must wear it in public! You will charm and fascinate everyone and they will love finding out that you made it from the ground up! Plus - it looks so great on you!! (Bet you'll be asked to make at least 1 for someone!)
I think we might be the same person 🤣 it's giving very "why do easy when can do VERY COMPLICATE" vibes and I loved every second of it! Using this video to inspire me to cut into fabric with little plan and no pattern 😅

This dress would be sooooo popular in Miami, you would sell out of a shop of these in a day. Trust me.
That is so unbelievably cute, and SO impressive. I am so inspired! Watching you wing it and kill it is amazing. (Also I have that purse in pink and didn't know it came in that indigo/lavender and am v jealous.)

Absolutely stunning dress!! I hope that you do wear it out in public and wear it frequently because it is so beautiful!
Yes, wear the dress. As an old survivor of Catholic school, part of me suggests wearing bike shorts underneath, but that is MY problem. I love circle skirts, even though I don't wear skirts anymore (my waist bands slide up my belly to under my bra. Ugh), but my granddaughters, and my friend's granddaughters do, because I sew them for these beloved girls. (And...my 5'7" daughter, and my friend's daughter and daughter-in-law, who are, thankfully, shorter than me.) You said if you have an idea, go for it, and I do. I watch tutorials, like yours and others for inspiration and technical info, but then...I do what works in my head. I made a circle skirt out of 4 fat quarters for my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter and stitched it to sparkly silver elastic; she loves it. But now, with this tutorial? I have SO many ideas for more skirts for my girls! Thank you!

I know this is an old comment, but if you do want something to wear under shorter skirts, there is an amazing company called Snag who makes tights and leggings, including little shorts called chub rubs (I think). I have their leggings in several adorable colours including pink and a pale purple/lavendar. They are amazing for wearing under skirts because I hate my legs rubbing together when it's warm and because they are in cute colours, I don't care if anyone sees them if my skirt isn't quite long enough to cover them! Snag also now make some clothes, as their focus in on sizing that will fit larger sizes, taller sizes, etc, rather than conventional clothing sizes which just seem to be sized up/down without any adjusting (ie: plus sizes are always longer!)

@@LovelyLawla Hello! I do have 3 pair of Snag tights, and I love them! No binding around my upper thighs, the panty doesn't go up to my bra like other plus-sized tights. And the price is more than fair.
Dunno about everybody else but this is arguably as complex as making a pleated skirt given how much bulk you'd have to avoid messing up at the top, and how much of a pain it is to hem curves, much less hemming them to be the exact same length all the way around.
omg, the swooshiness, i can only imagine how fun it feels. watching youtube videos, including yours, inspired me to try new things, and i made my own prom dress without a pattern, and with not so much sewing experience, fitted bodice, buterfly sleeves and two tier double circle skirt, all in around 4 days, and even tho its not perfect, i love how it came out and the experience i got out of it, and i finally have a dress that i like and that fits me... and it has pockets :). love your vids

You need to wear it to a quilt show 😃
Whoa, that dress is SO LOVELY!!!! I was mighty confused with the skirt start of the video given the thumbnail; it was really really fun seeing the scale ramp up. If I were to ever do this (which I wont) I'd have to have it go at least a palm down from the knee, which wow, I can, as you said, only imagen how much work that would be! I think this sort of project shows you have a talent for sewing and adjacent crafts. You do put in a lot of work, but still, there is a je ne sais quoi that makes your working on this first time (non professionally patterned) dress a sight to behold

i LOVE that dress! Yes, it’s definitely lederhosen-y 😄 You definitely made the right choice resewing the waistband to match a little better. It only needs to be about double that length so only half the varicose veins show on my old lady legs and I’d definitely wear that! Hell i might make one anyway, just for shits ‘n giggles!
I loved the video and the dress. Would have loved to see a full screen shot of you twirling because I feel that’s what circle skirts are for. Maybe next time?!
@gettheetothestitchery
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, thinking back, I don't remember doing any full out spins in it... next time I put it on, I'm spinning like crazy!
Please wear the dress to a DANCE. I’m thinking contra dance or square dance, both of which have lots of twirling and spinning. :) So cute!!!
UH, excuse me! That dress is seriously FABULOUS! It is one of the very best DIY's I have ever seen. Very fun, like you would say, "I am wearing this dress to dinner with my husband because he might fly me to Paris afterwards, and I need to be prepared!"
I feel like this would be an amazing way to make a petticoat
So pretty!! Also, if you haven't tried a rotary cutter, I strongly suggest you give it a go! It makes cutting straight lines *so* much easier and faster; I usually stack 4-6 layers of fabric together and cut them at once. I found a long Omnigrid-style ruler with a lip at the end at a used shop and it has CHANGED MY LIFE when cutting strips of binding for quilts, or straightening out the edges of blocks before I combine them. The key is to *lean heavily* on the ruler so it can't slip; that's where the lip on the end of my 22" ruler comes in handy by anchoring it to the far end of the cutting mat. If you _have_ tried rotary cutters and determined that they're not for you, no worries! I just like to promote them because they're made such a difference in my sewing.
This is one of the prettiest dresses ever! I'm not a dress person, but I would wear this. 😍🤩
I was watching this video and I thought "wow this lady is completely cra-" then I glanced at my own project, already promising a good 50+ hours of hand sewing. So no, actually she's completely reasonable, just like me! Congrats on the amazing projects!
I used a wedge ruler (quilting) to make circle skirts for my nieces, used offcuts of all my favorite fabrics - elasticated the waists with adjustable elastic and they loved them, wore them until they didn’t fit anymore. The oldest girls went down to youngest before it was retired. 😂 really easy lovely skirts
I would love to have the pattern to that top piece! That turned out so cute

