I got the shanks... And how I got rid of them.
Спорт
Guys, I'm so embarrassed right now. I got the golf shanks in the very beginning of my Myrtle Beach trip. It truly screwed me up mentally for the entire trip. I got back to Dallas and had an emergency lesson with Zach to go over how to fix them.
I'm embarrassed to post this video, but it is part of my journey, and I have to show the bad and ugly too.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for watching!

Shot an 81 today. My absolute lowest by a large margin. I am a 21 handicap and haven't broken 90(it was an 89) in like over a year. It all came together today and a few of the tips Ive gotten from your videos were in my head for some of it.

Dude, let’s freaking go!!!!! Congrats man! That’ll drop your HC down for sure!!
This trainer is brilliant. I suffered from a shank for a month. This exercise would have saved me sleepless nights. Thank you very much.This is a Google translation from Germany
I share the same passion for golf as you. Much appreciated that you are brining us along on your golf journey. Looking forward to more videos.

Such a simple fix, but I don't think I would have ever thought of doing this exercise on my own. Thank you!

Me either! Took it to the range yesterday and it was awesome. Also tried it with my longer clubs and it was really cool to see the ball hook with toe shots with my hybrid!
Great checklist! Really liked how this turned out. Big value for others in self diagnosing and fixing the most demoralizing miss in golf. Earl Woods told Tiger “you can swing as fast as you want as long as you hit center face, when you stop hitting center face you have to slow down.”

Thanks for the wisdom, Zach!! Hit the range yesterday and applied the toe, heel, center exercise to almost every club and it was awesome. I even did it with my driver to help me remember what hitting the center felt like

Awesome! Drive face awareness is huge as well. Especially as the gear affect really determines the directional miss. A lot of people think they missed right or left due to open or closed when it was actually heel or toe.
Makes total sense to feel your bad shots. Now to do it at the range in front people brings back bad memories. 😂

Welcome to the journey and getting frustrated. I have been playing for over 40 years, and I still stink ! Hopefully this will be the year, now that I have more time to work things out.

Awesome content, this has been me the past 2 weeks. Been playing for 3 years now and first time ive had the shanks. My goal for this year is to consistently shoot under 85 and your lesson videos are definitely a huge help.

So happy they’re helping man! Please keep me updated with your progress. I believe in you brother!!
working with an online coach has made diagnosing shanks or other major misses so much easier - record your swing, look at it in slow motion, and see what you're doing to cause the miss (this is impossible if you're a pure beginner but if you work with a coach who takes you through videos of your swing often, it gets easier and easier). love the idea of getting a better sense of where the club is by intentionally striking heel and toe!

Thanks Stefan! That’s awesome that you’ve been working with an online coach. The golf swing is such an interesting subject to study man
Thanks for documenting your journey, a lot of what you have to say resonates with me, goal is to get down to single figures although my job has me working everyday without assess to swinging a club so use a stick and resettled my swing that I think is fundamentally sound, can’t wait to get to the range to try - have noticed your shoulder tilt and have found myself adding that which I’m stoked for! Keep it up buddy and all the best 👍🏻

I feel ya brother, golfed earlier today, hit some shanks, couldn't figure it out. Went out tonight and hit it great. Golf is a humbling game...

Texas Heat & Sun is brutal. Have to cover up in order to survive the spring and summer.
been watching silently for a couple weeks now. Im a beginner I actually just got my first set of clubs today so just trying to get better i guess. I only have one score of my own, all the others were scrambles with my friend whos better and got me into the game. Probably going to need to find a good coach like yours!

holy smokes this is incredible
I’ve always fought the shanks over my 15 plus years , it can happen so many ways. The club going towards the ball can happen so many ways. Mine was in the downswing my whole body will turn , not lead with the lower. Causing an out in path of like -10. My buddy has a indoor sim facility that has over head cameras

Love your stuff! Do you find the club path/face angle to be accurate on your Garmin? (being used to the trackman)
@ErndogGolf
4 ай бұрын
Thanks man! Zach tested one and said the path was always pretty close (+/- 0.5 degrees). The face is sometimes a bit off, but you can guess the face from the ball flight if you’re at the range. You also begin to feel the difference at impact between open and close and can estimate it!
Read Adam Young The Practice Manual: The Ultimate Guide for Golfers. You can the adjust on the course and have a few bad shots rather than a bad trip. On a side note I shot my best ever round of 71 today... ( -1 ) 17 pars and a single birdie, bogey free

@@ErndogGolf Agreed. The Sweet Spot is a great golf Pod. Whilst your at it, grab Jons book too, 'The Four Foundations of Golf". Combined they give you a great Philosophy on practice and play
For how long did you have it? How much practice was needed to get rid of it? I had quite similar experience as you, where I´ve been hitting the ball the best of my life the past month. Played pretty steady mid 85. Suddenly, three days ago, it was like someone snapped their fingers and I started shanking almost all of my shots. Even if I try to hit the toe at the range, I have this ugly heel tendency… the only drill that works is placing an obstacle on the outside of the golf ball, but as soon as I remove it, I start shanking again.
@ErndogGolf

I only had it for about 3 days, but similar to you, before I had it, I felt like I was hitting the ball the best I’ve ever had. Did you go through the checklist to see what part of the body is causing it? Another really common reason for shanks is presenting the club face really open at impact. So even if you’re trying to hit the toe, you’ll lead in with the heel
Need a bunker lesson
clean those baby's 👀
Looks like you are way too close to the ball. Back up a bit

Geez, this guy didnt really teach you anything. What was root cause of the shanks, thats what you need to find out, or they are coming back.
