    I have one knit dress that’s a very stretchy 4-way knit and the pockets sag when I put anything in them. I went back in and straight stitched some twill tape to the side seams down to the pocket area and now it doesn’t sag. Woot!

    Your hems end up different lengths because the sewing machine foot is slightly gathering the bottom with the back down. I recommend getting a roller foot that sends both the top and the bottom fabric at the same speed it's used mainly for vertical front seems, darts anywhere where you do not want gathering. Just remember sewing machine feet aside from the walking foot and the rolling put cause the bottom fabric to gather even very so slightly.❤

    My mom has a pattern like that. It was a halter neck with a racer back. It's from the 70s, and she still uses it. Now, mostly bathing suit coverup/super easy summer dress. But she also used it to make my 8th grade graduation dress out of a leopard velveteen (it was '97). She still has the dress. She throws it on to run to the store or just relax around the house. (I went up a size and got boobs, so the chesr got too tight. *Sigh. It was really comfy.)

    A slip will eliminate much of your see-through situation and allow your dresses to hang even better. Many dresses are improved with a slip under them. Try it and see if you agree. There are basic slips and also specialty slips. Also, a slip under your full petticoat will keep your legs from being scratched or you can even line it with something smooth.

  • @myinnermagpie

    @myinnermagpie

    Жыл бұрын

    Slips are great. If you have one that is comfortable and weighty enough you’ll wear it for sure. They make your dresses and skirts skim over your body. Best of all, if you’ve been sitting down and then get up while finding that your clothes are sticking to the back your leg; it will be your slip and not your dress.

    Nice experiment. You might find investing in a walking foot will help with sewing jersey materials on your machine. It will help feed the fabric top and bottom layer together and stop the bottom layer creeping up and ending up shorter than the top layer. The walking foot will also be helpful for the same reason if you ever dive into quilting! I only learnt about the uses of a walking foot after I had sewed and quilted my first baby quilt for a friend and had a “difficult” time with the quilting. You live and you learn 😊

    Hi there, Thank you for being so real in your videos and leaving in the mistakes that get made so we can learn with you and from your experiences. I am trying to make this dress for the first time and I am running into obstacles; so I'm wondering if it you are able to show us a detailed explanation of how to work the sleeves and the neckline as the pattern instructions are not very forthcoming (or maybe I am just that inexperienced) because after attaching the neckline to the dress I some how wound up with a stunted turtleneck instead of a nice neat close to the border neckline. Hopefully you see this comment considering it is being put on an old video and you are willing/able to film this request without incurring copyright zingers. Keep up the good work, "Necklines are weird".

    nice well done, a variation you didnt do, putting triangles of fabric in the skirt part to get extra flair

    Yes, godets, possibly in a contrasting color, could be great!

    I think dress four would have been even better if you had done a v-neck bound in the cream instead of the mock-neck but that’s just me but all in all i once again love it all lol After reading some of the comments, i had a thought… how about a version of the swooshy blue one with a knee or tea length hemline? Maybe some accent fabric for the gussets and sleeves? Also, for the long hemline, a single side-slit in between a princess-seam and a gusset would look stunning!
