    It's mind-blowing how many of the comments under this video are just people complaining about you playing a game that's not finished yet that they can pre-order if they want to. I mean it's not like this is the exact brand of game you play on this channel pretty much all the time so I would expect you to end up playing this at some point anyways but it's not like you're telling people to go out and pre-order the goddamn thing. You're literally just playing it and you've even made it abundantly clear that you've been paid for the time spent playing it, just because you're paid for your time doesn't mean you're paid to say the game's good or to try to convince other people to buy it. It's not like you're giving a review on the damn thing and beyond that you've even criticized several aspects of it so I'd say you're being pretty fair. Making a video saying Hey guys so this game exists or is being made and the company making it paid me to play it for a little while so I did here's some gameplay footage and some of my opinions about it just doesn't feel like some kind of glowing review or advertisement to convince people to pre-order it at least not in my opinion. The game seems pretty fun now I'm definitely not going to pre-order because I've never pre-ordered anything because I'm not willing to but I'll keep an eye out for when it gets released now that I know it exists.

    Personally I dont have anything against Potato Iove his videos. What I am fed up about is Paradox’s inability to make a good game and their scammy business model. All of their new releases suck. The only successfull new release was Crusader Kings which stayed dormant for 4 years finally getting the plague dlc which at this point I dont even care about. I played their games for thousands of hours and seeing how both their design and pricing sucks the only reason they are still relevant is that there isnt a game with the same scope. I believe paradix is going to fall off just like Maxis when someone releases a game like what CS was to SimCity.

The dude played a game he would have likely ended up playing at some point anyways except he got paid to play it now and I think that's an incredibly smart fucking decision call Mom dude has bills to pay same as the rest of us. Potato has even spoken out before about how typically he doesn't receive nearly as much money when he does things like this as he should have given how much spread his videos typically end up getting so it's not like you got rich off of making the video and I don't even recall him telling anybody to go pre-order the damn thing so it's not like he's trying to convince people to pre-order it either.

    I know the game needs more polish but the mechanics are really interesting. A big problem I have with Civ is how it's very "uneven" development because you have food and production and that's basically it for on map stuff and production is so powerful. I like how you get a bit towards everything, workers, settlers, military, etc but can choose where to really specialize in.

  • @velyurong9513

    @velyurong9513

    Don't forget about science though! I'm pretty sure that in Civ (4,5,6 - doesn't matter) great production without adequate science is rather useless. At least in my experience that is Soo, I personally would say that Civ is food + production + science (and other parameters that surely exist but aren't as relevant). I see your point about "uneven"ness though - and I agree with you. Just thought that it's production+science that is OP, and production alone isn't that great 🤔

  • @WWFanatic0

    @WWFanatic0

    3 ай бұрын

    @@velyurong9513 In civ 5 science was king for sure, but in 6 it's been production. You just never come close to having enough nor will you have enough gold to compensate. High tech with lack of production means you struggle to build what you need to capitalize on the benefits of that tech. This is one of the problems civ has that millennia might improve on. Having multiple ladders and systems that all provide short and long term value gives you a lot more dynamism.

    @@WWFanatic0 thank you for this insight! I haven't played a lot of Civ 6, I must admit, so that's an interesting take to hear 🤔. My opinion was/is influenced by a youtuber that's used to say something along these lines: "in Civ 5 you can actually defend yourself from cannons with knights, and with muskets/cannons/siamese elephants from artillery - but in Civ 6 you can't do that due to power scaling". So that's why I was thinking science is a big factor there (if you're behind, you auto-lose)

    Yea feels like for optimizing cities, you need to preplan town expansions. With some import and export to maximize, with game added production lines. A district>towns and trade route>production goods overhaul compared to civ games. And its all very flexible, since you also get to customize your goverment as you go. And the fact outpost and vassal towns, are a flexible tool also based on your age up goverment paths . I feel like this game has far less of a rng issue, if your skilled enough to preplan your empire. Through event resource reveal pivots, and endgame victory goal. Also chaos system needs scaling to buy it off. Its a nice gating system against domination snowball.

