I never heard of Royal Enfield until January. I wanted to get back into motorcycling after a few years off. But, I just wanted something small just to zip around Houston. I went to a local Triumph/Royal Enfield dealer to test ride a used Honda Rebel 300. I decided to try out a Royal Enfield Meteor while I was there. No comparison. I rode home on the Royal Enfield and am I ever glad I did! It's a great little bike!

You say you wanted to get back into motorcycling after a few years off, implying a history of bikes… then you say you'd never heard of RE before January 😲 Hang on, mate?… How can you have been a motorcyclist but not heard of the oldest, and biggest selling, marque of bike in continuous production? (for over 120 years)… One of the major manufacturers throughout the twentieth century, and last year they sold around four times the number of bikes that Honda sold.(RE - 600,000… Honda 15,000 world wide sales). Where have you been? 🤔 😃… I know the number of bike manufacturers has dwindled to only a few over the last half century (at one time, counting just British marques, there was at least one brand for every letter of the alphabet… and other countries were similar) Ride safe, my friend… whatever you ride.

It cruises happily at 80mph, has been super reliable, save for the original battery which last maybe 3 months. I have 2 other bikes you hate as well, Kawasaki Z900rs and shock horror gasp a Harley Davidson Dyna. The Enfield has character and draws attention wherever it goes. She's a keeper!

VINDICATION! I'm someone who just started riding a bit later in life and did a ton of research before settling on an Int650. It's a perfect first bike, full stop. It's got the right power level that you're not going to injure yourself too easily but is still fun to get on the throttle. Well-balanced, little heavy but to be expected from a retro bike. One tip for the YN team when you start looking for stuff to put on it is there's a *TON* of super cheap aftermarket and even OEM parts on eBay direct from India that you can't even get from the US dealers. I got their 'premium touring seat' (different model from the upgraded touring seat you can get in the US) for less than $150 and it's a big upgrade in seat comfort. They've got a bunch of exhausts available too. I'm planning on getting an AEW TE 101 exhaust for mine, you can find a bunch of Indian motovlogger videos comparing the exhaust notes.

I don't see the weight as a disadvantage. I always tell noobs to get something heavy with modest power. You need to get used to the dynamics of something heavy, particularly at low speed, if you intend on getting big bikes.

The way I see it. Angry super fast technologically advanced bikes are amazing. 200 hp on a race ready state of the art lightweight frame with some of the best suspension money can buy? Fuck yeah! Add a plethora of electronics that basically make you feel like a little mini rossi on the track. And you have an amazing machine that a lot of people would kill for! But just as there are lots of people that would love something like that I'd venture to say there's also a lot of people that genuinely don't care. They aren't concerned with lap times. They arent concerned with dyno numbers. They arent concerned with 0 to 60 times. They just want something thats fun and affordable. That gets them from point A to point B in style. And THATS where RE. comes in. Their bikes aren't fast. They don't handle well (when compared to modern sport bikes). They don't have the latest technology. But they are cheap. They sound great. They are playful as all hell. And they are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I don't care what kawasaki does to their zh2. It's got absolutely NOTHING on REs classic 350. The bikes are just so timeless and beautiful that you don't even want to ride them because you just want to look at em. I really feel like REs are for people that just want to enjoy the ride. They are happy to be on anything with 2 wheels and everything else can fuck off.

I got this bike this January as my second bike, first one was Honda Navi and coming from the Navi this thing felt like a death machine. It felt really heavy and acceleration felt like it would rip my soul from my body. And just after a few months I feel like this bike is slow. The revs won't go beyond 7000 and you have to change gears early to get to speed quickly, it feels like a cruiser. It's a great bike to cruise around 60mph and acceleration is decent too, but this bike helped me realise that sometimes I just need a crazy high revving bike that screams all the way to 13-15k rpm and accelerates like it's going into hyperspace. But mostly I'm happy with what this bike is. It looks cool, corners well, gets up to speed easily and is plenty fast for indian roads. From time to time I think of dumping it and getting a Triumph Speed Twin, but then I go on a ride and Indian roads and drivers remind me that this bike is plenty fast and flamboyant enough to get me killed.

If your bar is set at a bike that cost twice as much has to be twice as good sounds a bit silly. If you use that criteria then use it across-the-board . Good or better value for the money is important but certainly not the most important thing. Using that criteria not many BMWs, Ducati's, MVs, Moto Guzzis, Triumphs should be bought, all we be riding would be Himalayans, Metors and Interceptors.

Funny note -my friends had set up a 650cc Blast to collect some records - done. Also, there looking to break into the same record groups at the salt for the first time was the RE team . Terry and Jim both offered to help them out for their first year of getting it done on the salt - both holding a good number of standing LSR records for themselves. Talk about the typical British blow-off. Terry and Jim just laughed and walked on. Their - RE's top speed that year was 96mph - enough said.

I think, performance wise other than the engine, one should put on better brakes and suspension on the Interceptor. Those two things can greatly improve the performance 🙌

I think they are fine. They appear closer to the old Triumph and BSA bikes I fought to keep running back in the day. Nothing very fast with passable brakes but just carefree fun. They are missing the kicker. What good is a British twin if you cant look cool kicking it over? Everybody deserves to get their ankle jammed up when the bike kicks you back. The joys of having your entire electrical system go up like a firecracker fuse leaving you with no lights for the ride home just adds to the adventure!.

biggest issues of royal enfields, the electronics when it gets wet, they bike doesn't wanna start. the clutch and accelerator cables tend to rust easily and breaks off. imagine riding the bike then the cable breaks. you have to always have those cables on you all the time. the gauges are sometimes wonky.
