I am a self-taught quilter. I learned during the pandemic, alone, watching videos. Nobody in my family quilts. My Mom was English, and died many years ago. A part of me likes to think of you as my second Mom, teaching me not only how to quilt but also to find joy in these uncertain times. Thank you.

You're so lucky to have such a wonderful daughter-in-law. She's so sweet with you. And of course you with her! 😁
Oh my goodness that beautiful curtain! 🤩
Just a note: Terry Rowland is from my neck of the woods -- Alberta, Canada. She's a member of the Canadian Quilters Association and a well-known teacher in these parts. I *thought* when you mentioned her name that I recognized it, and I was right! I've never met nor taken a class from her, but she is very talented and creative, and popular with guilds who've had her as a teacher and/or workshop leader. Thanks for mentioning a Canadian as your inspiration! 😊

Smallest useful piece is bigger than 1/2 inch because there are two 1/4 inch seams. Anything bigger than 1/2 inch will show, even if its just a sliver. I really like this little square set. Thanks for showing it to us. )))

Me too ! I'm a bit fanatical about organisation in general & have been stocking my epp hexies by colour in shallow boxes like Terry Rowland but love her tip for firstly stocking groups of harmonized colour blocks between flannel backed boards. Ingenious !

You are such a blessing in these bleak days. I so wait for your videos as they bring me great joy. Stay warm! Peace to you and your family.
I enjoy watching you so much. You remind me of a dear friend I made when I lived in the Midlands in the late 60s and early 70s. My husband was in the USAF and we were there 4 1/2 years. I’m not able to quilt right now due to an unknown ailment. But I watch you and others happily.
That is totally your style. How cool to find a new fun way to quilt after doing so all these years. I'm looking forward to the progress as you fit it in with all your other crafting, gardening, baking, living! :D What a treat to have found your channel.
What a wonderful idea! Love that Anna has become a quilter! Would love to see a natural dye series next year.
Kate I happened to come across Terry 2 weeks ago. Her video is lovely. Cannot wait to hear what you say
There are three videos by Terry Rowland, and the third one for this quilt has a SUPERB method to keep all the blocks in their decided order WHILE you sew them ))))))) I'll be using this method for other quilts too. Brilliant!! PInning NOT required !! Another quantum leap in my quilting education. Thanks Kate ))))
It's fortunate that there's no limit to the contagiousness of quilting! Have fun and enjoy you two!
I'm not a quilter. But I love watching you're process. Thank you for letting me tag along. 😊
I’ve discovered too terry’s KZread canal, and I’m making a colori wash quilt from old linen gar menta! I then will quilt it by hand
Kate, how about close to Easter, natural dying Easter eggs and fabrics! See the difference and what colors you get on different substrates. Just a fun thought.

Love that this is a scrap project. Had a look at Terry’s finished quilts - they remind me of a Klimt painting.
I like the look of Terry's quilt finished. It does look like little apt. With the light in a window. Before that, the squares with different patterns don't seem to go!?,, 😳Just me! Fun video🫖
I love the light coming through your curtains to make them stained glass!
I love Terry's work. I was so amazed at how she sewed the whole quilt top together with all the pieces sticking together at the end. It was so amazing to see. I love how you say:" it's best not to think too hard about" totally agree, however that is not how my brain works - I really can do random chaos - I can do "orderly chaos" but it's still hard. I need to work on that :) You have such great color sense.

Same! The algorithm must've put her channel in the path of a lot of quilters at the same time. So interesting. I started following her on Instagram, too. Definitely worth doing if you're on that platform.
Kate, I've been meaning to do a Terry Rowland inspired colorwash quilt for a while. Your video helped push me forward, and inspired me to make a such a quilt ffom my scrap bins. I like that wonky is okay. In fact I'm taking that idea just a little further. My blocks are made up of various size scraps--where I'm not worrying about the size of tye blocks right now. I've made about 55 blocks so far in about a dozen sizes. I've done a couple of scrapy layouts with those blocks and I am loving the scappy, non-traditional way they are beginning to come together. I know that I'll probably cut down the number different sizes to make it easier to piece, but for now I'm loving the organic process of making the blocks. Your calm, unhurried manner have inspired me. Thank you. BTW I've seen the video with your final quilt layout-- beautiful!
OMG I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS, I THOUGHT I WAS A SUBSCRIBER BUT I WASNT!!! i AM NOW, I LOVE TO HEAR YOUR STORIES WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, i LAUGHED SO MUCH WHEN YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT YOUR SCHOOL DAYS, ABSOLUTELY FUNNY, BROUGHT MEMORIES OF MY SCHOOL DAYS, i TRULY BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE SO BLESSED ON THE RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE NOT ONLY WITH YOUR CHILDREN BUT WITH YOUR DAUGHTER IN LAWS. Good morning Kate and Anna. To begin; you are so fortunate to have beautiful Anna with you occasionally. Nothing like having a daughter or granddaughter that shares your love of quilting. You’ve gotten me hooked on making these cute scrappy blocks. I’ve only just begun this project but find myself waking during the night thinking of them. I finished my Blue Seed Packet quilt. What fun that was. God Bless you sweet lady. You’re an inspiration to so many sister quilters. ❤😂

Stay warm and dry. If you get worse go to the doctor. In March my allergies were terrible. They morphed into a sinus infection, then bronchitis and eventually early pneumonia. Let's just say we don't want to know what full blown pneumonia is like. It took 3 courses of antibiotics to get rid of it. Recuperation was still going on in August. So take extra good care of yourself. 🫖

Oh My Kate! Yes..I am doing this quilt.... BUT! My compost is SINGING! LA LA LAH! Yes-- I find myself further snipping all my extra tiny trimmings into lovely confetti and yes I have stirred those into my actual compost heap. Wonderful black soil is being created with such fun colours mixed in . AND IT IS YOUR FAULT. ( Thanks tons!)
What a coincidence ! I had just watched that video of Terry Rowland a few days ago. I think her idea of using scraps is fantastic and easy at the same time. It's nice to see you, Anna joining the quilting world .
Oh my gosh I discovered her about a month ago and started sewing blocks. I realized a lot of my fabric is very bright and child friendly. So mine will probably be a donation quilt for Project Linus instead of a color wash quilt. But I love how she organizes and cuts her pieces to prepare to sew.

That is awesome
I finally started this one yesterday Kate. What I realized is that I don’t have a bunch of different bits of scraps but a lot of the same fabric scraps. So it’s going to be more of a “wave” design, or maybe a “landscape” of rolling rows or up and down stripes. I don’t know at this point. The cool thing is a lot of the scraps are already in the right sizes. What a fun project. Really excited to keep going. Put the sewing machine out on the dining room table by the big windows and watch it snow. It’s the coldest it’s been here in Hamilton MT since 1889….right now a balmy 3 degrees. Got to be careful with bare skin on cold metal🙀
I hope to live many many more years so I can make things you’ve inspired! I love you!🦌💌❤️✌️🙏👍🥰

Hello, I am so happy to have found you! I think I’m calling myself an intermediate quilter at this point, all self-taught over the last seven or so years. I did know how to sew from childhood, but I didn’t really think about quilting until my Mom died and and I wanted to do something with her fabric stash. So I have made about 12 quilts since then and have really caught the fever. I love scrappy quilts and this one looks particularly useful for using some smaller pieces. Anyway, glad to be here, new subscriber. Peace from Ohio … (Meant to put this on the main comments page, but oh well …)