i am sooooo excited to try this!!! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SKIRT THAT IS TOO BIG!! another foot would make it ankle length for me cause i'm short. second hand sheets are a great source of fabric. i need a renaissance dress!! 😁😁😁😁😁

This is amazing & makes me want to use this idea for a skirt but i want to make the full length version. It will have to wait for me to get the fabric
This is such a comfort video for me, I keep coming back to watch it again
I am freakin IN LOVE with that dress! It turned out so amazing and I got to explain multi circle skirts to my boyfriend
I love it. It's like it's own petticoat
That dress is insanely cute ❤️ 👄 ❤️
This dress is *so* pretty! You should totally wear it irl, it's so dang cute! I don't wear dresses much, but I want to do this dress with about half of the circles and make it calf length, lol.
You must wear this to a garden wedding!
This is the cutest most ridiculous thing ever. I love it and I need one in my size!
It looks SO fabulous on you! You really must wear it out in public -- often. It is THAT good. I'm jealous. If I wasn't in my 60s I'd want one myself. Love it!
My goodness, what a beautiful dress. I feel like I need to make one of my own. Plus it's not a circus dress, but a boho folk dress.
Your coffee cup is my favorite character in this video 😄
Oh my gosh you look so adorable in this dress and to think it was done with fat quarters. Truly amazing.
The dress is gorgeous and has so much swoosh! Great job!
So cute! My grandaughter called them “twirly dresses”!
That was 1000+ inches of worth it! It’s adorable, and I would have worn that readily in my 20s and 30s. Then again, I’m covered in tattoos, and have bright red hair (I’ve had bright colored hair most of my life). Also, your dog is adorable. I would watch just for the dog, but your projects are just as awesome.
Somebody get Lovely Lor in here!! This dress is giving clown-Lolita in the *best* way possible!
“Debated how much I cared” I feel this sewing energy so much 😅 Just did not this much seam ripping with a nursing maxi dress and it was still a lot!
You look amazing in it. A perfect summer dress.
Loved it and the colors, wow, beautiful. It was wonderful to see and hear that you did this all by yourself. No ready sewn pattern. Fantastic!
This video inspired me to make a ten circle petticoat out of 20 half-yard remnants of off-white lightweight linen. I just started it and I know it’ll take me a long time, but I’m so excited!
Really enjoy your sewing projects . So funny when you laid thr circle on the floor.
Its only one unique peice in the world just for you❤
The quest for the ultimate swoosh 😍
I would never ever have this much patience 😑 you did awesome!!
My first thought with this dress was the old Clamp anime skirts, MOUNTAINS OF RUFFLES! amazing
Платье просто класс!Очень люблю такие пышные юбки. И сочетание цветов фантастика!Вы бльшая умница!
Watching this I think anybody who does patchwork should be encouraged to invest in an industrial straight stitch machine. I resently started working on one. So much faster and simpler.
It's so cute and pretty ! Also I love that whole winging it energy : no plan, no pattern, make it as you go. Love it !
Perfect! Project Runway worthy!! I would be wearing this everyday!
Love the twin buns in your hair.
AWESOME !!! OMG That looked like such fun 😘You made me laugh so much thank you 🥰Well done it looked so cute as well 🤩Thanks for sharing 😍
It’s adorable. Making the bodice from the combined fabrics was a great decision.
Great project and what a fabulous accomplishment.
YES! YOU CAN!wear it ,because it's elegant and gorgeous and makes you So beautiful .Stay well ,you've made a piece of fashion style.
Might I suggest if you want to do a longer version in an affordable way, to scope out thrift stores for the faux silk non-sheer sheers and drapery scarves. (Burgundy and gold seem to be ever popular). It’s how I get the majority of my fabric these days for less than $3 a yard.

It's amazing!!! 🤩 The colour palate is glorious 😍 I have been deliberating on what I might make from the masses of scraps I've kept from all my me-mades - I was thinking along the lines of tote bags or cushion covers - so the idea of piecing fabrics together to create a GARMENT really blew my mind! In a good way 😊 Thanks for the inspiration 🙏
