A Woman is No Man depicts the reality of many Arab/ Muslim women no matter how many people deny it because they did not live through t the same experience. I hear about Arab women going through abuse and hell and get killed at least two to three times a week.

Very interested in the Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st century. Saw this one lurking in my library and now I'm more incline to read it. Thanks for the video!

Welcome back! Re: A Woman is No Man, it's autofiction, isn't it? ETA: I went and searched for a link to Rana Najjar's video on the book from last year for her discussion (and in the comments), but then I saw that you'd commented already! 🤣
Welcome back! It sounds like you've had a really good reading year, even if you haven't read a ton of books. Quality over quantity is always better.

The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly sounds so interesting! I want to read it just so I could see if I'd also find the allegories to be related to being queer like you did or something else. Also, there were some funny bits in there that i laughed out loud at heh

Enjoyed your reviews and good luck in your endeavors. Our book club (10 American women, 1 man, none of us Muslim) read A Woman is No Man and we ALL gave it 5 stars. The discussion was intense, as you can imagine. Women worldwide (yes, even in the USA) like those fictionalized, face trauma from abuse and oppression. Labeling it “our culture” or “our religion” just enables the misogyny to continue. It was an uncomfortable read. We were horrified and felt their pain. The group’s consensus was that it was an honest and realistic story and a brave attempt by the author to bring oppression of Palestinian women to the forefront. Etaf Rum allows no excuse for religion and CULTure and we are more enlightened because of her story.
