I just bought the FUJIFILM X-E1 in 2024 - THIS is why!

I've always loved the Fujifilm X-E1 camera. The early X-Trans 1 sensor is simply beautiful and produces stunning images. I have just bought the Fujifilm X-E1 in 2024 and in the short video I unbox the camera and explain why I made the purchase #fujifilmcamera #fujifilmxe1 #fujifilm

I've just re-joined the world of FUJIFILM, and I've gone for the original sensor. Hope you enjoy this video. 😊

You may move on from Fujifilm, but you really can't XD Welcome back to the group. I understand the reasons you had originally left it, and I agree, the tool shouldn't define us. But then, Fujifilm's equipment are just so fun to use, and the x-trans sensor is just amazing. And a few years ago, you did help me better learn how to use fujifilm, and if I remember correctly you had recommended the 16mm f/1.4

Welcome home chris!
Love this, my X E1 is still one of my favorites with all the gear I own. Great video and fully aligned on everything said here. 🎉
Awesome! XE-1 is my daily carry with the 7Artisan’s 35mm mk2- cheers!

Blimey, this came up on my youtube suggestions and I was really surprised as I had gone out and bought a used XE1 and XT1 back when you did your original youtube videos on them.. i still have mine, but I have the silver XE1 and probably it wasn't as new looking as yours but I still love it. Nice to know there will be some new adventures with the fuji's to watch... thank you.

Amazing - I’m in my 4th X-E camera now. Love these!
This channel is back to life for me.. 🎉❤ Fujifilm ROCKS!! 😎👌🏼
I have X-E1 and Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 - so compact and well-matched. What I really liked, you can walk with this combo all evening on the wrist strap with no problems, and you can switch from EVF to display any moment just by clicking 1 button. I feel that X-Trans I Provia has its own unique colors compared to XF10 sensor. I use BW very rarely, but I agree that it is very good.

nice - I'm going to set it up as if it's a monochrome sensor for a few shoots and see what I can get out of it.
Got myself a X-E1 with the kit lens back in October 2023 for the same reasons you got another one; shooting film-like black and white pictures. I'm earning my living with several Canon DSLRs, but the X-E1 is here just for fun. Bought a couple of prime lenses (16, 23 en 35mm) to experiment. If you happen to have some nice recipes for b/w shots, I'm in!

Glad to see you keeping in touch with your Fuji side - I have an XT2, XE2 & an X10 - Just got an Sirui Sniper 23 1.2 AF lens which I am using on my XE2 - It is sooo sharp and has lovely bokeh - worth checking out 😀

Hi Chris. You made a great video earlier about black and white photography on your X-E1. Remember that you came across the different "color" filters and which colors became darker and lighter in the black and white photos. I learned a lot from that. Thanks for that and good luck with your "new" camera. I'm still holding on to my old X-E1 myself. Greetings from Denmark.

Hi there, thanks so much! Loving this little camera…
Thanks for this video. As I mentioned previously I bought 2 X-T1’s based on your encouragement several months ago and still have them but I tried to push myself into using my X-E4 with Voigtlander because it seemed like a good setup, small camera with camera/lens communication but it just doesn’t feel that great in my hands. Based on this video you got me thinking maybe X-E1 is the answer and after checking the market I got out one of my X-T1’s again and there was the wonderful feeling I’ve been missing. I’m willing to give up the camera/lens communication. The X-T1 fits me perfectly and thanks to you I now understand I don’t need any of the technical advances beyond what I get with the X-T1.

I agree. I managed to by a new graphite version of the XT1 at the end of 2017 for $650 when the XT2 had been out for a while. As much as I was impressed by it then, I appreciate it even more in 2024. I eventually got the XT2 on sale in 2019. I thoroughly enjoy them both. I've realized that I don't require the most up to date features for my uses. I am really intrigued with the 1st generation X Trans sensor but the prices are so high on the XE1, Pro1, etc. Oh well.. Enjoy your T1s!!
Released in 2012, remarkable it’s so relevant to so many photographers in 2024.

Wow - must feel brand new!
I bought one a few weeks ago, haven’t had the 16mp sensor since I traded my x100T a couple of years ago. I thought I’d be using it with a 7 or Tt artisan or the odd vintage but surprisingly what I’m really happiest with is the Samyang 75 AF. Peaking isn’t very good on the X-E1 either which can make using the manuals a bit of a pain too which has made me appreciate how good the old sensor is with the AF lenses. Have fun! Steve
Good to know, that not only us, Pentaxians, are so much crazy about how the camera looks and feels in hands ;-)

Fuji's older cameras were always hidden gems. Its a shame their prices keep going up. I missed using a xe2 and pro2 after I moved over to Leica. I ended up re-buying a Xpro2 again because as much as I love my MP240, theres something about the XPro2 colours which Leica can't match up too.

I've had mine for a short while. It's the third X-E I've owned (3, 4, and 1), and for me, it's the best. I love the size, the sensor is excellent, and the Fuji philosophy from the beginning of the X system: all UI based on buttons and dials. The AF is terrible, and I always keep it in M mode and use back button focus. Paired with the Fuji 27mm pancake lens, it's the camera that always competes with my GR3 to see which one goes out for a walk.
He’s back! Let’s hav it!

