My brother and I saw this movie when it first came out on cable, on HBO I think, probably in 82 or 83. I was around 7 years old at the time, my brother probably 9. Xanadu became the first album that me and my brother ever asked our parents to buy us. We didn't care too much for the plot of the movie, but Olivia Newton-John was hot, and the music was awesome. The album is still, in my opinion, the greatest soundtrack of all-time.

It’s tough to find a movie where the music makes it enjoyable to watch these days.

This whole films addresses the funadmental human condition of self-aware consciousness, creativity and self doubt, all without ever failing to be fabulous. It's posibly my favourite film. I think being obsessed with this film as a kid informed the rest of my life. Literally if everyone just chilled out for a bit and danced around all floaty and cool the world would be a much nicer place.

You get what they were trying to do. The whole is greater than the sum. Seems like we are in the minority!! There is a feeling i get watching this that reminds me of being a kid on the 70's. A delicious world that was out there that was being revealed to my "innocent" mind.

I'm with you guys! I have been sort of obsessed with this movie most of my life. It's a celebration of life and love mixed with myth and assorted musical genres. I absolutely LOVE this movie. But, yes. It seems we are the minority on this one.

I would give just about anything in the whole world to go back!

I watched this movie constantly as a kid. I thought it was so magical. Then of course the 80's ended and I had to be embarrassed for myself. (at least for a while) But I do love this song. Here's to 80's cheese!

Alas yes, the 80's did end, but my love for them and this type of music never did. A lot of the stuff I listen to now is 'shaded' y the 80's! LOL. I saw this as a double feature in 1980 with Clash of the Titans. This part still takes my breath away when the song starts.

Anything that has music from ELO am watching.

Most incredibly beautiful dancing sequence ever filmed! The ladies were stunning and their flowing moves captured in special effects were absolutely magical.

I watched this movie as a teenager. I feel in love with the actors and music. It made me sad when Olivia Newton John died. She had the voice you will never forget. My thoughts go out to the family and friends. As long as we listen to her movies and watch her movies she will never be forgotten. Rest in peace you will be missed.

One of the most underrated movies of all time. Plus the soundtrack was excellent as well.

God I loved this movie... it gave me a love of roller skates and I even had the album. I know that as an adult I'm supposed to hate it, but nah.. it has a special place in my heart.

Bought the original recording XANADU by ELO when it first came out. I listen to it when I need to feel uplifted from todays world with all its problems. Better times then and nicer kinder people. ELO and their music was right there with us with all their great songs pure talent.

Viciously panned by film critics when it first premiered... yet, what is it about "Xanadu" that's so rapturous? Critics who really can't get behind a genuine honest emotion brought on by a-feel-good-movie can be soooo cruel and really appear to be missing out on life! A guilty pleasure... sure, and why not? We all have at least one... don't we?

That opening is just amazing even accounting for the passing of time.

Almost forgot about this song...very underrated tune by ELO. Jeff Lynne's brilliance shines through again. Thank you for posting.

Brought the soundtrack for my Dads 40th as he liked ONJ and this ended up how I got into ELO still love the music

but I do love how they come alive and step out of the painting..thats awesome how they did that!!

I love this film. One of my favourite scenes is this one, the nine sisters coming to life.

Sometimes I'm sad this was Gene Kelly's final film, but it appears he was having fun, and I'd like to think that he was. The film is completely inoffensive; it's fun if you don't take it seriously. And damn, but it's got a fantastic soundtrack!

The dance scene with Olivia and Gene Kelly is one of my favorites of the movie. I got choked up the first time I saw it and still get a little teary eyed everytime I watch that scene. Such a legend.

We all have our muses. One of mine happens to be Olivia and one of my favorite song-writers is Jeff Lynne. There are about twenty of each. Both are in the top fifty in my personal hierarchy of artists.

Now I know Jeff Lynne's name properly thank you I still stumble with spelling of people's names anyway with E.L.O this Soundtrack would not have been born.

One of the best scenes of the film 🎥. Muses come alive.

I love this movie. My uncle first showed me this movie when I was like 4 and ever since then I loved it so much I would always ask him if I could borrow his copy like weeks at a time lol. Definitely one of the best movies ever done.

When I was really sick and almost died, this song gave me hope. 😢

This movie, especially this scene, I’d say is one of the most beloved memories of my childhood. Hearing and seeing this brings back a whole range of emotions that encapsulate a time of life that I only realise now, being 40, that I miss and treasure so much. The feelings this scene evokes feeds my soul to this day. Olivia Newton John has unequivocally shaped me. This movie, along with Grease are the epitome of greatness, movies that just don’t get made any longer.

