Thank you, exactly! All of these celebrities are coming out with their own "inclusive" shapewear/clothing/lingerie brands for "all shapes/sizes," but what portion of the American population (or international pop, for that matter?) can afford to spend _hundreds_ of dollars on these items that are usually supposed to be worn _under_ your clothes? All the hype about inclusion, diversity and "unapologetically feeling good about yourself (again?)" is nice and all, but at the end of the day, the overwhelming majority of us are still going to target and buying Assets for $17. It's not really inclusive, it's just the same exclusion and exploitation in a different flavor.

The subscription aspect just threw every chance of me buying out the window. Fabletics stole so much money from my mom when I was younger. We called everyday to cancel, and either no one answered, or they charged us again even though they claimed it was canceled. Then I went through the same thing with Fenty. No answer for weeks. Then the person on the phone couldn’t take no for an answer. I know that’s what they’re coached to do but GODDAMN it is MY money. If I want to cancel it should be as easy as “I’d like to cancel my account please.”

as someone who spent 5 years selling actual shapewear, this does not resemble shapewear to me. it looks more to me like athletic wear. just cause it's tight and made of spandex, doesn't mean it's doing anything to 'shape' you in the right places. shapewear is meant to be worn underneath your clothing, and make your clothing fit over your body smoother (it's basically just to smooth out rolls/lumps/bumps). the waste band on the blue one isn't good for shapewear because it cuts in and creates a bigger line than if you weren't wearing it. personally, I think lizzo could've done better.

I have an oddly shaped curvy body that most shapewear can’t handle, and her branding of body inclusivity made me think there was finally something that would work for me. If you have to pay a "monthly subscription" to get the "VIP price," then the VIP price doesn't exist. It's a deceptive marketing tactic to make items look more affordable than they actually are - because even if you _have_ the subscription, you're still paying more than that sticker price in essentially "hidden fees." The whole practice is predatory and deceptive, and it goes to show that Fabletics and similar companies are literally built on exploiting consumers for their own profit. And, most of the time? The products aren't even that good.

Plenty of people forget to cancel or skip on those as well, but I don't see anyone calling those scams. If you're an adult you're responsible for remembering to manage your various subscriptions, and Fabletics literally gives you five days every month to skip. It's so refreshing to see an influencer who actually is ok with their body not being perfect, but you also don't lean into that fact in such a way where it's part of your identity online (like the ones who are like "i'm fat but i'm totally ok with it and you should just totally love your body too", etc). You are like the epitome of body neutrality and how it SHOULD be, where you try on shapewear, but you also don't sit here and down your body over and over, but you also don't sit here and act like everyone is always going to be ok with their body 100% of the time and never say anything bad about it. Body positivity can tow the line on toxic positivity, where any negative thought is pushed away and you feel shame over it, etc. but body neutrality is just saying, yeah my body isn't perfect and I don't love it or hate it. That's how it should be and I love to see it.

Then realised it had the subscription/VIP deal and I decided to do it anyway and then cancel my membership once I got my stuff. And oh my god it was annoying and embarrassing having to CALL them to cancel it. And they kept asking questions about why I was cancelling and trying to give me other deals and tell me about how I can just pause instead of cancelling. And I kept telling them I can't afford the subscription and how I forget to pause things (happened to me with Function of Beauty) and they STILL tried to convince me and I had to get quite rude in order for them to simply cancel it. Eventually, probably after a 10 minute back and forward they cancelled it, after the call ended I almost felt shamed and guilted for their shitty business idea. Never again and would never recommend. Their items were decent but I can get the same without the anxienty trip elsewhere.

I literally don’t get how celebrities get away with this shit. There’s absolutely nothing special about her brands clothes. And you can buy WAY better quality clothes for less than half the price, almost everywhere. They’re already rich and famous, so I don’t see why tricking people with low quality clothes and subscription-scams, are necessary. 😡😤 ps. How can you brand yourself as “inclusive” when your price range is like that?!? I mean they take a step forward with the sizing (and even that is not very inclusive) and then a huuge step back again with the pricing. 😨🤨😒

I feel uniquely qualified to comment on this video because I’ve bought and worn a lot of shapewear. The fabric is thicker (and firmer) over the stomach because that’s the area where you want more compression. Often that compression will extend a bit further down (maybe one or two more centimeters). The sheerer fabric over the legs has less shaping. Really good shapewear will have compression all the way down the legs but sheer out on the butt cheeks to give you that booty. The issue I can see with Lizzo’s design is that it gives you hip dips and many women are trying to avoid that. The clear plastic is indeed designed to stop things moving, but specifically to stop the hem line rolling over which is one of the most annoying things that can happen with shapewear pants particularly. The body suit looks basic AF. You can get simple compression wear like this a lot cheaper. The price she is charging I would look for a lot more.

This is not completely true. Logistics and textile manufacturers are two completely different companies usually and celebs don’t need to deal with them either way. 99% of manufacturers have already made styles that their customer brand pickes to be made, then there are shop companies that sell the stuff. She could’ve picked another dealer easily that would do all the same work, but which wouldn’t scam their customers with those subscribtions. I’m pretty sure this type of dealer just made a very nice propose to her, better than «normal” type of direct online shop would, because they make more easy money without having to do/sell much. Aka she picked most luckily the $ instead of dignity.

