I Have a New Dressing Gown!
I finally found time to get back to this project and I'm so pleased I did. It came together really well and is my new favourite item of clothing!
I like it both sides out and I have to say, I think there will be pockets before too long. You know my theory of pockets? A garment is useless without them. So, pockets it is.

I followed your link to purchase this beautiful fabric on Etsy to make my own dressing gown (which I’ve always called a “robe”, but my grandmother from Scotland called a dressing gown). I am sewing it by hand which is soothing and soothing is what the doctor ordered since I live in the United States and in my 70 years have never witnessed what is going on here today. Yours is my absolute favorite channel to watch on KZread and I wish you were my next door neighbor!

That looks great on you. Love from Holland.
I think you are one of the most creative people I have ever met. I so admire the way you never let the amount of work involved in making your project deter you from working on and finishing ít.

I am the same, a long project is like a good long book. Plus usually a long project is something that would be expensive…so I end up with some beautiful for fewer $$$.
Beautiful, Kate!! Swan away....you've earned it. Thanks for taking us along the journey from gorgeous squares to gown.

In case no-one else mentioned it, Kate has a channel all about her garden also🥳 I was having an awful day and then i saw that you had a new video for us all. And then I read a whole lot of comments. What a wonderful place the LGS is. All positive, happy comments about 'our' lovely, creative, sharing Kate. Thank you ALL so much for making me feel better. I adore what one person called your leisure gown. I feel that name fits it best. ❤ from Western Australia

What’s the name of the garden channel?
I agree. The two layers of fabric gives just a nice amount of warmth, structure and flowiness! Beautiful, as always, and an extra cheerful way to float through the gray days of winter. 🌞
I like that you've decided against the wadding. That lovely soft cotton should be allowed to flow around you like a fabric river. I was hollering "Right sides together" and you heard me. And in the U.S. it's 'bag lining. I'd leave a gap at the bottom to turn it-- cause figuring out if you could turn it thru the sleeves makes my head want to explode. So pretty.... thanks for all your sharing.
Oh, Kate! That is gorgeous. All those pinks and designs. Absolute beautiful. Pockets--absolutely.

I'm always so amazed when people can make things like this without any sort of pattern. It turned out so cute! I love it!
Haha, how fun is that! Kate you're the coolest lady on the internet 😊
Hello Kate! I love to watch your videos, especially while I sew. You make me think of my mother in law who passed away in April at 94. We got along so well like you and Anna. She often had numerous projects going -- quilting, piecing, knitting and embroidery. She was creative, kind and so enthusiastic about any form of art much like you. I miss her so much. Watching your videos helps to keep her close. (This is not to say you are old. I'm a few years older than you!) Thank you so much for sharing your world with me!!
Wow, a truly stunning dressing gown! So pleased you added pockets, I think all clothing should have pockets, pockets are a necessity in my book 🧵🍂
In America we would call this garment a “robe” or a “house coat/dress.” I love that you take your time to return to started projects. I do the same thing. Creativity is not always “linear.”

Dressing gown is light. Worn over pajamas. House coat or duster same idea, over clothes. Robe can be thicker. For warmth or after bath. Bed coat is shorter, waist length so can be worn in bed, as the name implies 😁
yes, i think you will appreciate the comfort of the triangle under the arm. What a wonderful, beautiful garment1
I don’t think I’d ever wear anything else if I had a dressing gown like that. The colors are beautiful, and the details like the patch pockets and hanging loops make it pleasant and practical to use. Lovely work!
Kate that is why our project are put on hold. We can then change our mind. Going to be a beautiful gown. Lovely to see you on KZread again.
You have inspired the world once more MS. Kate!❤ This is another Joyful project......simply DELIGHTFUL! So enjoy this and every other that you might have up your sleeve🎉
I love how it's constructed like an 18th century men's banyan or a woman's bed gown from the same period.
The underarm triangle was a brilliant solution. Many colors makes for a cheery wear. I am toying with making myself a "couple" aprons rich in my favorite fabrics. I have been thinking all of them will do just fine. Your dressing gown proves it. Happy week, Kate.
Beautiful! In a traditional kimono the extra fabric bit on the sleeves is made into the pockets. So handy and nothing ever falls out.

