I Found the Agate of a Lifetime!
Ғылым және технология
I found a bigger Lake Superior agate than I ever thought was possible in the area I hunt. It tipped the scales at a whopping four pounds.

Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

Absolutely amazing finds. I love your channel & havent missed one yet! My ultimate wish is that when you scout the shorelines & find those weird, odd & just downright rocks that stump our imagination & so spectacular we have no words.... please give us an educated guess of what you think and show it a tad longer because i know many of us rockhounders out there have rocks like those & we wanna know what they could be because we love them too. Those are the rocks we wanna know more about...the ones we know nothing or very little about. Thanks for sharing all your rock adventures. I appreciate you.

You would have to be a geologist to know what every rock is imo. Rob knows a lot about rocks through. I appreciate when he says I don't know what this rock is. I'm sure most of us rockhounds don't know what every rock is.

Unfortunately, I’m not a geologist and don’t even know that much about geology. I’m much more into the lapidary part of this hobby. I know a few rocks and mention what they are when I do. I could probably do a better job of showing the rocks for a bit longer. It’s really difficult to keep everyone happy though. On one hand, I want to show the rocks long enough that you get a good look at it, but on the other hand, if I don’t go fast enough, the video will be too slow moving for some people. Keep the advice coming, I listen to all of it.

I’ve really enjoyed this video series with you and Sam at Lake Superior. I’m with you leave the big agate like it is. Congrats on finding it and it kind of makes me wonder if some of them magates that we find aren’t really agates and we just don’t know what kind they are yet. Really liked the rock with the iridescent pebbles in it.
@MichiganRocks
Жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. I need to look through my magates to see if there are any other pseudomorph agates. It seems like I’ve seen agates like this before.
I would love for you to do a two part video. First part showing the rock hunt and second part showing you tumbling those rock and how they turn out when polished. You will eventually see rocks from this beach tumbled, but tumbling typically takes me a couple months. I have done lots of other videos showing Michigan rocks that I have tumbled.
It was nice that you finally got a break from the flies. I wonder where they all went. I liked the black and white color changing rock. Did you take that one home? The agate was a good find. It would look good slabbed, so you could see the inside. Poor Sam must have been freezing is shorts and flip flops. I don’t think that he was expecting 51 degree weather.
@MichiganRocks
Жыл бұрын
Neither of us were expecting it to be quite that cold I was in shorts and wading in the water too. As long as you're dressed warm on the tip, it's not that bad. The flies are worst in hot weather. They don't seem to be out nearly as much in the cold or wind. I'm not sure where they hunker down on those days. We made two videos on this day and the two flies videos were made the day before.
Wow! Way to go! Have fun!
