I also get the physical feeling of cats on the bed in the morning sometimes. I will swear to you there is an actual living cat walking around my ankles. It used to completely freak me out, then I learned about hypnagogic hallucinations. This is also why I think 99% of ghost stories are hypnagogic hallucinations.

PSA from Ph.D. in neuroscience here - auditory hallucinations at night/when falling asleep are more common than people think. It's normal, not a ghost, and nothing to be concerned about (many people interpret background noise like AC as hearing voices - our brains are predisposed to hear speech even when it is not there. e.g. hearing "batman" when horns sound in original batman theme song). If you have persistent sleep paralysis or night disturbances that bother you though or give you anxiety - talk to your doctor ♥
@marysmith4811

SPB from PhD in Sleep Paralysis - I could not let this thread pass me by without commenting. There are those (like me) who have experienced sleep paralysis for many years and firmly believe that it is not a hallucination. It fits within the category of an extraordinary spiritual experience, meaning it could be spiritual, metaphysical, dimensional or extraterrestrial. There are no answers to the question of what SP is. Having spoken to hundreds of people during my research, it does seem like SP experiencers have an underlying psychic acuteness, which means that they can have this experience.

They're literally just hypnogogic hallucinations... The grey area between being awake and asleep. For most people they're closed-eye visuals they see as they drift off to sleep, but for like 1/3 of people they're sometimes open-eye visual or auditory or sensory hallucinations -- and they get worse when your brain (specifically your brain and not your body) is very tired and it's more prone to filling in the gaps. Very simple hallucinations like this are actually super common. Confusing a coat for a serial killer in your room, or an unknown noise for someone calling your name, or a muscle twitch for someone grabbing your ankles -- and closed eye visuals are so common that it's the 'norm' and people without them are the weird ones. Almost everyone experiences hypnogogic hallucinations of some kind actually, but most people just write it off as part of drifting off to sleep. It's only anxious people / people who are bad at accepting grey areas and need to label / understand everything that seem to really give them importance. But nah - ask anyone who has seen a horror movie at 2am... The anxiety keeps you awake, wears your brain out b/c it's running at 110%, makes you fill in the gaps with negative thoughts instead of neutral ones, and then makes a lot of false positives as you get 'jumpy'. Nothing too complicated about it, really. People always want to talk about astral projection and ghosts or whatever - but nah. It's actually super simple. Nothing weird about it. Just need to learn to accept a bit of grey area in life (in this case, the grey area between awake and asleep) and stop trying to figure it all out. As long as they aren't complicated and persistent hallucinations that happen when you're awake and alert (full sentences or visuals that don't go away once you look at them a second time), you're basically 100% okay. Just stop obsessing about them and they'll go away. It's just like dreams... The more you keep a dream journal and *try* to remember your dreams, the more you remember them. Similarly, an anxious brain *tries* to remember the hypnogogic half-dream-state hallucinations because it labels them as a danger, so you remember them and then have more of them. Most normal people just write it off as part of falling asleep though.....
@ritacorrieri9172
7 ай бұрын
Whew. That is a bunch of words explaining something I do not obsess about or try to remember. It just happens. I am an anxious person, however, and have taken steps to help me deal with it and I live a "normal" life. I have always been cognizant of the fact there are "grey areas" in all facets of life...not just sleep. @@undergroundalienstudios56

@@Caroline_Winkler indeed! I share the sleep paralysis with ya on occasion. PS once I herd a voice yell in my ear to “watch out!” while I was vacuuming because I was about to trip and crack my head on the corner of a wall. I jumped & yelled a colorful word. The voice sounded annoyed like it knew I was a klutz🙄so there’s that. Solidarity sister.
A clairvoyant once told me it's just as you fall asleep - or even when you wake in the middle of the night - when your guardian spirits will try and alert you to something - usually something that's on your mind at that moment. Any other time of the day is just too chaotic and noisy to hear or pay attention to them. I think it's a fantastic thing you hear it 🥰
Thank you for bringing your heart, mind, insight and talents to KZread. Two things: 1) The night voices and sense of touch, etc. could also be from a nervous system dysfunction that could come from a physical condition. I read the other comments and hypnagogic hallucinations seems to fit well (I’m not a doctor just someone with similar auditory and “tactile” issues) but I wanted to say this because though these phenomena can feel “crazy” and be “crazy” making, they may not be a mental health issue. I fully support people seeking mental health support when and as needed, but sometimes, especially with symptoms like these, the physiological causes and aspects can be overlooked. I hear music and feel touch, and sometimes a sense of wet, as if my foot were suddenly in water, and it turns out I have a neurological disorder and I cannot emphasize enough the blessing and benefit of simply understanding that aspect of my body. I’m trying to be brief, so forgive me if my details are sketchy, but my point is there may be additional avenues to consider. 2) I think you get this but just in case, knowledge is not intelligence and your intelligence is not in question. Knowing what you need to know and how you can find out if needed is much more valuable and requires much higher thinking levels than spouting random facts. Knowing the oceans may help you win a trivia contest at a bar; managing, analyzing and synthesizing information will help you build a life you want to live and give you the insight to share what you do on KZread.
And… I have a confession for you Caroline. I am a Mom with kids your age. They have always watched lot of KZread, so I thought why not see if I could find someone I’d follow…I began watching random things here and there… including ppl like Emma Chamberlain who had a very large following. I found you when you had under 20k followers. At 30k followers, I showed my daughter one of your videos and told her I predicted within a year you’d have a half a million followers. I said, “She’s smart, funny, authentic, and has a fresh way of YouTubing.” I even charted your progress in my phone because I wanted to be right. The upside down book “You caught me reading” is just the epic cherry on top of a truly awesome video cake IMO, so many parts made me literally LOL as a knee-jerk reaction and there were a number of times when my vision blurred until I wiped away the tears 😂 Thanks for making such a brilliant video! 💙 I have a confession about something which you’ve just triggered memories of. I once lied about my height on my MySpace profile. I put 6’0” instead of 5’11” because, well, I guess that for guys, it’s the equivalent of 5’3” vs 5’4”. I feel like I can finally now admit that I did this 😂 Also, the night voices(On the edge of falling asleep for me) totally resonate, and I’ve used sleep cocoons as a defence measure many times - that chapter is very validating! 😂🙂 Great work Caroline! 🔥
Caroline, I may be projecting but I know how hard it is to not know what's wrong with you and feel like your wasting your "blessed" life in a world that seems so full of suffering. I truly hope you feel better soon and the same to anyone else who is reading this comment. I don't know what you're going through but you'll get through it. You have more strength than you know (and I say this to myself too). Sending my love from one stranger to another x

