Cracking build Lachie! I love the relative simplicity of the paint job, yet how effective the overall look is when it comes together, makes it more within the realms of a mere mortal like me :) And can quite see why you love the oils, they really do add to it.

Now that you mentioned imperial iconography, a long time ago I read an article about a painter doing a diorama of angron busting trough a door and cutting down loyalist, it was fine till somebody mentioned the Aquila on the doors and how they were not yet part of the oficial imperial iconography yet, I dunno if this is true but I'm throwing it just in case you don't go and stencil a bunch of Aquilas, however you might have already done it, so I don't know how helpful this is

it's unclear in lore. the imperial aquila was predated by the palatine aquila (personal icon of the Emperor chosen at the start of the great crusade in 798.M30), but he would grant that exclusively to the Emperors Children legion at some point before the heresy. I can't find an established date for the imperial variant or a fixed point where the previous icon became exclusive, but one would assume that as all the other legions removed their palatine devices, something replaced them... While there's no explicit support in lore, there's not actually any strong counter-argument unless your setting is year-exact Great Crusade and you know the date of the Proximan Betrayal (I don't, it falls in the last 200 years of M30, the span of the Crusade), in which case you might want to use the Palatine version. Heresy or post-Heresy setting is even safer as that was started in the first few years of M31, years have passed, do we honestly believe the Astartes bear no badge?

Please do a whole series of battle reports on this!! It would be amazing to see the step by step battle through the city!

I'm probably years away from ever playing 40k, my place/life is too chaotic to be able to handle trying to learn how to paint minis. When I do though, you, squidmar et al will help me probably get good quickly!

So close to 100k subs dude and few deserve it more than you. This project is completely bonkers!

Wow. I would never have the patience to paint even one model. Let alone something like this.

I'm posting once again this comment cause I really hope it reaches you and you read it: Here in Spain is one of the most beautiful churches ever made, right here in Zaragoza, my city. The Basilica del Pilar is a huge church which was bombarded during the Spanish Civil War. Three was the total number of bombs which actually got to hit the church. This huge church was built to honor the virgin Maria (which is a huge religious symbol of Zaragoza) one of the bombs blew up the roof of it. But not destroying the church, the two other bombs hit the roof without exploding! Broke it and fell to ground floor. Again, without exploding, it is said that the virgin Maria helped the resisting troops of Zaragoza and blessed them helping the bombs not explode and keeping the church almost intact. The two bombs that didn't explode are now held in two of the main pillars for people to see. I feel like this is a story which could perfectly fit Warhammer 40k! Hope this inspires you to make some amazing backstory for your table!!

Hahaha, FDM washing can show up the layer lines, not a hard and fast rule by any means :)

Yeah I had about four hours to paint it because of our campaign filming constraints, when she gets set up as a display piece we'll do a whole 'upgrading the paint scheme' project for it :)

I drove through Otematata last month and got a fantastic schooling from the Barman there about some amazing South Island names haha "OH-TEH-MAH-TAA-TAA" is actually "aut-ma-ta-ta" so much to learn haha

Would somebody be so kind as to fill me in while you don't wash 3D prints? Is it the little Ribbleys the 3D printer leaves behind that's what I'm guessing is that the wash would make those stand out?

Yeah when you print with super obvious layer lines, which can be more prominent with FDM prints, washing can make them really obvious :) Not a hard and fast rule and depends o nthe print :)
