still love this movie. watched it last night. very sad. i feel sad for him. they portrayed true love on film. i hope in another lifetime they are cats so they can meet up and do cat shit.

An emotional, achingly sad and breathtaking ending. A great , though underrated film. Some will sneer, but I rate Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz as actors.

Tom Cruise was amazing

Yes, he was dreaming, but only after he fell to the ground after the party... Everything before that was reality. He never saw Sofia again after he woke up on the street the next day, and he did not kill his girlfriend, cause that was only a dream too. All these things are told at the end of the movie when they are taking the elevator to the roof.

The ending was left open to interpretation. All the ones I came up with hurt 😔

@snickledoosh he was dreaming, in a lucid dream, in suspended animation while his body is frozen, "i'm frozen and you're dead".. he killed his girlfriend because he was mentally unstable and fucked up from both an operation on his face (affected his brain as well as the suicide/attempted murderer involving his ex) so he chose to go on living with the pain as opposed to a fake perfect reality of his choosing... go watch the movie now!! can't believe i answered that haha

DJ AG doesn't mean anything. She is just upset he got into the car when he told her he was suppose to go to work. After that night with Sophia she assumed he would stop seeing Julie.

what does her quote meant? is her trying to be clever, cute like she does throughout the whole movie? i found her quote to ridiculous, because it seems like she thinks its clever. I do understand she is deflecting and get quite uncomfortable at this point but still.

I think I'm a little late to answer that, but, anyway, here's the conclusion I've got: The first, and only, time Sofia says that, David reacted just like you "what does it mean? It makes no sense" and starts laughing. It probably doesn't have a greater meaning, at least I can think of any, just seems like something she heard before in her life and uses when doesn't want to say something, could be some normal phrase from where she came from. The second time "she" says that, it's not really her, just David imagining her; here's where the phrase has a true meaning, here it shows that David remembered even the silly/nonsense things about her, as if each little thing about Sofia was perfect, you know, a true love. Despite that, saying "I'll see you in another life, when we are both cats", could mean that they will have not just one more life together, but 7/9 lifes, you know, the "joke" that cats have more than just one life.

It's nonsense ... like the song that's playing, "The Nothing Song", with nonsensical lyrics. But it means something to them. It becomes their code. It means everything and nothing, it means whatever you want it to mean - life.

I think it is a very simple line, and should be taken at face value. He asks her to tell him. She says “I will tell you in another life, when we are both cats.” Aka, she will never tell him in this life; ever.
