A quick finish with my Indian BLOCK PRINTED fabric scraps!

After much thought I finally decided what to make with the Indian block printed fabric I have leftover from the trip I took to India, many years ago. This came together so quickly, and I spent a lovely day stitching on this a few weeks ago. I can't wait to use this picnic blanket in the garden with Agnes this summer!

@@bethanyrosebanks2882 A thread bunny is a scrap of fabric you use before and after chain piecing your quilt blocks or strips together so that the tails are “pre-handled” before starting your next batch of chain piecing or strips. I learned about them from Kate here on her videos and they are AWESOME in how easy they make dealing with threads.

I rarely comment, but I do look forward to your videos. Today, I am unable to resist. While you were speaking, I suddenly realized I was nodding, "Yes", and making many comments! I too have loads of scraps to use up. My sister and I sew dresses for an orphanage in Africa and I take the scraps to make quilts for the grandmother's that care for these children. It is so much fun to work with scraps. I haven't done that many, but do when time and energy permit. So enjoy your content!🇨🇦

I love the modern hand quilting. When I was first doing hand quilting , it was 12 stitches to the inch! I did 4 king size, 130" x 140". My step father made me a quilting frame, it had rollers to advance the quilt as I did about 10". I have 2 of those quilts, 1 was worn out, 1 just gone(?), i now have some of my quilts machine quilted, & a great many of the tops i make, I tie & sell inexpensively or gift/donate. I sew 2 - 10 hours about 300+- daily. I admit to being a (possible), hoarder of fabric. Batiks are an addiction for me. That's fabric I design quilts fir me alone. If anyone saw my studio ( 12 x 14 ft.), they might be tempted to have me "committed "! I love the life you have created, and the support your family does for you. Enjoy spring.

I was so happy to see this scrappy quilt. I have a similar collection of pillow ticking fabrics that I've been wondering what to do with and now, I have a project in mind thanks to you. But FIRST, I must finish the current quilt I'm working on that you also inspired. The hexie quilt you have been working on for Agnes was just so pretty that I had to try my hand at a similar quilt. So far, I've got about 900 1" hexies sewn together and will continue on with another 400 to 500 before I'm happy with the size. Thank you for all the inspiration and love you share with us!

I can fold up the quilt and set it aside for a while knowing nothing is shifted before I quilt it. I love scrappy quilts, so your Indian stripes are a delight. My backs are often multipieced as well. It makes me happy to use up cloth that would be wasted. Hugs to you. ))

I'm a convert. Since I've tried spray basting, I love it. It holds the layers together so well, even with a lot of manipulating, hand quilting in a hoop, and on the machine. You can even pull the layers apart and restock without respraying.

And what I love is that you need only use the barest minimum and it stays together even if you fold it and put it away to quilt another day!

I have several yards of homespun fabrics (sometimes referred as primitive) that I want to use in a quilt very similar to yours as a caravan quilt when sitting out by the evening fire. Hope mine turns out as lovely as yours. Thank you, Kate for sharing your journey of peaceful life.

Hello, Kate! Such a beautiful way to use your Indian fabrics. I love the idea of using quilts as picnic and beach blankets. Fabulous scrappy border! Thank you, and stay well, Muskoka ON 🇨🇦

It reminds me of my found quilt top that I quilted and use for a tablecloth. I love it.❤

OMGosh...I have thrown out hundreds of "thread bunnies"....I wish I could have seen/have had insight to see them as pieces of fabric for future art quilt projects...LOL thanks for showing and mentioning about them. 👍

What a delightful project. And it looks like you've already quilted and bound it! Some projects just won't wait for their turn, will they? 😉

I love the idea of seeing "the hand of the maker". I hope that is what folks see when they look at my imperfect, intuitively pieced , joyfully made quilts! I'm so glad to have found you and the Lime Green Sofa community. Thank you for sharing your world, your process, your joy of making.....and I enjoy my thread bunnies, too !!

Kudos on your "organic" indian block fabric table topper This is my favorite way of using all sorts of beautiful fabrics I guess I'm still a grandchild of the Great Depression as I hate to waste anything . Stay well😊

This would be wonderful quilted in the style of kawandi pieces, especially as it’s Indian fabric. With the individual blocks quilted in different directions.
