Mine was back when I was trying on wrist bands and hair bands back in elementary, I thought that not many would have it, since most kinds of kids were obsessed being friends with someone whose popular and getting their style instead, but I was wrong including the cute decor hand clips that were colorful, when I got out of elementary and I got into 6th grade, outside of school someone wore the same old shit I used to have and some hair clips with a hair band, maybe a student I saw when I was in class back in elementary wore a wrist band to class, So yes call me basic, But basic With fashionable sense 💕

Its weird because you cant be "basic" or "boring" but the second somebody starts to actually dress act and do things out of the norm and truly starts to express their creativity they arent called "quirky" or "interesting" most of the time these people are bullied and made fun of. Its like there is this weird level of "quirkiness" you have to be and you cant be too much or too little, its very suffocating!

@@t.o903 No she already got crap before that… People were calling her „satanic“ and „mentally ill“ because she stopped adhering to the male gaze. It‘s all because she cut her hair short and wore less to no makeup more often and less feminine clothes. And because she got some new tattoos and was exploring a more goth/alt style. Girls missed the „old“ girly Doja which was really just her pop persona and men were complaining about how they couldn‘t jerk off to her anymore. It‘s so sick how „fans“ only liked her for how she used to look

@@t.o903 Also real fans know that Doja loves trolling and has done so for years. Alot of the stuff she has tweeted in the last months wasn‘t that deep or serious. Her past interviews or tearful reactions to accolades show that she did have some emotional attachment to her music and pride in it. But she‘s tired of it now and feeling suffocated by that old image and sound that she now wants to change. Can we blame her for lashing out at fans and calling her own music a cash grab, when 90% of basic pop music and artists are literally the same?

Also when people are scrutinizing every little thing you wear use or do it's easy to find intersections in what we use and do. As a creative director and someone also building a KZread channel, I live by the motto of Great artist steal. Most of the films we love are heavily inspired or steal from the films that inspired them, songs are sampled to make other amazing songs everyday, in art and fashion styles are influenced and inspired constantly to further the art. That doesn’t make any of them any less valid. We have so many platforms to draw inspiration from and add our own spins accordingly. No one steals the same, that’s THE BEAUTY OF CREATIVITY AND INDIVIDUALITY! I’m constantly inspired by other content creators on KZread for my channel and In my career as a Creative Director so I think originality and creativity lies in what you do with the idea 😌

I agreee with you, I studied art history and when you know where to look you find copies over copies, great artists learn by copying and then changing the amount of what is copied and what's your own ideas or how you mix things. BUT if you're an lazy ass just using someone else's work as your own or copying so closely that it's actually theft I'm not okay with it. A great artist know how to copy well, so nobody can tell it's not their idea.

Naah I don't support that. Often the original creators don't have the same platform to receive recognition of their works. People we coin as creators of something we're never the originals. And as someone in the creative space it could be disheartening. And to have your creative work heavily lifted without any effort... Some people are just trying to be famous for the fame of it they'll steal content and have no qualms about it. Everyone wants to be credited for their works

@@LovelyLittleLillies i respect your disagreement. Maybe you took my take in a literal sense. But I feel like we’re all here to inspire one another. I’m not talking about ripping someone off and putting you’re name on it. It’s creating with the inspiration from someone else and using a multitude of inspirations to create ya own. Art is meant to speak to folks and good art coveys action in others so if a photo sparks someone to make a film and they heavily lean on that photo (while giving credit) then i think that’s a beauty thing.

I don’t know how to explain this totally right but I’m gonna try. As a person who suspects of oneself to be on the autism spectrum, it’s been all my life to be “basic” to fit, and have tried all my life to do what other people do, failing many times because of being “weird” …”a freak”… and other people have made me feel bad because of not being “normal”. So it’s a bit upsetting to see other people romanticizing the “not like other girls” just to the perfect amount that people find you amusing… because when you are truly too much of a different thing… they hate you and reject you. Just know as an adult I have find a group of people who truly appreciate me, but even then I don’t talk about all my “special interest” because they will think poorly of me. Although it’s totally fine for me to like “basic” things… they are popular for a reason so maybe we can get something useful from those things. I don’t know if I made any sense but those are my two cents… I expect I won’t offend anyone, I’m sorry if I do, this is just my opinion and as an old teacher said “my world it’s not the world”. Thanks for all the informative videooooos!!! They are so fun to watch !! How do you make your research? Could you teach us? Because I would like to be better at research skills)

@@fellowhuman7085especially in the formative years, when most kids either have no empathy or underdeveloped empathy, and a pack mentality is the norm. Thinking back on it now, everyone else was just naturally able to fall in line without necessarily actively thinking about it, or didn't care/bother to conform. I was also very sensitive, so a look could make me cry, but my concentrated and deliberate but failed efforts to identify the things that bothered the other girls and some boys, when I really started to notice it, were like a toddler drawing a portrait like an adult that is an experienced artist. It probably seemed even weirder because I would go through periods of withdrawal from all my peers, when the constant rejection, subtle or not, became too emotionally painful to endure. The loneliness would set in, and I would begin another sad attempt of working for approval. I still remember my first day transferring into 4th grade and forcing my timid self to walk up to the group of girls from class and asking "can I play with you guys?", my first faux pas due to lack of prior unilateral rejections, the eye rolls, exchange of glances, immediate shift in the previously lively atmosphere, the scoffed "we're not playing", and the next 5 minutes of me not getting the social cues and asking why some of the girls are running off any time I tried to join the conversation until one said "it's because you're here", and sure enough, the satellite groups merged back into one big happy party of innocent 10 year old girls as soon as I left to sit by the schoolyard's door, waiting for the bell. 😅 It doesn't sting anymore when I think back on the memory, but it did for over a decade before I stopped feeling a strong desire to connect with others and the pain of any semblance of rejection, which, to me at the time, was like a stab to the heart and a kick to the stomach, internally I was silently responding to the looks of disgust or laughter behind my back with 'I apologize for needing to adhere to the teacher's requirements, I'm just doing this for my grade, I know we both don't want to be here right now, just tolerate me for two seconds and I'll get out of your face'. Now, I am fulfilled with the family I have and my sprinkle of friends that were socially inclined but were somehow happy to have my company and sought me out. I was bullied my whole life for my style. My bullies dated the guys RIGHT after I dated them. Like no cap. And my bullies went so far as to get the same tattoo placements as me. I have blocked them all from my life. I see I was inspiring to them. But what upsets me is them saying they were the ones who did it first…. I just don’t care at this time of my life. I let them bullies live their life and I moved across the country so they couldn’t follow, date, see the same friends (that made all of them hate me…) everything. I am not joking. I want to spill her name so badly but I know that’s not right. Ugh. I think I’ve let this go lmaoooo 😅

