I loved the idea of destashify when I first learned about it, but then I read the fine print about the shipping. That $5 flat rate that is so great for the buyer means the seller only gets $5 toward the shipping price, which they then have to pay the rest out of pocket on. There is no discounted shipping or automatic labels like other reselling sites provide to their sellers, so if you're selling a heavy piece and only get $5 for the shipping you could literally lose money on the whole transaction if you dont price your fabric up to compensate for that shipping cost, which then makes your prices higher and people are less likely to purchase from you. If they could get a flat shipping rate like the other reselling platforms do, I would be all over it for selling things. It just felt very shady to advertise the $5 shipping but then find out that you as the seller are paying for the rest of matter what.

Yeah, nice for buyers, bad for sellers. and they keep $1 plus 15% per item you sell. You do all the work on their platform and they keep your profit. 'm not a good photographer and already have a full-time job. I don't have time to run to the post office every time something sells, you have 1-3 days to ship and must pay for priority shipping, insurance, shipping supplies, labels, and tracking info. Nope, sellers aren't making any money on this, are they?

That explains the seemingly high prices like a $12 listing for a lot of three skeins of Dollar Tree yarn.

They do recommend that sellers price items to account for the rest of the shipping. And they steer you to a shipping app that gives discounts (Pirate ship). As a seller, where you get hit harder is if you list say 3 different things and one buyer picks them all, they still only pay the $5 shipping but you have a heavier package to ship for only $5 instead of $15. I use shipping easy, and mostly I can stuff a few pieces in a big mailing envelope. I'm probably only making a few dollars per sale. But I figure at least I'm (slowly) making a bit of space. And also I'm getting money for fabric I bought years ago so it kind of seems "free". Basically, it's better to be on the buying end!😊

Your sister is one very talented young lady, I just love how she has just jumped in at the deep end, sink or swim and just gone for it❤️❤️she reminded me so much of me Mom who use to teach dressmaking years ago, she always told her students that there was no such thing as a mistake, just a lesson on how something is not done. 😹😹😹

Thank you!, so much for introducing me to Destashify. I have hoard of fabric and notions that I have needed to thin out for a very long time but never really had any sustainable options to re-home them. Now I can let them go knowing that they will be going to someone who will be using them rather than the landfill.

I subscribed to “Carrie Me Away”. I love DIY and so far I really like your family.😊 I love your pocket plan for the dress. Also really appreciate your plan for the blue pierced fabric. Final verdict-very cute dress. The pocket idea was brilliant and unique. It did not need to be reversible for that to be a good idea and even better I love patch pockets but they don’t always work with the fabric/style. I don’t love floppy side seam pockets on the inside of a dress and I think this was a really nice way to do it. If I have a pocket on the side seam, I want it to be anchored into a waist seam. I have gotten my own pattern to do that now but I love that your pocket is really a great answer for stretch fabric. I like that it is firmly attached and usable. I also love that it is made with use of gores which I love because you can make your dresses swishier with gores. I wish my brain worked like yours.

Agreed. I've checked the website before and thought it seemed pointless. Add 20 shipping and it's cheaper new. So I'd be paying extra to not be able to examine the fabric or choose my length. I love the idea but I don't understand how they have customers with their current model, even in the US. Threadify was equally unappealing to me for the same reasons.

Oh! A note about neck bindings! You want to have your neck binding about 80% the length of the neck hole, I found 80% is usually the sweet spot, sometimes 90% works but I find it’s much too lose. Also, stretching VERY gently near the shoulder seams will help it lay nicer

When sewing stretchy ruffles to stretchy fabric, a lightweight interfacing can save you the hair-pulling you experienced. Use the interfacing tape, and sew it on the ruffle as you zigzag over your gathering string. Then sew tape around the bottom of the piece you’re sewing onto. You will love the clean look, and the functionality of it!

My friend’s mother passed away a couple of years ago. She had quite a fabric stash. I offered to ferry it to those in need. Arg. My aunt is part of a church that makes quilts for the homeless. I did need to go through it, because it was not all quilting fabric, and the church does not need that headache. It was a real test, let me tell you! I did donate 95% of it. There are a few things that are cut out, stuffed animals and backpacks and such. I am still seeking someone who might would use them.