I’m 46yrs old and this scene/song still gives me chills after all these years. My mom took my to see this when I was 8 and I loved it so much then and still do now. I still have the album that was given to me on Christmas of ‘81. That was such an amazing soundtrack and I listened to it backwards and forwards. Love Jeff Lynne!

One of the most beautiful dance scenes ever

Xanadu is, without a doubt, the most CAMPY movie on record. However, I used to watch it over and over with my two young daughters and we LOVED IT! Plus, all that ELO music was/is just great.

I'm Alive and The Fall are the most underrated song and reprise.

I love this movie and this song. I think the whole album is great. and yes...I have the original album. .still. :)

This is the first thing I ever remember seeing in a movie theater...I mean this scene specifically, is the only thing I remember. I was 4 years old, it's a miracle that I remembered ANYTHING from that day. Also, I have always had an incredibly unnatural obsession with ELO since my childhood to this very day. I NOW get it!

Jeff Lynne is one of my favorite composers for Miss Newton-John in this plus for my other favorite soprano Agnetha Faltskog (the blonde in ABBA) - good times with pop down from Mr. J.S. Bach who started it all in a major way (big fan and player of his on some fairly large instrumentation - these remind me a lot of each other.....)

+John Shue This part was actually not. This part was done by the effects studio responsible for all the regular vfx in the movie. The animation sequence later on in the film set to ELO's Don't Walk Away is the sequence that was done by Don Bluth.

Oh ... 08 - 08 -80! How we waited for you! And you did not fail! Such a wonderful, happy AND FINALLY!, BELOVED film. Olivia magic, (literally), a true lady, and now A Dame 🇬🇧 , white hot in music & fresh from starring in the most successful movie musical of all time, was the only truly lovely star that could, (without asking), bring Gene Kelly out of retirement to choreograph an entire "old style" tap number for the two of them. Such a wonderful soundtrack with songs written specifically for each scene. John Farrar is an understated and underrated genius, (the song, "Dancin', alone - WOW & WOW!!💙). Mr. Farrar is undeniably a consistently brilliant musician, writer and producer. Billboard magazine's year-end issue wrote that the most disappointing "blip" for music in1980 was that there wasn't a 12' inch extended remix of Olivia's angelic vocals set against the lush string arrangements of Farrar's penned & produced "Magic". Then, more joy... Jeff Lynne with Olivia on the title track..Genius in the form of a #1 song in four countries. This clip for the song, "I''m Alive" is perfect on its own. But again, to think it was also tailor written for a specific scene? Hat's off! There are reasons that the soundtrack immediately did so well, and that the film DID follow suit & make money for the spineless Universal Studios. It became a smash, despite Universal pulling the rug out from under the film, (700 screens when 2, 500 had committed to it!). The reason was simple - a fantastic score, with two 💙 💙 globally beloved icons in a neon - technicolor film fantasy that celebrated happiness ... Thank Goodness people really took to the film, ("Rocky Horror" style),18 years later... and Xanadu is still going strong. Olivia Newton-John too often "apologizes"for "Xanadu,". She should attend JUST ONE of the packed 5,000 seat celebration screenings & she'd be as proud of it as she is of the soundtrack. Thank you for sharing the clip and thank you to everyone in Xanadu that brought it, ( & us), such magic.

Fantastic album, and movie! My earliest memories of ELO music. Have this on DVD and still watch it, from time to time. Takes me back to when I was a kid! ♥️ Finally saw ELO last night. Absolutely fantastic live. Thank you, Jeff Lynne!

Love this scene and music

Sandahl Bergman... you can tell she lived dancing... her turns and spins are exquisite. You can even see it in "Red Sonja" when she battles Sonja...the way she moved. Then I see this and find out she's a dancer... all make sense!

The 9 daughters from Zeus... He was quite busy😂 I will always love this performance from these incredible dancers..( Especially from Sandahl Bergman, the blond, ballet- like dancer...she's amazing) Love how Olivia fit in this scene like a glove. Dreamy and beautiful

My Dad always played this in his old Tercel when i was little in the early 2000's and it always made me feel a certain way.

Ah neon pink, 80s and Olivia, best things in life. Some great songs in this movie, cheesy at times but that's what makes movies like this, the Pirate Movie and Grease 2 so great, cheesiness and great tunes! lol Xandu ftw!