Totally believe you because I had a friend growing up who's always been stunning, but somehow in her school there'd be bullies doing random mean girl stuff like this... And from an outsiders perspective, I just find it AMAZING that anyone would have such an empty life (met alone a group of people) than they'd pay attention to everything a person does and look for ways to mock it? Joke's on them, that's jealousy in disguise

In my humble opinion, I agree that everyone is inspired by others and that is really something I like to do, and I’m pretty sure that, just like you said, everyone does. I’m actually not ashamed of it, as… that’s kind of how society works, BUT TO ME, there is a difference between being inspired by your channel for example, and making videos about topics I’m interested in; opposite to copying someone and suddenly: wearing the same hair colour as you, copying your video editing style, typography, even topics and giving basically the same opinion and thoughts you did, and the way you move your hands when you’re explaining something, the lighting, fill my instagram feed with similar photos, with similar poses and similar outfits that resemble you. Never did I even do that with my older sisters, of course I copied them… only not to the extent that I wanted to actually BE them. Not specifically speaking of Hayley Bieber because like you said, people can definitely be inspired and selena gomez is a very inspirational person but, I get where people think hayley crossed the line, and I think you simplified it a little bit too much. You’re obviously right but at the same time, it’s just too weird, whether it’s a propaganda orchestrated by them both, or just one of them or she really is obsessed, something’s off.

one of the thing that gets my blood boiling with people who try so hard to be different, it's when we actually are different, like alternative styles, listening to unknown music or liking a specific weird kind of art, we're just in the "weird" case and nobody wants to talk to us or interact with us, except people who understand us. People want to be the right kind of "different" and that's sad, just be yourselves it's much better. As for "stealing" other people's fashion or manierism or personality traits, it's just life ? Like if several of you're friends talk a certain way you're likely going to talk like that as well.

I think the reason behind why being unique seems more appetizing is because it shows confidence Expressing true confidence in places you don’t belong appeals to others It’s bc it shows someone genuine Yet… with applying the most basic standards many people try too hard to stay away from Making efforts to fit in can show fake confidence no matter how unique you make yourself It doesn’t work the same 😂

The way I was low-key offended when you said that citizen kane is just an artistic film took me by surprise. I never watched old artsy movies until last year, because "I watch movies that I like and the old ones are not for me" kind of like you not listening to Taylor Swift because it's basic, I didn’t watch those because I didn’t want to be the quirky different one. Then I had a history and critic of cinema exam at my university and watched that movie. Although not my favourite movie, in the sense it's not a very rewatchable movie for my taste, is such a good movie that expands cinematic techniques like no others. Truly the best movie in the history of cinema, but I find it not the most entertaining

12:10 THIS!! IDK how to express my thoughts and emotions but that one line made my eyes water. Ever since I was a child I always believed in "Be Unique". Sometimes to be unique I forget what I like and what I dislike. Right now, I am in my mid-teen years and I am struggling with my confidence. Sometimes I also felt like I need to be unique and different in whatever I do, to chase my dreams and ambitions. Like, I love doing art but when I found out most of the people also do a better job in arts in my class I felt bad and sometimes I was even jealous. I am a person who loves doing multiple things. Sometimes I even forced myself to like some activities so I can be different, and unique and also fit in/relate to what others do. But I was never passionate about those things I forced myself to do. Even though RN I enjoy all things, I am still struggling to do something just by enjoying it. I also want to thank Zoe. Her ways of thinking always allow me to expand my ways. It allows me to see things differently than just believing one person's POV.

Its to empower yourself and keep going until you find people that you fit in with. Society does deem people weird, its a thing which i feel like isnt discussed at all in this video. At that point you can accept who you are and change or you can embrace the fact that others dislikw your weirdness and stay true to yourself.

There was an article I read, years ago now that talked about how misogynistic the term "basic" had evolved to be because it targeted girls/women liking the things that are marketed to them! It's kind of wild when you think about it like that. There's also a great College Humor video from years ago they did about how "frappes are amazing and Christmas lights are cozy! of course you want them!" Like I'll throw the insult at my husband, but it's more as a reference to The Good Place than the actual meaning of it. I don't really care about celebrity drama anymore, I spent a large portion of my life engrossed (I was always around alllllll of the gossip magazines) and it just isn't interesting to me anymore because everyone is terrible now lol. But I did think it the similarities was interesting, but it was also under a microscope, so of course it's going to seem more extreme. People probably latch onto the conspiracy of it because of who the ex is.
