I Interview the Brave Heroes Rescuing Fur Seals in Namibia

#ocn #oceanconservationnamibia #kpassionate
My incredible supporters over on Twitch helped raise over 10,000 US dollars to help the AMAZING team at Ocean Conservation Namibia, who rescue countless fur seals every year! Part of the event included a live interview with these amazing rescuers, including Naude Dreyer, his wife Katja, and Antoine! Here's what they had to say.
00:00 - Ocean Conservation Namibia
00:32 - Ocean Conservation Namibia Team
03:52 - Is Ocean Conservation Namibia Real?
07:15 - Shoes or No Shoes?
08:38 - How Does OCN Spot Entangled Seals?
12:19 - Ocean Conservation Namibia Salary
13:04 - Do Seals Bite the Rescue Team?
16:04 - How Did Ocean Conservation Namibia Start?
19:00 - Does Ocean Conservation Namibia Rescue Other Animals?
21:00 - How Many Seals Does OCN Rescue Every Year?
25:00 - How Ocean Conservation Namibia Grew on KZread
28:00 - Cutting the Line
Unfortunately, the charity for OCN is now closed. But it's not too late to help! You can also support Ocean Conservation Namibia and their efforts to rescue entangled fur seals by simply clicking on the links below!

As a marine biologist who has participated in the rescue and disentanglement of seals and sea lions, I have mountains of respect for OCN's hard work and dedication. I also know just how much goes into rescuing incredible marine mammals like seals and sea lions. A lot of expensive gear is required, from customized nets to specialized scissors specifically designed to cut things like the packing straps that are wrapped around the throats of these fur seals. These tools are not cheap. Nor is the gas required to reach the beaches and rookeries where these fur seals congregate.
Thousands of seals, sea lions, and other marine mammals become entangled in ocean trash every year. All too often, packing straps and other garbage finds its way into our oceans where it can cause devastating injuries to these marine mammals. The good news is that there are simple things you can do to help! Cutting loops on packing straps and other garbage can prevent marine life from becoming entangled in the first place. You can also recycle, reduce, and reuse to limit the amount of garbage in the first place!

Ur wrong klotylda.!! I like listening to Antoine anytime he talks & I wanted to hear him talk more. He's a thinker & he was very fair to give the other 2 Team members the time to talk. My husband & I would love ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕 💘 so much to go to Namibia 🇳🇦 & go out w/Team OCN onto Pelican Point, but, we don't want to be in their way. We can be w/them in Spirit, donate, buy their merchandise & pay to watch their upcoming movie "Cutting The Line". We have already told so many of our friends who also Subscribed, told their families & friends & will pay to watch their upcoming movie "Cutting The Line". God Bless 🙌❤ U Team OCN 🙏 & Ur families & the Seals 🦭. P.S. If I could get a mailing address I'd like to send U a case of HIBICLEANSE it's what's in ALL Hospital ER's. I absolutely love these rescue videos. You guys are incredible! Couple questions… Have you four guys ever run track in high school? Because from my vantage point, it looks like you fellows are so darn fast, especially Densel, & Tony? Also, I know you’ve already heard before that Tony talks so sweetly to the seals, but then again so does Wally. He’s always telling them, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry”, so sweet. Second question.. can you get Tony to let his hair down? All the ladies in my family thinks he is just so darn cute! Truly thanks for all you do.

I found this on OCN's channel, but truly believe that instead of linking your video, they ABSOLUTELY have to mirror this, and show it as one of their own uploads with all credits to you of course! I too am feeling extremely REWARDED, having posted comments about OCN's incredible work on a mere handful of videos over the past week to 10 days, and during this shortest time, have seen their SUB count go up by an incredible 13K SUBS!!! 💪🙏🥳💥🤣🥰🎉 That's absolute PROOF that it takes so little to help these beautiful souls GROW! THANK YOU and all your loyal subs for helping out as much as you do as well. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU! 🙏🥳😍 Much love and respect from Durban 🌍🦁🐘🦏 KwaZULU Natal ~ South Africa 💖💞🥰

I really love what you guys do and how you go about it. Its fantastic Naude has taken what he knows from his fathers experience and has now put it into practice in Namibia. Its good the govt is aware of what your doing but as a third world government I hope that doesn't ever change for you. Its good you brought up the parcel issue. I am sure many many people want to help and choose to help you their way - its unfortunate its a third world country and has the accompanying issues. People should be encouraged to just provide funds to you and its great you can get paid by KZread for these amazing videos. It has to better if you just buy what you need to do this job. I understand Katja and Naude has the kayak business - of which I know nothing - but I can see it may be a way forward to just keep doing what your doing and then just pay yourself a living wage from the incoming monies. Maybe COVID provided a way for you to understand how much the environment needs your team to do this. I wouldn't encourage any other people to do visits and want to do volunteering etc. The team you have is fantastic and I have not once seen or heard any one of them taunt or be nasty to a seal at all. If cowboys start doing this too (for kicks or money) that will change and so its better if Katja and Naude and their immediate team keep a tight rein on this. I have to say that Denzil is a bloody startled gazelle once he gets running. Amazing and that Antoine is not far behind him either. He can move too really well. Wally and Francois are very respectful to the seals too. I will contribute when I can and wont ever send you a parcel. I do think you as a team and group of like mind ed individuals can progress this in a respectful manner.

Is tagging the seals you are able to rescue a possibility in the future? It seems that would help to identify those who have old scars at a distance. Also it would be nice to have a waterproof antibiotic antiseptic spray you can initially apply to some of the more drastic wounds; possibly ease the discomfort while the sea water complete the healing process. Keep up the good work.

Here in California there are 2 teams for the entire state to do rescues, any privateer would have all kinds of issues trying to make rescues with the government and the local authorities, they're a hindrance more than a help. Thanks for raising so much money for them, they don't do many livestreams and it would be nice to do more.

The comment was made by Naude that they've never found a seal that tgey rescued dead on the beach. It made me wonder how many died at sea and became part of the "circle of life" as the bodies were consumed to feed other sea Iife.

I know, even if that content was a long time ago...I still want to give my prediction. Hahaha! Anyhoo, it's just great to know that there are still people around the world who are trying to make a difference. Conservationists, rescuers (like yourself Miz K) and others like myself who in one way or another are doing the best they can to preserve our natural environment for the next generation to appreciate...We need to save our Mother Earth...Thanks KPassion and more power to you!

You can find it in my VODs I believe on Twitch. However we cut this one this way because for some reason the sound became out of sync and gets difficult to watch the longer it goes.

@@KPassionate and my favorite videos are those where the seals are in no hurry to run away from the rescuers, especially when the kids want to get to know them: sniffing, examining, waiting for Tony to scratch their back а мне больше всего нравятся те видео, где тюлени не спешат убегать от спасателей, особенно когда малыши хотят знакомиться с ними: обнюхивают, осматривают, ждут, когда Тони почешет им спинку 🥰
