I worked at a call center in the early 2000's, and I think, across the board, they are always a f-cked up ecosystem of weird people doing awful, boring, tedious, thankless work. I'm honestly surprised there aren't more crimes tied to call centers. It's been like 23 years since I worked in one, and off the top of my head I can still remember 5 guys who gave me full-blown serial killer vibes. And disregarding the people who work IN the call center, the people who RECEIVE the calls often want to kill the person making the call, so that's a whole other level. What I'm saying is, if anyone is looking for inspiration on a horror screenplay, set it in a 24 hour telemarketing center, circa 2002. It should pretty much write itself.

I came here to say working in a call center must be pretty awful if you can use it to recruit women to work in a brothel, let alone have multiple murderers employed there. So your comment makes a lot of sense.

saw some seriously messed up stuff at a call center. and this was a supposedly good one. O_O I can easily see transforming it into an escort service. It almost makes sense. My biggest fear was seeing an OD death since it was common to find needles in the washroom.

They sort of did that on an episode of inside no 9. It's called Cold Comfort. Just be warned the premise is based on a suicide call because it's set on a crisis helpline.

I used to do commercial cleaning years and years ago, and we did a call center for alarm companies. I have seen alot of bathrooms in my day, and you got your standard lazy nastiness, pee on the floor near anything, tp strung out all over like it's a party, writing on mirror ect. Ect. But that women's bathroom was on a whole other fuckin level. They had a weird ass chill spot set up for lack of a better term. Couple chairs and a couch which just added to the nasty shit (not litteral shit) we'd find in that bathroom. The men's bathroom was smaller and pretty standard, I don't think there were too many guys there at the time. We'd clean the place every week and I'd only be there a few hours at a time, but mannn some of the stories and drama I'd overhear 😭🤣🥴😵‍💫🤮🤮

yep, going back to the 70's as a teen worked at a call center , I think I lasted 2 days felt like 2 years. Such a mixture of character's all trying to get you into their world, scientology, / cults, pyramid schemes, liars you name it, some just wanted quick cash as they were transient.

Love this idea! Would love a quick intro that introduces the basics of the case and then the interview of people.

These types of conversations can easily bounce around chronologically and go back and forth, which works if you know what's being talked about but if you're following along it can get confusing. Therefore, having a brief overview of what happened can help with what is going on.

As someone who worked at an ACS call center, I am NOT surprised. At the ACS I worked in I witnessed the following. - a mgr selling green out of his office - the top manager for the campaign i worked on got arrested in the parking lot one day. -multiple people drinking at work, even one guy being found passed out on the bathroom floor wasted. - a mgr had a "popsicle sucking contest" - huge screaming fights at least once a week. - entire teams getting paid and not taking a single phone call while other agents got back-to-back to back calls all day, so the agents who knew how to divert the calls from coming into their phone would work overtime and just hang out at work for hours all on the clock.

I'm born and raised in Maine and 47. In 1990 my grandfather was murdered in broad daylight. 3 of my closest friends have lost immediate family members to murder, right here in Maine. We roll our eyes when we hear people talk about how safe this place is supposed to be. I know it's not as much as some places per capita but it gives people the impression that it doesn't happen here and it absolutely does. Armed standoffs, familial murders, domestic abuse, SA, sex trafficking, you name it, it happens here. Hell, the people who did 911 came through the Bangor airport. No one is safe, not anywhere. It can happen to anyone.

Also I think an actual introduction kind of the way you usually do them. Where you give an outline of the case you'll be talking about would be helpful as well. Just to give us a little bit of context.

Love to see you experimenting with new formats and new content! Just my opinion, but it might be nice to have a standard TIM episode first (and invite guests as bonus content) so we have a basic understanding of the case. The guests here kind of assume we're already familiar with the case and all the players, and they kind of jump around/go off on tangents. It might not be as disorienting if we already knew the case 😅 Also, some interviewers really get on my nerves because they never let the guests talk and they stick to asking very leading yes/no questions. I was glad to see you not fall into that pattern! But I think, in your case, you can take a slightly more active role to help guests stay organized and on track. In any case, thanks always for the fantastic content and all the effort you put into your work!

I LOVE their show. Been a This Is Monsters fanatic for years; haven’t missed many episodes, if any at all. But I related to your confusion when you mentioned the guests glossing over one of the murders. This was hard to follow and didn’t have the normally seamless, articulate and eloquent narrative they are (at least to me) known for. This will not deter me in any way from applauding your efforts to create/try out new content and/or formats. Nor will it affect my appreciation and eagerness to absorb the content TMM creates. It’s a humbling reminder to me, a layman and most def NOT a content creator, just how much time and effort goes into creating content that is not only easy to follow but as captivating as y’all have seemed to artfully master.

