I have to disagree with the things you said about noise. For me personally the noise is always the most important part after performance and I always try to run my components as quietly as possible without running in the temp limit as I usually render stuff over night with my PC in the same room. Also saying that the GPU noise is irrelevant because you wont be able to hear the gpu in the system because other components are louder anyways doesnt make sense to me. It would be interesting if you couldve shown us some data so the viewers could see how much quieter the card actually is. But ofc its highly unlikely that the gap would be high enough to justify this ridiculous price in any way. Other than that I agree with the things you said and poined out, I especially like that the videos are focused on creative applications which is really useful and something I havent seen on KZread so far ;)

Nah, the real reason why Noctua is doing the 4080 is because the 4090 has some hardware issues (melting connectors for example) and Noctua needs to keep thier reputation in order for them to keep their prices up. Now you might ask, Nvidia needs to keep their reputation too, they are bigger then Noctua isnt it? Well, they actually blame users for the melting connectors issues, so... yeah.

I think the ambient temperature might make a bigger difference here. I'm trying to say, at higher ambient temperatures the noise level might be exponentially higher for other cards. No numbers were given for the noise tests? I mean, it might not matter to you but it matters to people who wants to buy it? From where I am the ambient is usually >33 Degree Celsius. Higher ambient temperature might also cause the card to perform differently with the tests carried out. Also not mentioning the longevity of the cards running at higher temperatures throughout the life of the card. But does it justify the price? Need to see the numbers.

For anything Audio the Noctua still has purpose. I’ve owned the Tuf card, it’s like hearing a fighter jet take off. Impossible to record with and mine also developed coil wine. What these review don’t show or explain is how noisey they become as they wear in. Still a very informative review.

  • @ArtemDzhadzha

It's a very smart marketing move. If you release Noctua 4090 right away as the only option, you'll have some sales, of course, but not much. 4090 is expensive. If you release 4080 first, you get some sales, you boost buyers' interest, you heat up the market, and then at the peak of selling 4080 and at the peak of people demanding 4090, you release Noctua 4090 (maybe with 3 fans to look more aggressive), and you win! You get sales of both 4080 and 4090. Double profit. I'm pretty sure Noctua already has 4090 prototype and only waits for the most proficient time.

@@theTechNotice Fans of higher-end CPU coolers would need to run at 1000 to 1200 rpm max, same goes for case fans, PSUs usually run almost silent, if not completely when overspec'd. GPU fans are usually smaller and run faster than CPU- or case fans and are therefore louder. 1500 to 2000 rpm would be normal for GPUs.

Having bought the Zotac 4090 AMP Extreme Airo, it is among the best cards when it comes to coil whine, it is whisper quiet. Cooling is also excellent but my god the fans are terrible. 9:35 I guess I'm the exception to this statement. I recently built a new PC. I'm using open back headphones, which means I don't block out much noise from my PC. The i5 13600 cpu is air cooled with a Noctua NH-D15S, and I can't really hear the fans until they get past 60%+ speed, which is pretty much never. My GPU is a PNY 4070ti, known for very low noise levels compared to similar air cooled cards, which was the main reason I got it. However, when I'm gaming the only thing I actually hear are the fans on my GPU ramping up and down. Basically, my system overall is more or less quiet except for the GPU when it's under load. My previous card was a 1080 hybrid card, so I guess I have been spoiled by low noise levels. So in my case it makes a lot of sense to get something like the Noctua card, unless I go for another hybrid card again.

I don't know how your build your systems, but in mine, the GPU under load is usually the loudest part of mine. My power supply, HX1200's fan never comes on. My PA120 heat sink fans cooling a 5950x, Silent Wings 4 and T30 run at 850rpm when under full load, inaudible from 1m away. The case fans run at 500rpm for the 180mm fans, also inaudible, even late at night. Keeps the CPU and GPU at +46c degrees delta, when stress tested. You don't have much choice in what fans can go on the GPU, you can only control their RPM with MSI afterburner. So if they are quiet, then even better

I wonder if the cold plate is large enough to cover the 4090 die. Would be interesting to see how the noctua cooler, fans and shroud fare on the 4090. No it's not at all practical to buy both a 4080 and a 4090 to do this, but the idea is something I had thought about with the noctua 3080, which legitimately could make a marked improvement in cooling which possibly could result in higher overall clock speeds.

If you're buying a Noctua card it's likely you already have all Noctua fans in your system and in that sense it may make sense noise wise however I'm gonna save my cash for a Noctua 4090 and hope it comes in under 2 grand.

This review was a total miss. The whole point is a whisper quiet cooling system. I'd gladly pay the premium for the silent operation under max load. I'm a VFX artist who works from home. To be able to work with no headphones, no active noise cancelation, with the system running at 100% is a godsend. Especially running 10-20 hour renders on the GPU, with no noticable noise. The loudest thing in my flat when redering is my breathing. I don't mind overpaying for the cooling, if the system is quiet. And that's the whole point of the GPU. Plus, it's so much more simpler, and not to mention cheaper, than running water cooling.

It's a vanity card purchase, why do you buy it? Because a person can at that price, it allows them to show off their GPU Flex. As was said in the video, at the Noctua 4080 price, you can buy 4090 card, that's what I would do, instead of buying a way overpriced 4080 card, even if it's a Noctua edition.

And I assume you could invert the fan direction for exhaust - sometimes in SFF cases this is preferable to intake, to avoid a hotbox case slowcooking the CPU/PSU.

2:15 - you claim that the Amp Extreme Aero has the highest clockspeed under load, yet you show only advertised clockspeeds? Why? 8:40 - "is the noctua better"? well without comparing the RPM and noise that is a meaningless statement - just crank up the fans to 100% and it is "better". But what counts is how noisy it is for a given cooling performance, or for the extreme - how high it can ramp up and cool at max capacity. The "is it quieter" is the same thing - useless. You need both. Also no, in general the GPU is the loudest part - if not than you did something SERIOUSLY wrong. Case-fans are plenty and only need to provide a bit of nearly unrestricted airflow. And the CPU in general needs far less power and has a better placement for cooling. And then the price - that really is regional. Here it is ~1230€ for the lowest 4080s, 1330€ for the noctua version, and most 4080s are in the range of 1300€. So not much of a difference

so basically you used TUF as your control group even knowing the driver versions were mismatched - and thenyou go about justifying eventual deltas in results based on this, when convenient... I think you should have just saved yourself the embarassment and retest before even making this video... just a constructive feedback; in the end I agree the Noctua card isn't worth the price bump since it gets into 4090 price territory, which provides much better performance. And the idea of a 4090 Noctua, perhaps with 3 coolers (ok it would be huge), would actually make way more sense, as you said :)

I can't understand why you are comparing the TUF (with old driver) to cards with newwer drivers, retest or are you lazy?? how about testing them with the same driver and not having such a clickbait title?? seems like BS to me if you can't do that. Do you mean older BIOS? I don't get your test scenario.
