    I took it as her being completely desensitized by the end, they were all completely destroyed. I believe that was the point lol

    Well, yeah, for sure - but it just made me feel like even someone with that “high” would have some level of preservation…? I dunno - I feel like that might’ve made her snap back, and when she walked away…guess it just didn’t click for me!

    I can see that! There was a moment during the movie where I was thinking, “I’m gonna have to get this on 4K disc”, but then I was like, “I don’t think I need to see this again.” Bit frustrating!

    100% agree on the ending. I woke up thinking this morning that a turn happened in this movie where it went from great to forgettable and it had everything to do with that scene. Also, I had problems that the male character got a high in watching the carnage but when it came to the people he knew he got self righteous. They never called out his hypocrisy

    Since I saw so many positive reviews as mine was going up, I thought I’d get blasted for saying that. Glad I’m not the only one that feels that it rang hollow to others, too. It’s weird though - Joel was so a hypocrite, but an honest one. Felt more like a real person to me, and I didn’t feel betrayed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I'll be interested to see you spoiler part after I see the movie this week. I first see a trailer for this before Dune 2. I figured it was going to be an turn you brain off action piece like Olympus has fallen. So I've been interested since I have heard it sounds like it has more thought than a movie like that and people have enjoyed it. But yeah not getting into politics but it's silly how I do know a few people IRL who seem to want something like this to happen. They think it would be over in a week and their side will win and just have control. So I'm intrigued to see how this film shows how something like that might play out in a grounded way.

    Yeah, the really smart thing about this (and that I still admire about it) is that by taking the politics and idealism out of it, you focus on the horror of all this, and that’s really effective to me. I hope you enjoy it! Some people don’t seem to have the problems that I do with it.

    I haven't seen the movie, but I have no intention of seeing it, so spoilers don't bother me. I can certainly understand and agree with Garland's decision to keep the movie as neutral and apolitical as possible, but I think the lack of a backstory/explanation for how things got the way they were would have made it hard for me to really get into it if I did decide to watch it. The best I can guess is that President Offerman really screwed California and Texas over big time so they decided to set their rivalry aside to take down a common threat. As the old saying goes: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend".

  • @order42show

    @order42show

    3 ай бұрын

    Yeah, we don’t get any of that! But what that does is allows you to focus on these people and the horrors that they face. To me, it’s absolutely clear that this is meant to show how it changes us. In almost every confrontation, you’re not sure who’s on which side, you’re just in this situation that’s loud and terrifying.

    as a person who watched this movie a hour ago i would like to make a LONG detailed review/comment while its fresh in my mind. personally i was expecting a Movie about modern warfare and personally thats what i wanted not, a lot of good war movies come out and this one is not AT ALL what i expected. now before i get into what i did and didnt like about this film i just wanna say it was a Good film and i think that the message it sent was far more real then anyone in the theater expected it was a window of possibility on what could happen and it could vary much happen and i feel like this movie was a warning to us all asking us, Do you really want this?.and that itself really thunderstruck me. now the cons. i personally thought jesse was a total piece of dogshiiiii and she was a absolutely dumb but that isnt really a con its more of just a fact that we all already knew now i disliked the whole PRESS thing that was going on i thought it really was annoying and its not like we DONT HAVE FUDGING BODYCAMS but YOU KNOW those are not a damn thing just walk around cross fire and all that and dont expect to get shot. and a ABSOLUTE FACTOR why i disliked the film is why they did not explain why texas and californa were teaming up and that bugs me i totally understand what they were trying to go for but i would rather know and have a COMPLETE story and understand why because then u can feel some emotion for why they are fighting and not just feeling like its a pointless conflict and i feel like the conflict felt stupid and pointless because we didnt have a explanation thats a HUGE con for me and it just feels like a book with a whole in it. it feels like a PART 2 to a movie series but we didnt get the first part. Thats just my opinion not fact overall do i think u should see this film YES 100% it is a really good film i just wish the director did it a LIL diffrently thanks for reading. also one last thing i did not like how much they disrespected the US Military.4/10

    I totally see where you're coming from! Not explaining the major players was different than what I'd expected as well. BUT...and I'm playing devil's advocate here, that WAS the point. From the point of view of the press covering the issue, each side can be equally scary and, in a way, inhumane. I enjoyed the character of Jessie as she was our (the audience) view into this world of war photography...until that scene (you know what I'm talking about!) I think as a message, it's pretty effective, but as a satisfying movie, I find it lacking (I'd probably give it a 6/10). Thanks for watching my review, though!

    If you've ever been to a war zone you realize how useless and "goofy" it all is. Iv covered 6 lethal force conflicts, it never ends well and there is no "reason" and only the deluded think something was accomplished. Now i really want to see this movie.

    Just saw it. Not impressed. Cinematography amazing! Plot nonexistent. From several reviews I saw before I expected some jarring scenes. And while there is tension, I was not shaken or jarred in any way. Much more intensity--characters that I cared about--in Saving Private Ryan or Fury than this film. I walked out at the end wondering what the point was, exactly what the producer/director was trying to convey. That civil war is not something anybody wants? I think anyone living in the real world, in their right mind, and certainly any of us who've fought overseas, particularly in the insane and brutal Middle East, knows that Civil War something we don't want. Frankly I didn't see the point of this movie, why it was made, and why anyone would want to spend the kind of money required to make such a film in this day and age. In my mind America and Americans need to see uplifting movies, movies with genuine heroes, particularly those noble and great ones from our past. So, while I'm okay with having seen Civil War, I won't recommend it to others and certainly won't watch it again or buy it for my extensive DVD library. That's all. --I'm Grandpa Rick.

    Wow, that’s two that saw it tonight that didn’t really care for it! I completely understand though, especially if you’re looking for more of a plot. This is one of those movies where I can admire the technical aspects of it and enjoy it on that level but can totally see where many wouldn’t like it. I can also see that maybe Garland just really admires the war photographer in general, someone who can try to document confrontations. Thanks for watching my review!
