Alarming, since I bought CD's decades ago - blues, swing & such. Then when Katy Perry & Taylor Swift came around Amazon recommended them. How do you go from blues to Katy Perry? They also recommend books I've already bought - not something people normally wear out or use up.

It could be some person overseas quickly glancing at the computer suggestions, clicking on a few at random, and hitting submit over and over again all shift. That way, it is technically human selected, in the cheapest most computer generated way possible.

You can set thr budget. It starts at $25 and goes up from there. So you can choose how much you want to spend on particular clothing items.

As someone who works in tech and builds systems like that every day. That is 100% an algorithm that gets quickly signed off by a human just before sending the pick options.

and it really shows. boring. safe. just like I would assume a robot processes info. there is no “getting out of the box/comfort zone” attempts like you’d see with an actual stylist. No surprise to see that robots made by geeks with no style are not that creative or cool.

Totally! The thing about the picks getting better over time sold that idea to me. I noticed a lot of linen in the picks. Linen is probably classified under "casual"

amazon really should implement a "never" option instead of rarely or sometimes cos a lot of those categories would have been a hard pass for me lol

The stylist *did* play it safe and, personally, I wouldn't pay $4.99 a month for someone to recommend these boring ass clothes to me. She also said that she likes edgy style and boho style and she selected that she'd try any trend other than animal print or cropped pants so they had a lot of information to go off of.

Can I just say I really love how Tyler isn't passive and silent while filming? His cute little responses and additions really make these videos go from awesome, to super awesome. It's nice to see a husband who is so engaged in and involved with his wife's hobbies and interests (and in Saf's case, career as well). This is how it's supposed to be. It shouldn't be a chore or a pain for SO's to spend time with each other and do the things they love together, even if it's not really a personal interest for one of them. You guys are honestly the perfect couple, and I'm so happy for you guys and thankful that you share so much of your lives with us, and make such great, interesting, and funny content! Loved this video, and tbh I thought you looked cute in everything, but you were definitely extra cute in that dress! ❤

A little bit of info that Amazon probably doesn't want you to have: I was on a job recruiting site and the Amazon stylist job was on there, which means there are real people doing it. But it's also contract work so they're just churning people out approximately every year. So real people: yes. People well versed in fashion: probably not so much. If you keep the service it's probably a different person "styling" you every month.

It seems like they went with safe choices in different styles to see what you liked and didn't like, and then they would start giving you more personalized results. I would say that you should see what gets picked for you after a few shipments to see how well things get personalized.

I'm tempted to try this or another one because it's so time-consuming for me to read all the details on a zillion items. I'd have to see what all the quiz & input options are because I'm hypersensitive to a lot of fabric types & I didn't see that on the quiz. That makes it difficult for anyone to buy clothes for me (people who occasionally get me gifts know not to buy me clothes unless it's something specific I've put on a wishlist).

@@del_eris I have a similar problem but my main issue is even though I kind of switch between styles pretty much daily based on my mood, I'm still very specific about the stuff I buy. Like my biggest issue is I would tell them I like black and colors and they would give me all muted stuff even though I only wear jewel tones. I have a hard enough time shopping for myself both in stores and online. I could never expect someone who's never even met me to get it right.

she eliminated most color options in the quiz, but she did leave on every pattern except animal print, and she said that she often wear edgy styles and also liked boho styles. amazon had lot of to choose from. and still they send boring clothes.

I also wear a lot of black and I agree with Safiya’s assessment that their picks were nothing really interesting. Color isn’t the only way to make an article of clothing interesting, you can do different and unique cuts or fabrics, have layers to a piece, add unique detailing to certain parts, etc. even with only neutrals you can make patterns out of black/white/gray (see: the black dress she got). I mean it also seems that the service is aiming to give the customer clothing for their everyday wardrobe, those items can tend to be plain and look cool when you add them to something else. There’s a place for plain clothing in a wardrobe, so it’s not necessarily a criticism to say it is plain.

Last time I was this early .... Safiya was still engaged, betrothed..... AFFIANCED!

@@nelesophie174 I always use off brand, I had an ex who always used brand clothing, I can assure you /some/ brands are better quality than just buying the item from anywhere. I.e with t-shirts, a good quality fabric will dramatically diminish how much the smell of sweat sticks to it. With jeans, cheaper brands tend to lose shape easily. Shoes really vary on how comfortable they are. However, not all expensive brands carry quality items. Also, there's a price point where the quality isn't getting any better but prices can still get more expensive. After learning I could have better quality clothing by paying a bigger price.... I still buy cheap clothing 😂

I will be willing to spend more if I know it's quality. I would recommend to anyone just to research a little bit. Sustainable Fashion or find brands you like and read about them to see. There are some really cool brands who are focusing on sustainability and quality.

With having a "straight" figure, it shows where your waist is while accentuating your hips and big booty. ;) But also I feel like you asked for neutrals but then were disappointed when they sent you neutrals. Let your goth flag fly! If you're ever feeling adventurous though I think instead of white/beige maybe go for dark purples or deep reds.
