@@thefox4279 WHAT just because he is young does not mean he can just get a better paying job!!! Ability to work does not mean a ok paying job will just hire him. Not going to work because they are suing him. Unless he decides not to work at all, they will likely garnish his wages since he is in a state where they can.
Working things off with mom is a good plan if he’s making $20 an hour from her. Then it’s no different than getting a better job. Better, actually, given nobody is paying taxes on it. It’s a good fast start.
In other words I have $0 dollars.
NOBODY KNOWS THEIR RIGHTS! Smh! Who is the original creditor?!!!! YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the advice but they have to stop with "Go find a job for $20 minimum" as if that's possible :/ college graduates aren't getting paid $20 and $25. And in his scenario he should be on a student loan and a part-time job so he can pay his debt and live on minimum means , so he can focus on his studies, get high grades and possibly land a good job. Graduating with low grades. Minimum knowledge , debt free is not going to help him in his career.
don't take any money from mom. then don't pay one cent unless the debt is cleared with that payment. wait. time is on your side. otherwise let them sue you. you will be better off long run. just check your state laws on debt too. as at some point you may not legally owe it.
Wow I’m shocked by the lack of sympathy in the comment section and so much judgement. Interesting to see how it would be if the tables were turned.
I applied for a slightly ambitious car loan today and hearing these types of WILD situations makes me feel a lot better😂😂

I don't think this was fair to Randal. Was it a debt collector or credit card company. There are a few things he could of done before what you all told him.
lol "Just get another job!..." Classic. As if the world really worked that way.
note: one job at 18/hr allowing 60hr/wk with time and a half overtime = 40x18 + 20x27 = 720+540 = 1260. This would equivalent to two jobs totaling 60hr/wk at 21/hr. Point is, it's not necessarily a matter of who offers the best normal hourly rate, overtime rate is a consideration. (health insurance is too but could be skipped for healthy young man). In the logic of the CC suing: it is unlikely that they truly believe they can get more than the cost. So, it is really a bluff to get you to cough up. Hence, there is room to negotiate.

@Matt Simple minded? If he wants more than simple minded generic advice he needs professionals or social workers, not a radio call in show. Since it is a radio call in show the answers are general bite size headline type advice and not getting too deep into the weeds. Only so much can be resolved in a few minutes. The point is to not ignore and pretend the debt doesn't exist until forced to acknowledge them because of a being sued. Call the creditors - they would be more willing to work with you than lose 100%. Once sued collection agencies get involved and it gets much more complicated.