    I first saw this with DasTactic. But it is so much better to watch with someone that understands the game on your level. I am honestly not sure if it is trying to fix issues in Civilisation or in Humankind. But there are clear Paradox influences across the board. - the combat system reminds me of Civ Call to Power. That was the non-Sid offshoot by Microprose. But that one had 9 unit tiles, too big. 3 might be a better number, at least at the start. I wonder if and how far it increases? - the whole "build your nation by choices" and "region" system is very clearly humankind. But I am worried that the nations are purely skins, with no personality. That was one inherent design mistake in humankind - making a lot of the resources into mana you can spend for instant benefits or save for lasting is ones is interesting. Kinda like EU4. Or gold rushing/faith buying. Also means gold is not tte most important resource - the region view reorganizes tiles by yields. So that makes it a lot easier to manage large regions with lots of terrain and improvements - improvements points replace worker micro or improvement micro. A good change. - national spirits are a mix of HOI Focus Trees or EU4 mission trees and idea groups

    @@SteinerNein "Nations that are purely skins" is probably a inherent design mistake. That means the game setup has no impact on gameplay. I cannot think of any modern 4x game where pure-skin factions worked.

    @@christopherg2347 You need to actually point out why it is a design mistake. A design mistake happens when your design does not match your intention; look at the actual game and think for a moment, the entire theme is creating a nation from scratch so it would be a design mistake to make nations have an identity before you even start crafting its history. Also, the design is to make you adapt and deal with chaos which means the more you frontload a civilization the less you're able to adapt as now you're running into a bunch of balance issues such as playing a coastal civ and then being landlocked etc. As for your quip about modern 4x, try Stellaris, try every AoW/Planetfall game, try every game that basically has custom races which is essentially pick your starting bonus and go.

    @@SteinerNein I will answer that with a counter question: Can you think of a successful game, that made the historical nation purely skin choice? I doubt it. Because people already know it is a bad idea.

    The game does look incredibly good (gameplay wise). I dont really care bout the graphics but what i'm a little bit concerned about is that they're trying to add a little bit of everything from the other GS games into this one and pack it as a 4X. If this actually does turn out to be good then i'll be incredibly delighted to play a game like the other Grand Strategies in a Civ like style but i really do hope they dont unnecessarily bloat it and make it too complex without reason. I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong but Paradox and game releases always seems to me like an unstable combination lol.

    Well I mean it's not like it's a AAA company that has the money to invest massive amounts of funds into advertisement and whatnot at least I don't think it is. I feel like having people play the game and give their opinions about it even if the game isn't finished yet really isn't that bad. I don't think this kinda video convinces that many people to pre-order but it does let a lot of other people know to keep an eye out for when the game is in fact finished. It spreads the knowledge of the game beyond the Die Hard kind of fans who would have already known about its existence and already pre-ordered most likely. I've never once pre-ordered any game in my life because I am perfectly fine with waiting until after the game comes out in many people play it to hear whether it's worth the money or not but if you're a massive fan of the genre then you're more likely to pre-order so I don't think the average person is going to pre-order the game even if they see this video.

    Maybe a minor issue, but I really hope they alter the UI to look more distinct from Civ. Looking at the game, there are times in menus when it could be mistaken for Civ Vi and times outside of menus it could be mistaken for V.

    I like the game and liked the demo, a middleground 4x taking a lot of good old world concepts. I think this is like playing Civ on prince however, none of your decisions mattered all that much because it just wasn't very hard. You basically ignored burial mounds until after their significant early boost was wasted but it didn't matter. Many things deleted or destroyed because the opportunity cost hardly exists when you don't need to play a tight game. Game will quickly become obselete to me if play with so many unchallenging meaningless decisions.
