Thanks for your tip about the shank. Especially how to address the club correctly by bending forward down to the ball. It helped immediately

Had the shanks really bad a few years ago...Everytime I had to hit an iron my only thought was don't shank it, but I usually did. If a group was coming up the hole to the right of me I would pick my ball up and put it in my pocket...didn't want to hit them. Finally a coach used the side by side ball drill and said, don't hit the outside ball with your swing...it worked. Thanks
Well done and great explained. Greetings from Germany!

Thanks Kerrod. I DREAD a short iron shot because I know I will shank it. I will try this drill to overcome it. Your instructions are simple and clear.

I’m going to try these. I’m a 10 handicap that has regular rounds in the 70s. Inconsistency and now all of a sudden I dont know how to make good contact with a lot of shanks
will try this out at the range later

Thank you very much. I am a 7 hcp that this week started to shank resulting in scores of a 36 hcp. It is a sense of humor killer. This video mad e me aware of what might be happening. Most likely it is my balance since I got new shoes and they are tight on my achilles heel resulting in bruised skin. So probably I leant forward just to much.

You're very much welcome, mate!
Will work on this tomorrow. I have seen other instructors say the cause can be form an in-to-out swing, but more often an out-to-in swing. Your thoughts?
I am aware what a shank is.... why do so many instructors start off by explaining what it is....everyone knows....rest of lesson superb...many thanks
I’m prone to toe shanking, particularly on early holes. Similar fixes?
My shank story. I've been playing this game seriously for 10 years. No matter how bad my swing was, I rarely shanked. I would chunk, top and slice but not shank. I got good at the game. Shooting mid 70's to low 80's. Last year during our winter season, I decided to start my training early by going to a simulator. The first 3 weeks, I was amazing. Then one night, the shanks started to happen. This lasted for 2 months. I was devastated. If I hit 100 balls with my irons, 70 of them was a shank. I had sleepless nights because of this. I watched quite a few videos and I thought I was cured. Nope, kept coming back. It was only by luck I was able to diagnose the problem when I was watching a shank video and the youtuber had mentioned what I was doing. I was getting stuck in my swing. One drill fixed it. I call it my life saver drill because it corrects not only my shanks but a few other things. Suffice it to say, I went on and had a great season with only 2 shanks. I play a ton of golf and a shank or two will not break my spirits. That drill became part of my preshot routine. If you are suffering from the shanks, I feel for you. Go back to basics and stick to your drills.

Drill?

For me, it was the split hand grip drill plus the L to L drill. For those of you suffering from the "good player" shank, the remedy will be in two places for most of you: Hand path/swing plane and getting stuck. These youtube rabbit holes got me out of it. Don't get discouraged.

Your right...old tips never talked about the hands...one thing no one talks about when they talk about moving towards the ball is that you have to watch you dont bend your right knee down too much in the downswing

@@cluman1split hand drill & L to L drill?
The first solution helped me so much. I would keep the weight on the toes at address and suffered from the dreaded shank. As soon as I stacked my weight over my feet, I'm shank free....knock on wood.

Fantastic result! I'm happy I was able to help.
I use painters tape on the club face to check my impact.
The shank has periodically visited my game off and on for DECADES. I try adjustments like making sure my hips are moving forward before my arms and go for long periods without even thinking about. An occasional shank is not a problem but every once in a while (like today on the range) one hosel rocket leads to another and another etc. I hit a dozen consecutive ones today and couldn’t figure it out. I’d move to a driver or fairway metal and no problem. Back to an iron and … tada, shank. Embarrassing and disheartening …. Help
I’m prone to shanking lately but I do come from the inside idk how to fix it

Shanks are awful. Try putting a 2 by 4 to the right of your ball, and training yourself not to hit it
Tip#2 hits home for me. I just practice making sure I turn hips to help square club face up. Instant results 🏌🏾♂️😀