Something that has helped me with bias binding (other than cutting it on the bias, yes I in fact neglected to do that the first few times) is ironing it into a curve that's just a tad smaller than needed. I like very thin fabric since I live in a tropical place, but I am not sure how well that will translate to thicker fabric like a mid weight or heavier jersey. Hope this helps at least one person, were learning on our own but together!

Those fabrics are lovely. And that dress looks like so much fun! Note on tracing from a garment: nab a pile of old boxes (or one of those cardboard cutting boards) and some cheap pins. use the boxes as a base, then stab straight through the garment into the cardboard. the stabbing into cardboard is why you use cheap pins. if you put paper between the garment and the cardboard you can stab pins in a pattern that'll let you connect the dots. Hopefully that helps.

If you actually do ruin something, it is not the end of the world. I learned that the hard way. You got to learn when to quit trying. Cut all the seams out, any holes or marks before running an iron over it and putting it back in the stash. Okay, maybe into a special box for smaller projects or the scraps basket. If you have tons of scrap/small pieces, bag them up and sell/give them to people who do little sewing, like dolls clothes, doll houses or even small pet clothes. I know it tears at your soul to think of virgin fabric going to waste. I'm the same. I think a lot of sewists identify. Life is too short to make things that you really won't use, just to use up scraps when someone else will use it for something they want or need. I love your channel by the way. You are one heck of an instinctive sewer, like me. Edit: I adore the turquoise stripe walk away dress. It's so flattering. You look extra gorgeous in it. Edit 2: give the cute boy some pets from me. My heart breaks into a million pieces because I don't think Destashify actually ships to Poland. My wallet on the other hand rejoices 😅 (who am I kidding, my fabric stash is 90% things I found on Vinted, so it's not like I'm careful with my money 😂)

If I purchased from 6 different sellers, as you did, then I'll be paying $120 just for postage. Yikes. Unless they are all from the same seller, I feel Destashify isn't really for me here in the UK. Hopefully they'll expand and have more options in the UK in the future.

My daughter also has an “Austracorg” (as I call her), but she’s a teensy version of your good boi, less than 20 pounds. She’s fond of annoying every other animal she meets. My cat hates her. 😂 I love watching your creative process! I also struggle sometimes. Like this morning. I’m thinking you need to make your neckbands 20% shorter than your neckline measurement to prevent gaping.

Let me see if i can write this tip in a way that makes sense. To install a ruffle : Using pins, safety pins or notches, divide the top seam of the lower tier in half, then quarters then eighths. Then do the same to the bottom of the tier you are sewing it to. Now you know how much ruffle has to fit between each notch or pin. Hope that helps.

I wish I knew about this 3 years ago when I had to get rid of most of my moms stash. She has GORGEOUS fabric and notions but I just didn’t have the space and no one I know sews so I had to donate it but it probably went in the trash.

This dress is sooo adorable! And thanks so much for the share of destashify! This could get a lot more dangerous for me fabric wise😂 but if I get myself in gear I can sell on my unwanted stuff to fellow crafters which is the best possible outcome versus it ending up in the bin then landfill like other people on here have said! So thats a win win! Always love watching your creative style flow, you are as entertaining as you are skilled at creating! Bless you my lovely you are a ray of sunshine Xx🙂🥰

I love the idea of destashify, i hope people use it more often. I don’t sew, but I crochet, and if I had the extra money to spend I would totally just buy my yarn from there, but I can’t because from what I’ve seen it’s almost all overpriced. Hopefully the bigger it gets, the more it’s taken seriously as a way to get rid of your stash for cheap.

I'm thinking you have just entered the growing list of bad influences on the internet! LOL this such a great idea and I'm very glad that it's growing. Too many lovely fabrics end up in landfills. There's should be more ways to stop this. I'm supposed to be stash busting and doing perp for a dream coat out of a lovely but expensive fabric. I want to have the pattern and things nailed down before I spend a small fortune on a heavy wool!
