Aaaa what a relief, i don't need to hate myself anymore for not being good at some things. I thought I just wasn't trying hard enough. The testimonies are so helpful too! Imagine if Jon Piper became a doctor how much amazing Biblical teaching the world would be missing! So glad he found the right fit and was able to let the medicine plan go.

One thing worth noting. I’m only 23. I graduated college two years ago. I was good at nothing, as I suspect most people my age are. I started the job I studied for. It was hard. I never thought I would be good at it. I hated it because it was so hard. However, a lot of people advised me to stick with it, including my boss. He said in his experience people straight out of college take two years to figure it out. Well, two years later, I am glad I did not quit. I enjoy this field more and understand it better. So my advice to younger folks is this: You will inevitably struggle starting a career, unless you had exposure to the vocation from a young age. So stick with it for some time at least.

Thank you. I’ve been dealing with this issue for two years now. It has effected the confidence and trust from other employees when I know I’m so much greater than my results. After all my efforts, I have to accept that I’m not so great in this area, at least not now in this season of growth.

I feel the exact same way! I have a job where I love one aspect of my role, but I am not good at others. I spoke to my supervisor who reassured me it would take time to learn and grow in my role. Fortunately, my employer has training, and I was surprised that at the last training there were dozens of people learning the same things I was. I think if you love some things about your work then you can learn the other aspects of the work that you know less well or aren't very good at.

The only thing about this message I'm not seeing is that when you start something new you will be bad at it, but in time you can improve and even become amazing at that something. The question I have is how long should you work at improving something before it is clear that God is leading you somewhere else?

Good point. I think it depends what it is. But for example I’m on a new job. If in 3 months I’m still not picking it up with some serious competency I would say it’s time to reconsider, but you always have to give credence to how well you are being trained. If training is spotty you’d have to add more grace on that timeline.

I'd like to point out though that they succeeded in their roles because God empowered them. They did not start of competent, but in the end did objectively well due to the grace of God.

Just that I don't think John Piper is saying you should only pursue things you are good at naturally. There is a time for special calling. But the fruit of your work will tell you whether you were correct in thinking God placed you there. - this is speaking from the perspective that it was unclear whether you were agreeing with the video or not.

I’ve been working at a inner city ministry for the last 3 years. It is a church/outreach. I preach and help supervise the community during our drop in times. We often have conflict verbally and sometimes physical between the community members. My job during this time is to help resolve conflict and enforce rules. It is not my favourite thing to do to stop fights and that. I am good at it but find it draining and don’t feel I’m using my teaching and pastoral gifts for their ful potential. Any advice?

What if I am genuinely not good at anything? Everything I've ever done I've always been at the bottom. I am actually used to failing. The things I am good at is very mediocre work compared to most others that I still end up in the bottom. I'm not sure if there's other's out there like me. I've never really succeeded at anything I put my mind to no matter how bad I wanted it or desperately tried. Any advice for me?

Moses wasn't objectively fit for the work God told him to do. Also, when talking about the various parts of the body, Paul was talking about the body of the church and that we all have different ministries. The video talked about ministries. Then jumped to jobs. They may or may not be able to the same. Also, no mention of spending time with God in prayer and asking for confirmation. I understand what is being taught. But we also need to understand both God's providence AND will.

The way you commented on this video is just laughable, nobody here will actually listen to what you have to say if you keep presenting it that way.