I really like his show, his content, his voice. I have gotten the feeling over the several months Jiles wants visual recognition and all that goes with content creator celebrity. He has a large following and few people knew his face. He pretended to be humble and say the algorithm forced him to go on camera. I think he wants to recognize for his work as anyone would. He has stated he was working on different channels and now this format. This wasn’t done well and poorly edited. I kind of feel like this is to grow his brand. He seems to be throwing any format out there to see what sticks. There are already several well done true crime interview crime analysis shows.

When I first saw his face it took me off guard because it wasn’t what I pictured. But does anyone’s voice ever mirror to the aesthetic? So the name of this episode is, "I knew an alleged and possibly framed murderer." And not to knit-pick but the details were a little fuzzy, as in, they probably should have had the court records.

They worked at a legit call center in Maine where in 2008/2009 (I couldn't quite tell) a guy named Richard Dwyer, who wasn't given a background check and should have been, was offering his pregnant co-worker (I forget her name now) his car for $500 bc she was looking for a car. He r@ped and murdered her and was sent to jail over it. In (I think) 2014 they had other coworkers basically getting girls who worked at that call center (and ones who didn't) to prostitute themselves and this brother (Buddy) and sister (forget her name now) pair ran this brothel outs of their apartment and Buddy took the fall for his sister killing a girl they also worked there and was one of their "women" named Christiana at said apartment.

I listen to your show a lot. I have an idea for this format. One thing that makes your storytelling special is you collect all of the data and present the story to the audience in a clear, chronological, concise manner. I think you should keep that format and cut in your interviews with the people like you cut in interrogation footage. This way you're still narrating and letting them share their story while keeping us engaged

@@thisisMONSTERS yes I agree with that completely. I think on this format it's very similar to a podcast and that makes sense since the other 2 are on a podcast. There was just a lot of bouncing around and hmming. It was chaotic and kind of hard to follow. Nothing was in order. I'm not trying to complain here. I appreciated it very much. I'm just speculating what would make it better in my opinion. The question is how much free time you have to straighten and wrangle all that information into something that is easier to digest. It takes a lot of time and effort, but I think overall if doable could make a very interesting alternate series. You're the big dog with the successful KZread so I'll leave it to you. Whatever you decide I'll be here to ride along, great idea for a new series on the channel.

What's funny is that I started watching this channel only a few weeks ago because I'd caught up on all the misery machine's videos and needed something else to watch/listen to between when they released new videos. So hearing you colab with them made me happy. I wish this episode with them had been longer, so that we would have gotten a bit more detail on each murder or that it had been 2 episodes, 1 for each murder. I'd love to hear you colab with them more. They did say they knew several people who'd committed murders and I've heard them talk about at least one other. Either wayni love this idea, talking to people who actually knew the criminals who you're telling us about.

I worked at a call center in the early 2000’s. My manager robbed my home and later confessed to me that he did it because he was addicted to crack. I never pressed charges cause frankly I didn’t have a whole lot of self worth back then, but I think the whole “Call center crime” angle in itself would be an interesting topic for a series… P.S. love misery machine duo. Hiii, I know you are trying to do something new but could you please also do this in story format. I absolutely love the way you narrate a story.

A brief overview of the case and then maybe doing a rehearsal so those giving their story can do so concisely but I otherwise enjoyed it and I like your idea. Like others are saying a little structure would be helpful, not plan out every word but a bit more of a foundation to start with and then building on that would be helpful for those of us with ADHD and such. Thanks for all you do!

I worked in Command Center at ACS when Richard Dwyer was there. Believe me when I say that he was a walking red flag. I also remember when his Partial-Day Absence sheet (you filled this out if you were clocking out to go to a doctor’s appointment and were planning to come back later in the day to finish your shift) went missing, because he gave it to me, but I got a phone call from a coworker a few days later asking where it went.

Jiles, I really like this idea and I think it has a lot of potential!! You should definitely keep making videos like this. Like others have said I think it would benefit from a bit more format… I got the gist of what happened but it was a little tough to follow at times because of how they jumped around (which is to be expected since most of us don’t tell stories linearly when we talk about things that happened to us.) It would help a lot if maybe every few minutes, you edit in a bit of your own narration to clearly summarize what’s been said so far… just a suggestion.

We had a murderer at my work too. Bro killed her, stuffed her corpse under a hotel mattress and tried to get a ride to Alabama from another co-worker but he backed out once he learned the killer had no money for the ride. They caught him 3 days later with a bus ticket to Mexico in his pocket

I like it. I feel like you guys were just getting started when you wrapped though. It’s be nice to see you thoroughly discuss the topic to its end with the different theories and people involved. I get this was kind of a teaser for their main video on their own channel. But this could be done with either topics that haven’t been covered yet, or ones that have already been out for a while.
