I agree with you wholeheartedly. Social media has become extremely commercialized over the past few years. The young generations watch much less TV and the ad agencies are now following them to the Internet to exploit them in every way. Consumerism is what I want a break from when I watch intelligent content but it's everywhere and sexist ads are part of that. Keep the creativity alive and make important content you love! We need more minds like yours on the Internet. Thank you for brining this to light. I'm sick of clickbait and orbeez making and trying weird candy videos. make videos with a cause and deeper message! We need more of that

I also think it would refreshing to see more videos on social justice, feminism, environmentalism, and other current important issues that need to be critically discussed online. I know you are passionate in these topics, as I am also, and that would be awesome if you would share your thoughts and definitions of what various movements mean to you and help others take part. I would share those types of vids on my social media to help inform others! It would be fulfilling for you and others to watch. xoxo (btw I also live in Chicago! :)

plus there is a huge "market" for intelligent content! I personally love watching SJW videos. It provokes great discussion and that's honestly so much more admirable then some of the frivolous shit that we're inundated with (even though it is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me lol)

hey anna! i agree with your message completely... all the social media platforms i'm on are slowly crumbling to branded content and it's really heartbreaking to witness. ... & i'm sorry that you've been feeling this way about your work. i know you'll find your spark again and will keep creating the amazing content that i have always looking forward to seeing in my feed, no matter if it's a rant or a vlog or a makeup tutorial!! i've been following your work for quite some time and i'm always inspired by it. although i love all your videos, my favorites are honestly the creative videos where your passion definitely lies (labor of likes from a long time ago + your two videos about social media/brands!) i'm looking forwards to seeing what you create next. please don't let the platform get u down xx much love and happy holidays!

I feel where you are coming from 100%. Its really hard to sit and play the game when it kind of makes you feel sad because its not our own original, meaningful content... It's just whatever is trending and whatever will do well. I have been upset about this too. It just really sucks because I want to reach success, work hard and do that best I can, but I also wish my original content could be seen without having to fit KZread's algorithm.

Anna, if it makes you feel any better, I have learned so much from you. Even when watching your snapchat stories, I love listening to you talk about the things you are passionate about. you are such a good teacher and seem so educated and I think lots of your young viewers (like me) learn a lot from you. The way you feel about social media/the Internet has truly changed my perspective on it and I wish it wasn't like this either!! I really do miss how social media was (even 3 years ago) and not having to scroll through so many fake posts and advertisements. There are so many amazing people out there, like you, that deserve so much more attention on the Internet because of how amazing their content is. I really wish people got more chances nowadays on the internet :/ anyways you will always have my support and I think you should be proud of what you've created this year :)

Keep being genuine with what you post. Keep in mind we are trying to get people to follow who have common interest rather than any followers or high follower counts, like you said you want to inspire and influence positivity. People who unfollow are typically the ones who followed because one video which isn't relevant with your social media character, followed to get the attention, or want to be trending. Nothing is wrong with this, but if you want to have an actual engaging fan base you need to post your true self to attract people who like you and want to see your next idea, encouraging to do what you want. Remember corparate money is getting involved with instagram and facebook. Instagram is the new TV so to speak. KEEP DOING YOU, I Love these videos where you discuss your mind!

I was talking with a friend the other day and we were both kind of weirded out about how hard it is to find interesting things to watch on KZread anymore when it used to be crazy easy- the recommended box used to actually have content related to what you were watching. Even if you feel like you haven't been doing it the way you should, I'm sticking around because I know regardless of how you evolve and grow for the better, it's going to be good. ❤️Second of all, I wanna say as much as this feeling sucks and the whole game aspect of social media sucks, I think these feels have helped motivate and inspire you to create more things that you truly love, so I think this will bring about positive things!! +++ it'll get better! And third of all, please don't ever feel afraid to cry (whether it's in front of us or not) about social media or anything! Sometimes we got mad feels about shit and ya can't really explain it but fuck it, ya feel like crying and ya just need to have a cry. As much as people think crying is weak, I think it's really strong to fully feel your real emotions. ❤️ just my $0.02. Excited for your project and sending positive vibes your way! +++++

2:18 it's like they literally created a bunch of monsters..but IMO anna, I completely relate to what your saying. As a musician, there is this dichotomy of wanting to become ubiquitous in order to spread whatever genuine message that you feel is on your heart yet feeling this pressure to succumb to the status quo in order to keep your head above water. The best advice I can say is allow yourself to get the best of both worlds. Put out what you want to put out with components of relevance. Tweak your content if that makes sense. That way you can still placate your audience and be authentic. and if tweaking your content doesn't satisfy you then don't! You will realize that there IS an audience that will appreciate YOUR content..the content that comes from your heart. it may not be as big as you want... or it may grow in the future, but it's only going to hurt you more in the long run to look back and say I'm not happy with what I have to show for myself and I feel like you're already getting to that point.