My grandmother had a plethora of big huge linen napkins, and I basically did the same thing, but I made a caftan because I didn’t want to cut any of them. So it’s was put together with safety pins to begin with and then I sold it with red thread, so I could see it just to make sure that it fit rider was not too long or whatever and it turned out very similar to what you were doing except mine wasn’t opened up in the middle and of course I never wear it cause I don’t wanna get it dirty makes me wonder if I want to make something like what you’re doing so it will not show the dirt if I wear it.

Loved the way you made the beautiful dressing gown and the thought process on how to put it together. Pockets will always be needed. X ♥
I love the fact that you have unfinished projects. It’s always so inspiring to pick them up again with some new & creative ideas. Your robe is outstanding…the colours are joyful! 🇨🇦💕🥰

many in the US call it a "bathrobe". I love the idea.
What a fabulous dressing gown. I love those vibrant colours.
It is so beautiful!! I just love all the fabrics.

It bagged out beautifully, Kay. What an adorable dressing gown! Well done! I am of Indian origin and I am proud of handblock printed Indian fabrics. My heart sings when other people love them too and make with/wear them. Thank you.

Good evening, from Philadelphia. Me too! People express annoyance when my projects aren't done yet, which I find silly considering they're my projects, not their projects 🙃
I love sewing with you and gardening with you and just sharing your family. What a joy to watch your work. you are a treasure. Now hopping over to watch the pond / mud video. Thank you for all of your videos.
Kate, you are such a blessing! Keep doing you❤
This is absolutely a stunner! You have inspired me with so many projects, and this has moved to the top of the list! Stay blessed, my friend, and may you find comfort with your new dressing gown!
Here in the states, we simple call a dressing gown a robe. Something to the wear between bathing and dressing. In the winter, it might also provide an extra layer on top of pajamas. I love pockets in a robe. (A place to tuck tissues.) I also prefer three-quarter length sleeves. They don't dip into my morning tea. Enjoy your creation!♥
What a great result! I’m mainly a knitter these days so it’s inspiring to see the equivalent of a scrappy project using fabric. (I guess not truly scrappy, but a similar idea!) I really appreciate how you bring us along with you as you plan and scheme and then tweak and change your plans. It’s interesting to have insight into how someone else processes things. Thanks to you and Anna for all of the work you put into the videos!
I love this. I especially love that you created it without any sort of pattern. You have wonderful creative abilities and are an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing this with everyone on the lgs.
How lovely, one side for spring summer the other for autumn winter. ❤😊
Hi Kate, I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to get back into quilting. I quilted about 30 plus years ago (how has that many years passed in the blink of an eye) and have just been gifted the quilting paraphernalia from an old friend whose wife died, so now I’m back down another rabbit hole. What fun! Thanks for the inspiration. Deb from Balala Australia
I love it.... its reversable...2 dressing gowns in one. I love your videos and all your sewing creations.
Dressing gown = robe for USA 😊. Reversible? That would be so cool. Love the addition under the arms. LOVE IT!
Yes, a tie and patch pockets. Very exciting. I agree they are beautiful fabrics. You inspire us to just give it a go. How hard can it be really? 😅😊
It’s lovely the way you invite us in to watch you make projects. Makes one feel really included!❤
OH YES!! Bravo, its lovely. I would not want to get out of it. And maybe, while your sitting in it, drinking your tea, you could pick up a bit of the robe, aka dressing gown, and boro stitch a bit of it together. Looks like that fabric is just made for it.
In USA dressing gown = housecoat, bathrobe, robe, (older term: duster). I enjoy your introduction of 'Kate speak' sewing terms such as 'gussety things'. You are a treasure. Thank you for another lovely visit, Kate 💜 (We're having a cool, rainy spell here in south Texas today ... It's only 96*F ! 😁)

I haven't heard of a duster as a term for a dressing gown, etc.--I've only heard it as a long coat for outerwear! Usually in refernce to a more western style, too. Is it regional, do you know?

