To me what made the head scary was that the video had a comedic overtone to it so I wasn’t expecting something actually scary to show up in the tunnel, I thought it was gonna be a gag or something.

Certain creepy things just stick with me. Like this head, or dark halls with the lights out near the end... Gore / jump scares / killers don’t creep me out. It’s the unseen that is truly frightening. If the director is brave enough to show the monster, even creepier! Edit: it doesn’t help that there is a ball shaped lamp hanging from the ceiling in my room that, when off, looks like the head in the dark.

Actually melanin is a very common answer to that, some black people have melanin located in the eye tissues, which causes yellowish eyes.
