Genuinely sad that she was never taught how the system works. You get money BACK if you work minimum wage in most cases. How a person can live their entire life and never once be told "hey make sure you do your taxes and get a couple hundred to a thousand dollars back". She's only not doing them because she FEARS the government or something. Just really misinformed.

You get money back if you're employed and choose to have your taxes removed. If you're self employed or have any other stream of income, you're expected to do the math and calculate your own taxes and submit that money to the government. If the government audits you, and you did your math wrong or paid nothing at all, they will enforce the correct tax amount or you will face penalties.

That's a complete myth. You are paying for people who are currently receiving social security. It's not tucked away for your future like a 401k is. Your paying taxes today has no direct relationship with your social security payment. You can go your whole life not earning income, not paying taxes, and still receive social security.@@fish.e

Since she makes minimum wage (in NY like me) it is below the national average income. Therefor once she files for taxes and is transparent about her earnings then she could qualify for government benefits. So filing is totally in her favor. If she reports her (tips) cash then it would count as her making more which would help if trying to qualify for a rental or a loan. If not I would say get those babysitting gigs cash only.

The poorest people benefit the most through public taxes. Health care, transportation are largely for the poor. Higher wages would have private healthcare or private transport or not have to go out as much for work either working less hours or get a company car. Taxes are good for the public but yeah they just suck.
I came from a year old video, to comment for a more likely chance of you to see. T tell you to articulate more, but I see in a year's time, you've grown as a presenter. I appreciate that, and I love you. ❤

As I understand it, when you live in a country you commit to obey to the rules of paying taxes and expect to receive some services and/or money back. Those are water treatment, maintenance of the cities, public schools, healthcare (if your country has it), among many others. They also change throughout your life: when you're a kid you receive everything and give nothing, students borrow a lot, young adults get some push but start to contribute and so on. From a societal point of view, I understand that taxes are there to protect the most vulnerable demographics, prepare the economy for the future years, or even repair the past ones. I don't know about politics or economics taxes, of course there is so so much more to it, but even if it hurts in the pocket quite a lot (Netherlands in my case), I am grateful to know that those moneys are going to fair purposes. Maybe I live in my own utopia, but I think that protesting by not paying taxes is going to do favours to no one.

I'd say you should go make sure you understand the financial system, when countries came into being separate from kingdoms, what the difference is, and how the world actually works vs how you think it does. As a kid you don't receive from the government you receive from your parents, and the absence of good parents can't be fixed no matter how much tax money gets thrown at it.

With time comes wisdom and with wisdom comes the ability to adapt to change and more skills of how to handle the world, and more skills on how to take proper care of YOURSELF. To be fair, there are some legal immigrants who are passionate about the border. Their sentiment is they came through legally so other people should go the proper route to come here. If we don't keep track of who's here we can't efficiently make sure we have the proper resources and representation for states and communities. Like if we think there's only a million people in a county instead of 2-3 million we wouldn't have the emergency services to help everyone who might be in need. Not to mention we need to keep track of the state population because it affects the number of representatives that state has in Congress.
