It is moral education inculcated when young. China may be poor in the past but had always put honor and dignity first in personal conduct. Of course there are exceptions of small number of dishonest offenders who can only be deterred by heavy reprimand when convicted. In a capital list society, most are blinded by greed and individual interest than shouldering public social responsibility.

In America I regularly have had mechanics steal my possessions, such as money, fishing lures, and tools stolen from me when I went to get my car fixed. I have had my apartment broken into and most of the costly possessions stolen by somebody living close to me at my apartment and I did have an idea who it might be, but I had no proof. Furthermore, a couple of times I had fishermen steal my lures when I fished next to them. I have even dropped my wallet in a dark movie theatre before and when I went back to get it about an hour later the attendant gave me a wallet with all of cash missing. I had about $175 inside the wallet. Thank goodness they did not steal my credit and debit cards as well! Based on my experience of living in America all of my life I can honestly say Americans are some of the shadiest people in the world! And you could also see it with our shadiness politicians and oligarchs! The chances of somebody returning your lost wallet back to you is not good. It could happen, but the odds are against you. I don’t think the Chinese people are as bad as the Americans. I don’t like to admit it, but it’s true!

I was under the impression that Russia was an even more difficult place for vegetarians. I think you can 'get by' in many Chinese restaurants by telling the staff and asking for vegetarian dishes because many things are cooked from scratch. I would guess that more Chinese than Russians are vegetarians. I'm a subscriber to 'In Russian From Afar', a YT channel for learning Russian and the guy there is also vegetarian, or more probably a vegan. I wonder whether there would be opportunities for Ivan to teach Russian instead of English as China will now benefit from having more Russian-speaking Chinese as we see Sino-Russian relations elevate to a new level.

The emphasis should not be made on there are camera everywhere in China. This gives the impression the West likes to paint China as an Authoritarian Regime that monitors citizens’ every moment. The highlight should be focused on that the lost items were found intact and nobody took it from the spot where it was found. This says a lot about the civility, integrity and moral decency of the common society in China as opposed in most other democratic countries where the lost items are very seldom recovered, let alone with all contents intact. If such a righteous society is perceived to pose a real security threat to the world as expounded by US, it is obvious that US and it’s collectives West do not wish China well. This perhaps explains China’s great achievements and is forever in search of advancement targeted at surpassing the best of the best.

Why ignore the camera aspect? That's what they are for. Security. If someone took the wallet and did not report or hand it in, then that would make them a thief, and the cameras can be used to prosecute them. So no one taking it can also be attributed to it being under the watchful eye of cameras. You can also argue that no one taking it to hand to the security or train staff shows lack of empathy, rather than they didn't want to steal it. They just don't want the hassle to do a good deed, because it might look like they stole it if the wallet goes missing after they hand it in to security or train staff. So yeah, cameras are a main part of safety and security, that's what they are for. Nothing authoritarian about it. Authoritarian is about the use of laws and how strict it is. Not cameras. Otherwise everyone using home camera or security system for security is also authoritarian. Let the west or China haters say what they want, China will keep adapting to new technology and improving life and society with it while they can argue whether it's authoritarian or not.

I once had 500 pounds stolen from my school bag ( I put the money inside an envelop which in turn was put between the pages of my school text books), which I put in the canteen of my company during the lunchtime. The money I was meant to pay for my rent that evening. 500 pounds was quite a big amount of money for me at the time because I was a student, and the job I was working at that company was a part-time job. I couldn't believe some staff could be thief, they would go to check other people's bag and steal things. When I finished my work after 5pm and went to the canteen to fetch my bag, I found the money inside was gone, so I reported it to my manager immediately. My manager was quite sympathetic and said I should have never left the bag in the canteen in the first place. Because of no cctv cameras around, he said he could do nothing about it and adviced me to report it to the police, so I went to the police station which was quite close to our company, and reported the whole event to the attending police, the police just record the matter down but wouldn't do anything, and I have never got the money back till now.
