I Learned Italian in 24 Hours

Ойын-сауық

Sign up to Babbel today to get 50% off 6 months for a limited time only: bit.ly/Xiaomanyc Today I attempted to learn to speak Italian in 24 hours (actually just 12 hours but 24 hours sounds better in the title). I teamed up with lots of native Italian speakers to try and tackle this beautiful and fascinating Romance language and I was able to make significant progress in just one day, particularly because I already spoke Spanish - they are really similar! I loved learning the language so much that I actually plan on continuing to learn the language after the challenge (with Babbel, actually!).

Italian teacher here: you know, Italian isn't THAT hard in terms of grammar, mutual comprehension etc... It's not impossible to get a good grasp of it in no time. As it is for almost any language, there is a barrier between speaking it/understanding it with seemingly no problems to *actually* think and construct complex thoughts, continuously (i.e. being proficient). The intricacies of the grammar rules are present as well, and really come back to bother you. But all in all, he's extremely good and he's learned a lot in such a limited time! Just to show a couple tricky thing about Italian, we have Princìpi/Prìncipi -> change one accent and the meaning changes completely (principles/princes) Zolla/Zolletta -> the suffix "-etta" means "lil" but those words are totally uncorrelated (the first is a synonym for 'hole', the next is a small dry biscuit) Prefixes and particle: Rincasare/Rivolgere -> those are different from Casare (meaningless word)/Volgere (one of hundreds of ways to say 'going to', but applied only to inanimate objects "il racconto volge al termine" is "the tale is going to end") Just to show, this is because I don't believe there is a "easy" or "hard" language, rather, there are levels of difficulty to encounter in every language!

@@teo0444 every parts of the phrase has to fit with the musicality of the sentence. If you hear, the parts of the sentence, change depending on the words you use. Spanish is way easier because they use less articles and grammatical parts. The first thing you usually do, is learning the verbs and names. And then you learn how to fit articles, etc. my guess tho. I found english very easy to learn. It makes sense it is one of the most spoken language in the world, because the articles are 2 only and verbs are way easier to learn. I love it. Italian has to be spoken cleanly, like if you are singing. It’s hard to explain, I am sure a teacher would do much better job than me explaining it 😂

11:15 don't be surprised man. Fun fact, there are a few swear words/common words that only make an appearance in only the dialects of the northern Italy, where people that live in the southern areas don't understand the meaning of, and vice-versa. If you would like to learn an Italian dialect, I suggest you go based on which ones you like the sound of, but good luck if you're going to learn the sardinian dialect. That's really and I mean REALLY challenging to learn and speak fluently. Ps. I'm Italian and, to me, Xiaoma speaks really well, for having studied only 1 day. ONLY little complain is, be sure of what you're gonna say, we usually don't like people who get stuck on a word because of insecurities, just say "fuck it" and speak your words.

I can see what he meant at the beginning, that Italian wasn't as easy as Spanish. I am a native Spanish speaker and when I was learning Italian, I could read it and infer the meaning, but when I tried listening to a conversation, it was hard to understand, I believe it has to do with the cadence and the accentuating of the words, something that takes years to master. Comunque, Io amo l'italiano ❤️.

Hello Xiaoma. Great vlogs! Some are very hilarious. I love seeing how people respond to you when you speak their language. So I bet you get a lot of requests to try and learn other languages, so I'm want to suggest one. I would like to see you learn Dutch. I am from the Netherlands and it be nice to have a conversation with you before and after you learned Dutch. What you think about that? I can refer you to a good teacher and KZreadr if you want. Like to hear from you! Bye.

I love the part that we italians joke and are open about almost everything. It feels like such a natural connection with eachother not hiding oppinions. we can sound mad at eachother but we ate just so into what we say and it feels more real in my oppinion. Thats what i miss the most from italy atleast now when i live in finland wich is almost the opposite

It's amazing how you can catch almost immediately the right pronunciation despite the differences in sound and stress. I mean, when I try to pronounce a word in a language I don't know, it takes few attempts to get just close.

Washington Neves I did about an hour per day, but in the last few months I was less consistent. There were some days where I wouldn’t feel like studying Italian, and I feel like that hindered me from doing as well as I could have. I managed to have two 30 minute conversations on Italki without much strain, but I honestly wasn’t satisfied with my level. Nowadays, I’m slowly starting to build it up again.