Girl! Yes! This is awesome. I don't consider myself a creator, but follower count is an insecurity for a lot of people and has led me to post more neutral things on my social media platforms because they're received better. When I put something that I wholeheartedly stand behind, it feels like I'm putting a piece of myself out there. Opening myself up to criticism and possible hurt. But like you said - Fuck it! What's the point in creating something that doesn't make people feel a little uncomfortable, after all? Thanks for speaking on this, and although you said you haven't been proud of anything you have created this year, I do admire you for taking a stand on politics, talking about sustainable eating etc. You go, girl. I'm a much smaller content creator in a very small niche community, but this month I decided to try Vlogmas. It's my first time ever vlogging - I did it to challenge myself and try something new. I lost almost 10% of my subscribers this month. I'm aware that this is likely because the people who were following me were doing so for specific content, not daily vlogs, but it did psych me out for a little while! I'm trying something new that is really exciting and challenging to me, but it was really hard to not focus on that subscriber count! I know you're talking about the algorithms of the platform, and so my example is a little off topic, but I do understand how a focus on 'that number' can influence what we create. Interestingly, although my subscriber number dropped significantly, the engagement I was receiving on my videos seemed more positive. I wish KZread could weigh that engagement and responsiveness of an audience with the hard numbers in a more productive way. Clickbait videos get the clicks, but the meaningful, engaging content is what sustains the community. Thanks for being so open.

Your response is very real and I'm glad you made this video. After watching the episode one of season 3 of Black Mirror, I've starting to think about the way social media is changing and I am honestly scared that It will get to that point. This video really made me feel like it is going in that direction and its sad and scary. I encourage everyone to watch that episode. Anna I truly hope things get better.

Anna, I love this video. I graduated with my English degree in May and have been working a job that I love but that also has nothing to do with my true passions. My creativity feels totally stifled and I'm not proud of what I create mostly because I'm not creating much, if it all for months on end. I think the older you get, the harder it is to stay creative and push yourself to make things that challenge you. My goal in 2017 is to be more creative and hopefully find a new job path that challenges that side of me more. Also, holla from a fellow Chicagoan. Didn't know till recently we lived in the same city! 💕 thanks for your content!

Before watching this video I was skeptical not really sure of what, but as I watched it I really felt happy that someone addressed this. I've felt the same way for a while. I don't want to trash anyone's favourite social media platforms but I have felt this way about almost all social media platforms; Facebook (because of all the excessive ads since, 2011 I think, when the ads started rolling out), KZread (because of all the annoying click bait it's hard to find a genuine and/or actually interesting video to watch), twitter (also becoming ad obsessed), instagram (no real interesting content being posted just selfie after selfie...), snapchat (people feeling the need to post consecutive snaps of them doing the most basic boring things) and all platforms for a few years now with people just #f4f #r4r #L4L with nothing really to offer to their fans/followers/supporters just so they can get "fans". I've just in the last month or so just stopped checking my media other than to refresh my feed and look at the first few new contents because of it excluding instagram only because of my internet addiction but I agree with you 100%

Anna, I love your mind and your views on the world and how you are not afraid to touch base with controversial topics. I agree and would much rather you do and create something you are passionate about. (Even if it means one video a month vs a video every day.) It is so much better to break away and follow the path you want to even if it's not the popular road. By doing so you are right, your followers will decrease, but you will also gain people who share your views and interests and whole heart idly enjoy what you produce. It is much better to have a smaller amount of followers that enjoy what you are proud of, other than a large amount of followers who want you to make content that you are not happy with. And I know you are aware of that. I just hope that you continue to heal your view on your following; people will love to see what you create but it is most important THAT YOU LOVE IT. I personally enjoyed your Bad Feminist book club you had a while back. I love your content about things that matter to YOU. ALWAYS SPEAK YOUR MIND. Never feel like you shouldn't use your voice. You are educated and should not be afraid to share your point of view. I look forward to anything you have to create and I mean this post in the best way possible. Don't feel pressure from yourself, everyone's voice inside their head is an asshole.

click bait is bogus, turning everything into a game is bogus. There's no raw content from the people that create on these platforms anymore. The whole followers thing bothers me, it's like a social climbing stigma. I wish people would create content they enjoy, people will soon be over the trends and will want to look for reality in creators. please just post what makes you happy. The numbers and the followers will only hold you back. thank you for bringing this forward. I appreciate that you want to create what you feel proud of. I respect that. you are an amazing women and I hope to see great things from you in the future 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Dame girl that's the exact same reason I don't want to do KZread anymore and im so happy that some people are realizing and it so sad that people are getting hurt by this because it does effects many people on the social media life. It's just so crazy and it's not fun anymore and it don't interest me to make videos anymore because everyone is just doing the same thing and people are really getting hurt mentally and physically 💔