What wonderful timing! I’m going to dress as Cinderella’s fairy godmother for Halloween to my daughter’s Cinderella. I have the hood figured out, but have been struggling with making the robe. It won’t be out of squares (or maybe it will), but the overall shape will be very much like yours. I’ve decided to go ahead and make a functional robe I can use later. So turning the lining side out will be my costume! Your video has helped me immensely! Thank you!

Wonderful! I started a square pieced dressing gown with all sorts of leftover fabrics. Because they weren't gorgeous fabric like yours i was disappointed with it... until I chopped all the squares into random rectangles & sewed it back together. Much better. Thank you for your inspirational videos.
I've been wondering about this project. I made myself a summer robe from donated bedsheets! Also several summer skirts. I'm a hand sewer, so that was a lot.

It's always great to let a project 'breathe' for a moment. Once again, the humble square gives a soft, flowing, beautiful result. ❤❤❤❤
♥♥Kate it is you 100% the smile on your face was so enjoyable and we could tell how happy you were making it and figuring out how it was constructed.....just priceless♥♥ from Alberta, Canada.
😊You have the perfect opportunity to use four squares to construct two pockets that could be slipped into the front seams and pressed to the inside. When you ran your hands down the front, I could imagine your hands disappearing into the hidden pockets. On the inside robe you could sew pockets on the outside.
It looks lovely Kate 😊
Beautiful Kate, it's just beautiful! I suspect you'll be in your dressing down much longer now. I would want to stay in it all day. Anna, your selection of music at the end of the video is calm and artistic. Thank you, both!
Beautiful! I love this dressing gown, the fabrics, and your enthusiasm for the whole process!
Love your new dressing gown...such pretty fabric and easy sewing pattern. Thank you, Kate, for all your content.
Yes, bagging out Kate 😀 It's very pretty, lovely to watch.
Thank you Kate. It has been so enjoyable following the creation of this dressing gown. It has turned out to be so special and unique, just like you. 👏😊💕
That would make a great holiday gift for someone in the colors that person likes.
How clever and lovely. I can tell by your smile that you are delighted. Functional and pretty!
Kate, that was so much fun to see the joy you have in creating something from an idea sparked by a movie and pin interest! We also call that a dressing gown in the USA, but many things do get lost in translation from country to country. Your "now we're cooking with gas" was a hoot! @@deniseblake6214 what is the specific distinction of each...you have piqued my interest. I just say bathrobe. I just 'won' a SpongeBob Squarepants neon yellow fleece job for xmas, at a party. I hate sponge bob & I hate fleece. I would lean more towards what Kate has or a flannel robe. But my kids thought it was so hilarious that I ended up with this Thing, that I kept it & wear it daily just to bug them. My younger daughter said that it makes me look "too commercial" & she hates it. 🤣 It has done its job!
Absolutely lovely!!! Great job.. I love it!

It’s been a pleasure to watch this process and then to see the beautiful result. Wear it in good health Kate. It’s perfect!!!
It's great to know that you 'don't finish things' but get round to it eventually. Speaking of unfinished business, I have been looking forward to seeing the filled pond. Love your channel, homely home and creativity. 🐝
Kate, absolutely beautiful. Each square so vibrant. I like the fact that it falls loosely around the body. Hope you wear it often.
I live in Eastern Canada, and we call these "House Coats" and we wear them in the house over our PJ's, and into the garden. Coming in and out of the shower, we call them "Bath Robes" and we only use them when going from the bathroom to the bedroom after washing up. They are different types of 'coats'. Your fabric choices are wonderful!
