Nate’s my brother-in-law. I haven’t spoken to him in a few years and I didn’t know he was being featured in a VICE video until someone sent this to me. He is genuinely a friendly guy at heart with a rough exterior. He did have self-inflicted trials and tribulations; I’m happy to see he’s doing well and learning that life can give you a second chance if you’re willing to take it. Thanks you VICE, for helping Nate make amends and right his wrongs.

This is the ONLY guy I’ve seen take responsibility for his bad reviews. And I’ve been binge watching these for hours. Despite trying to keep them separate, your personal life can definitely effect your professional life. The repercussions are just much more relevant and severe when your profession is permanently scarring another strangers body who’s not only paying you but trusting you. It’s tough but I’m glad he’s holding himself accountable and moving forward. Best of luck, Nate.

Nate has been my favorite interviewed person so far. I feel really awful and disappointed that people treated him unfairly and didn't stick around to make sure he was okay. Wishing him all the best. Really the most heary warming episode for me

Tattoos are permanent and his job is to deliver a good quality tattoo. His costumers aren't there to check up on him, they are there to get a tattoo. And to be honest his work is very poor quality judging by the tattoo he gave Taji

I'm sure he would have offered a free cover up if they would have came to him directly about the problem, or maybe said something when they were idk still there? Also, if they didn't feel comfortable having him fix the tattoo, I'm sure there are plenty other artists that would cover it up for free. Yes, even tattoo artists are human and even the best artists in the world have made their own blunders. Try to treat people as you'd want to be treated and remember that they're still human at the end of the day.

Exactly. I'm not tearing into this video, the host, the tattooist, or the tattoo...BUT that moment when the buzz meets blood and ink IS NOT the best time to begin such a direct line of questioning, regardless of the facts of the case. I think it's great you do these videos & get the other side of the story. Life can be difficult & challenging at times. To see people overcoming something negative & determined to change their attitude & fight for their occupation deserves recognition. I think you are really doing a service for those who really accept the past situation & push past it to become better at their job/craft. This guy reminds me of a buddy that I work with. He has a shady past with drugs and everything that comes with them, but he has a heart of gold and he’s a good guy. People really can change.

Vice chooses the best people to do the reporting. Watching Taji in tattoo parlors and strip clubs is funny before anything even starts. His self-awareness helps a lot. He knows how he comes off. This is a GREAT episode.

Of course he knows he’s being filmed so he’s going to make sure he’s 100% by the book. Would’ve been more interesting if it was hidden camera

I love what you doing, as humans we all go through stuff, we all make mistakes. Those things should never define us... Being a tattoo artist is not an easy job... It takes year of skill and practice to master, we put alot of effort and dedication into every piece we do, a little appreciation goes a long way

He broke my heart. I had my own business for many years it was phenomenal, it was successful, I had the best reputation and then my health took a hit and I wasn't feeling well.. a few bad months made my reputation plummet quickly.. I'm actually tearing up right now just writing this because it still hurts my heart. I got burned out mentally and physically and all of my hard work that I put in for all those years went down the tubes quickly.. I ended up losing everything.. my health, my business, my marriage, my career, my income and almost my life 😔 unless people have owned their own business, they have no idea how stressful it can be and how risky and fragile it is.. I wish people would understand before putting bad reviews out there. There is a reason for everything.. we are all human and all have good and bad days.

it's not stolen. Vice was filming this video before halloween. PHilip's first video was a month ago. I don't know how you can be that ignorant. If you watch the video, the facts are clear. Both Vice and Philip had the idea of creating "a worst reviewed" series around fall.

Thank you for promoting the industry in a positive light. yes there are some cowboys out there but a lot of the onus for a good looking tattoo lies with the client aftercare is imperative

He seems like a very cool guy, and I’m glad you got a tattoo that made you happy. It was really cool to see Nate take responsibility for his past actions. That’s not always something you see. I think it shows his character. And I wish him well in the future. He deserves another chance.

I do feel sad for whatever Nate was going through that made him lose his artistic vision to get all those negative reviews, but come on. All those stencils he sketched out were messy and all over the place, and that finished product was even worse. I would be Nate’s friend, but I wouldn’t be his client.

He said it was great and everything he could ask for and i just cringed. That tattoo was nasty, so gross with the thick lines and overdone shading and the surfer is blocky not a real person it’s just not a good tattoo and im sure the first person he shows it to will make him regret getting it.

Yeah I would not get a tattoo here. I couldn’t figure out what was going on on that stencil, it looked like he actually did it free hand but I couldn’t tell. Seems like a nice guy, but when I’m getting tattooed I wanna see precision, someone who takes their time, cleaner line work, etc

I like Louis Theroux as an interviewer. Putting his guests at ease and gaining their trust, whilst maintaining that awkwardness. Taji is the same. Guests are immediately on the back foot as they don't know how to perceive the situation. Brilliant.

Genuinely shocked by how particular Taji was about the design. The man continues to surprise and delight me.