Haha! 😀📷
I started with Fuji a few years ago when the X-E4 was released. Purely for the form factor and to try X-Trans sensor. Two years ago a got an excellent condition X-E1 on eBay for AU$250 (US$160) as nobody else bid on it. I now use it mainly set on B&W and just keep things simple with a Brighten Star 35mm f0.95 lens. The only issue is that focus with manual lenses is a bit tricky as focus peaking on the X-E1 is all but useless compared to the later models
I was lucky to get an XE4 a year back in near mint condition. Love it. Combo it with the Fuji 27mm pancake or a nice Zeiss m42 mount. So much character.

Any X-E and the 27mm pancake lens is a great combo!
New subscriber here, Chris, great video! Trying to get put of my Nikon D7000 system and thought I'd settled on the X-T20 (after choking on the price - €570!). Then I saw this video... just for fun I looked up the X-E1 on MPB. Still coughing a bit seeing €469. Recovering from a serious stroke and lightweight is essential and, like you, looking for B&W ideally without Lr-type post-editing. Would you still recommend the X-E1. based on this info? Looking forward to your coming videos.
@ChrisOrange

Hi there, so sorry about your stroke - hope you’re recovering well. Lightweight definitely a factor then. I love the X-E1 for its simplicity and I love that sensor for its more filmic looks on the images. So yes, I would certainly recommend it if you’re similar to me. If you were wanting more dials on top, then the X-T1 is also a good choice. Thanks! Chris

@@ChrisOrange Thanks very much Chris. You know, I'm still breathing, able to chat with friends and family (and KZreadrs) walk with the dog a few times a week, so I'm happy enough! Now, if I could just photograph more... I'm going to have to think about this some more as all of those cameras seem so interesting and the price is so close (well until we jump to the X-T2/20 range). It would certainly be easier if we had something like camera shops nearby to touch/hold them (not easy given living in the otherwise lovely southwest of France which adds a different perspective to the notion of 'small' towns and rural). But you never know! Cheers!
Nowadays all camera brands are excellent but it is interesting how only some and among which there is Fujifilm who manage to maintain interest in some products released even more than 10 years ago and even if they are technologically outdated, even if they still excellent nowadays.
I have a x-m1 coming in the mail. There is a film recipe that I love in the older x-m1 and x20/30 that just doesn't work for me in other Fuji cameras
Congrats on re-aquiring the XE1! If you don't mind, where did you find it and how much did you pay? Unfortunately these prices continue to creep upwards. Thanks😊

I blame you and Mike Brown for my Fujifilm addiction, It was Mike who first highlighted the virtues of the X-T1 (which I have two) I then found your channel and have since added the X-T2, X-E1, 3 x X-M1, X-A5 converted to IR and the X-T4 plus multiple prime lenses. The X-M1 I confess was an investment opportunity as i purchased them cheap on MPB. They will now buy them back for twice I paid but decided to hold on for now. So glad you went for the X-E1 mine is a rare white and black model.

Looking forward to buying my first ever digital camera, I've been shooting with film for the past couple years since getting into photography. The film prices are hurting me too much at the moment and need something I can rely on. I just CANNOT make my mind up between an xt1 with the trans II sensor and its colour rendering, or an X Trans III processor fuji camera with the 24mp and additional film simulations and quality of life features 🤔 Im tearing the last of my hair out here lol
Xe1 and xe2 were the best throughout cameras Fuji put on the market form factor size in hand feel full control a point and shoot interchangeable lens camera I wish for a modernised xe2 in the xe5 26mp latest software from xt5 it would be perfect till then I'll enjoy my xe2 and xpro1
I traded my XE1 last year because the XE1 selling market was so good, but till shooting an XT10 (xtrans2).

With the earlier models there’s a lower expectation of the tech so you don’t get frustrated with it. I like using MF lenses with the X-E1 and it feels like an old film camera
X-E3 for me.

Indeed - we’re on a similar journey! It’s fun!! 🤩
There's a lot wrong with them. The focussing was broken in today's terms. The image quality was good in a certain light range. If it was too bright, the colours would look like bad HDR. The form factor was great. If you had them set to bracketing, you would probably only get one or two brackets before they siezed up while it processed and flushed the buffer. The oldest Fuji I would go for would be the X-Pro2. The image quality is good, the colours don't look strange in hard light and the focussing is good enough. The colours were more slide like than film like. Later Fuji look more like colour negative film. I don't think the ergonomics of the X-Pro2 were bettered on any other fuji.
Super little camera. I had two of them and sold them for around £130 each, back when nobody wanted them. Granted, not as good condition as yours. They're like gold dust now 😆. I think maybe people fall into either the rangefinder or dslr-style camps, I always preferred the latter. It's just ergonomics, they're easier to hold imo and my first camera was one, so that probably has something to do with it. Enjoy again!👍
