    If you're concerned about that one board being soft you could drill a hole and shoot some expanding foam into it, but don't fill it. That should make it more stable.

    If folks want to be able to do push-ups on them, they can do a second layer of the plaster cloth. It's just like when we'd use crumpled and taped newspaper instead of that foil sheet, but it's a lot less fussy.

    A tip for the texturing of the hobbit homes. The archways of your model have the wood veins across the shape in a vertical manner. This really caught my eye cause i'm a texture artist and it's a common mistake that makes wood assets look unnatural.The wood veins would ideally conform to the shape of a long beam that has been curved, and wood beams always have the veins running along their lenght. That's just how wood is cut. If this is not an option because you're applying the wood texture procedurally or you don't have time to rearrange the uvs or re-sculpt, make sure you add details to give the idea that its made from more than one piece (by shifting the wood vein at certain intervals and by painting different shades that might suggest the wood is from different cuts). Hope this helps.

  • @RealTerrainHobbies

    @RealTerrainHobbies

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm well aware. Sometimes its a time spent vs practicality type of thing in order to just get things done efficiently without jumping on every little detail. I would bet you the extra time put in, which digs into all the other things I have on the go, will have little to no effect other than the rare occasional person who'd notice/take significant interest in such details. So it's a matter of balancing time for me. I'd love to spend hours/days on one model if I could. I try to add in entire new wood pieces where I can with proper grain direction when I think it's necessary. We can pretend in this fantasy world our hobbits thought it'd be a great idea to make an entire door frame from one giant felled piece of lumber, only to later discover cracking above the doorway as the wood dries and succumbs to the weather outside. A sad tale and hard lesson learned from this particular Hobbit who thought he knew better than the master carpenter in town he doesn't get along with. :)

    I learned a long time ago the fun if making terrain runs out when the space to store it does. But I'm sure some games store would love it...

    I'm looking at an external storage unit after this one like Lachie from Zorpazorp has for all his terrain. ;)

    I'm a beginning model railroader but learned so much from your videos to date. Looking forward to next one after this one! Great videography and background music by the way :) What brand/model respirator do you use? I'm going to need one as my layout is on second floor and don't have a dedicated paint booth with fan to outside. Thx.

    What kind of fights do you guys get into needing that sort of structural support? My man's doing push ups on his artwork. If anyone else does that; body-slam them into the brickwork! Beautiful project.

    Looking good, Neil! I'm curious about the storage situation. With this lightweight building system, do you think it would be possible to drill a couple holes in the back and hang these from hooks vertically on a wall? Or are the boards still a bit too heavy for that?

    Was so excited to see the next part. It's coming together so well but I gotta say, the advertising in this went off the rails a bit :') And I don't mean the WS stuff. You mentioning your Patreon is absolutely fine, but recurring mentions and several pop ups in the video itself? Kinda divided on this since you should advertise yourself and point people to Patreon, you deserve that money. Just feels weird when it pops up every 4 minutes or so. Also had the problem of the music being louder than your speaking, had to decrease the volume every time you stopped talking.

    I think you're actually making Hobbiton, which is a hobbit town IN The Shire, but not the entirety of the Shire, which is made up of several towns

    @@RealTerrainHobbies That's ok, I am sure you can clear it up in the next part! When you make nerd things for nerds, nerds will let you know when something is wrong, so it's just par for the course... Or maybe you could just make a 40pt series building the ENTIRE Shire... In a warehouse? ;)

    Love this video - and the Build is incredible! My only criticism: Im feeling like your music sometimes is to loud in comparison to your voiceover; Maybey you could tone it down a bit for future videos