Lizzo went through fabletics because it's easy to produce and she doesn't have to run it. With fabletics celebs don't have to do much but worry about promo and design input. They aren't sourcing fabrics, managing logistics or paying for marketing. It's like fashion lite/made easy. That's why they all go through larger corporations, most of the artists with these fashion brands like Ivy Park, Fenty X, Yitty are more so money making then fashion companies.

When you’re thinking about celebrities who are really involved Rihanna’s now defunct line Fenty owned by LVMH(Louis Vuitton, Moët & Hennessy) Rihanna seemed to creatively driving the designs. Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen’s line they created The Row is probably the most successful. Maybe Victoria Beckham‘s line & even Yeezy by Kanye. We really need to do our part as consumers and don't buy these scams. Naomi is right, not everyone will read all the fine print, and when we buy these products it gives them the green light to keep doing what they are doing. It's so sad that they are using Lizzos plus size fan base, as a cash grab, all while feeding on, and feeding into your body insecurities. That totally goes against Lizzos whole "body positivity" thing, making it seem like a fake cash grab itself.

After I got wise, I unfollowed all the influencers that were paid to promote it because it would just make me so angry that I got duped. There is a huge difference in building a company with capital behind it from the ground up and being the face of a company that is already well established and using the name of the person to push sales. Now there are half decent companies that make good collabs with an image or IP but you have to do a little looking into the company before hand. As consumers we have to unfortunately in some respects, really pay close attention to what we are buying. I've heard finance experts online call this day and age a scammers paradise. Even big names will attach themselves to less then stellar business practices and outright scams.

  • @Olivia.longname

All these collabs are a cash grab. I’m sure Lizzo answered a few emails about what they could offer, took her contract to her team and signed away and then completed the marketing to do’s within the contract. Not attacking Lizzo, just that’s how these large companies do business.

When your waist is soft or larger than your hips/ribcage, clothes don't stay in place. That's why the bodysuit to keep a shirt from untucking and the sticky band to keep the two piece from rolling.

I'm always kinda disappointed when brands advertise their inclusivity and then the sizes only go down to XS. Cause people who need XXS and XXXS also want clothes that fit snugly. (Speaking from experience) Edit: it's very embarrassing how many people don't understand the problem. Inclusitivity means to include everyone, saying that skinny people should shop at childrens sections, shouldn't be that skinny anyways, don't have problems finding clothes, and should shut up about inclusitivity because it was created for bigger people only is EXCLUSIVE! .... it's seriously sad because everything I've listed here is written in the replies by various people. Go look up what inclusitivity actually means before you comment passive aggressively. Thanks :)

I ordered several times at Fabletics, they do ship to germany, if you go to the german site. And i ordered Yitty too, but didn’t like it, as I am a plus size type of person and the underwear always rolled up and the body kind of cut into the skin, despite me ordering one size up. I didn’t like it at all. I don’t like the membership at all, and I think it is annoying. And it is pricey as hell, and I wouldn’t recommend it. You never will need that much sports or lounge wear. But if anyone wants to go get that kind of clothing and is ok with the membership, then go for it.

My biggest issue is that she claims to be size-inclusive, but much like other brands that claim this she really isn't. Her so-called 6x, is just a true 4x. It's so fucking sad and annoying. As a fat woman, I personally don't want or need shapewear. I'm going to be fat regardless, so I'll pass, but she should be ashamed of herself for this lame-ass size chart.

The only brands that make anything that plus size is Torrid, etc. Being size inclusive is hard as it is because sizes that float into an extra large area is difficult. For every brand the extra larger are different, so you as a consumer should know that when you purchase anything tbh. Not to mention it’s only been released a little over a month ago I’m sure if people put out that it’s not fitting as it should it will be mended. I’m fat also and I love shapewear, it’s adds a little more confidence to me especially if I want to look a certain way in clothing. You came out harsh for something I’m assuming you didn’t buy based off what you said. You should be ashamed for trashing on something you didn’t even purchase

Also people are fat in different ways! My fat is mainly just on my thighs and a bit of my stomach, but a friend has theirs solely on their stomach. Size inclusive should be shape inclusive too, if that makes sense! You can't give a round person shapewear to try to give them curves if they don't really have any to begin with. Clothes depend on your own body! There's not many clothes than can change your body shape wearing them unless it's corset or something

for a brand advertising itself on inclusivity i was super disappointed with the sizing ): in normal clothing i'm around an XL or 2x, ordered a bra in 2x based on their size chart on the website and it was TIGHT. exchanged it and decided to try the largest size they had, 6x i believe, and it was STILL so tight on me. it gives me the worst rolls around my armpits and i could barely even notice a difference between it and the 2x. i could only return it for store credit and there was nothing else from the site i wanted so i just kept it and now only wear it when i have no other clean bras lmao. it was so disappointing, ive bought bras from target for a fraction of the price that were soooo much better