Loved everything about this video. It was perfection!

Caroline, it is so much fun to see your videos.
I like the irregular schedule. It's more honest and more real. If you don't upload, I know shit's going down and I can't wait to get the tea. Pro tip: whenever you hear the voices just scream out _"GET BEHIND ME, SATAN!"_ Work 100%

A++ storytelling and editing as always. I sleep with a tiny bat on my side of the bed. I have to wear pants to the doctor because I don't want my bare skin touching anything even though I often have to disrobe.

This was a super fun episode! Good gamble girl ✅
Caroline, ME TOO. You perfectly described my experience at night. It’s been since childhood.
I just became US citizen back in September this year. One of the citizenship interview questions was to name the ocean on either side of the country. I am glad you don't have to do this interview!
Besides the night voices, this video is hilarious! Please keep NOT listening to your friends and family when it comes to video ideas. Thank you! 🙏🏻 P.S.: I really hope, you get the help you need and feel better soon! I'm also not doing well atm, that's why I'm thankful for the laughs.💜

There is a great podcast, [Your Wrong About] where the host says, 'See you can be a hot mess and still do a podcast. It's so comforting because I have been a hot mess for so long.
Caroline! My work bestie and I realized we both watch your videos today because she brought up ‘a KZreadr she watches that talks about night voices’ and I said ‘wait Caroline Winkler?!” Thanks for bringing us closer together ❤
“Pretty normal style actually” i frickin love you and this. Thank you.
You are a GEM. So funny, clever, relatable and real. Sensitive and fire-y at the same time. I don't know, I just...root for you. Is that the word, root? Toot? When you want all the good things for someone? Anywho, thank you for doing you, whatever that might be today. Toot!

I love the night voices and it's where I get my inspiration and help to solve my every day problems! I sleep with my eyes partially open too, used to freak my mom out 😅
I've never laughed so hard as when Caroline demonstrated her cacoon🤣🥰
really excellent video, i was a little worried about you not being as relatable now that you're in the world's cutest relationship but if anything you have grown more unhinged. puts me at ease, give justin our best

Oh gosh this made me laugh. Yeah I don’t think u have anything to worry about 😂
I've had that 'whispering my name' thing happen for years. It has subsided now (after decades) but what's weird is that my name is Carolyn. It was eerie to hear you say it. Ear plugs helped me a lot too! ❤
THANK YOU for bringing light to the very real ordeal of hearing voices just before sleeping and absolutely needing a fortress of a cocoon to sleep. I’ve experienced so many sweaty summer nights and a huge appreciation for percale cotton 🤪 we are not alone!!!!
I adore your whole vibe and your videos make me feel better about turning 30 in a couple of months. Is that a weird thing to say? Idk, I just love how open and real you are. And unashamed of who you are! Not that you have anything to be ashamed of, but you embody this specific kind of confidence I love and want for myself.
“Night voices” can actually be auditory hallucinations which can be a part of one of the sleep stages!
Idk what it is yet but I forgive you. ❤

Haha as I'm watching, I see there is no forgiveness needed. 😄
Regarding the night voices/sleep paralysis, I've always struggled with sleep paralysis and really bad nightmares too and ive found that being too hot while youre sleeping in the cocoon (which i also do lol) can really contribute to the paralysis being worse. Ive read about it being a thing but also def experienced it sooo maybe getting a lighter blanket might help!
I've adopted the same "I don't know and I don't want/need to know, therefore I refuse to know" and it is so FREEING. I only accept information I actually care about ❤
We all have our blockages -mine is my phone numbers- and that’s fine! Imagine that we were perfectly perfect, that would be perfectly unbearable..You are forgiven 🧡Greetings from France !

Do the night voices ask, ‘Caroline, do you know what ocean that is’ ???? I wouldn’t worry until they do!
I just want to tell you I love your honesty. I think you're perfect.
Honestly I love your personality! ❤
I have a confession! I’m saving your old holiday vlogs to watch in December to feel less alone/lonely (I’ve already binged your other videos a long time ago) ❄️❄️❄️🥲
You're going places Caroline.
I love watching you because I have zero sense of self and have been slowly integrating your personality into mine.
Thank you! I can only know right from left by facing south and picturing a church I went to when I was seven and learned this, and that cannot be done under any kind of stress. People have given me tips and tricks my whole life, and they do not work. In a pinch I pick one randomly and we both have a fifty-fifty chance of being right this way.
All your "night" things are very Charlie Day.
