VVVVVV Part 3 - it ends as quickly as it began. This short but sweet platformer was a lot of fun, on to the next game!

**VIDEO SPOILERS BELOW** VVVVVV Review, starting with what I liked: - This game introduced so many unique ideas and variations to the platformer genre. It never milked an idea for too long, frequently switching up the mechanics to keep gameplay interesting. - The world itself was fun to explore. I enjoyed not knowing whether an easy open space or the hardest level ever waited around the corner. Like everything else, the game had a good variety of level difficulty, providing fun for players of all platforming skill. - The trinkets were an incredibly fun goal to shoot for, with a little direction from Twitch chat. Most trinkets provided an exciting hard challenge that didn't have any similarity to other challenges around the map. - The soundtrack was incredible, duh. - Graphics fit the vibe of the game perfectly. - The main game ended exactly where it needed to. Any longer and it would have become tedious or ventured into unfun levels of difficulty. What I didn't like: - While the platforming controls were unique, they were also fairly shallow. Three buttons (left, right, and flip) can't provide much depth to a platformer, so creating difficulty often means venturing into unfun and overtechnical territory. The game did that by creating challenges that required the mastery of the slipperiness of the character, the worst of which being during the "ball and chain" escort levels. Overall Rating: 9/10 (Excellent)

I played this game on my 3DS a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Never 100%’ed it, but still played it all the way through. Honestly surprised I didn’t need cheats to beat it (still messed around with them after thought how could I not) Glad to see that you enjoyed it too! Also pretty sure there’s a level editor of sorts somewhere in this game, as people made custom levels that made it into the 3DS version(of which I also did not complete) so it might be worth checking some of those out.

Yeh I agree when I revisited this game last year I was blown away that the game still held up so much form my memory’s of playing it on a DS as a kid. but the escort quest made me question the controls with how often a little tap would overshoot where I wanted to go

VVVVVV, one of the few games where autoscrolling is fun.
@Atomosphere
Жыл бұрын
The issue with autoscrolling in most games is that it either rushes the player in a game that would most likely be enjoyed slow or it just goes too slow and then becomes boring. VVVVVV does autoscrolling perfectly since it's fast enough for the player to be slightly ahead of the game, but not too much so that the player can just run ahead and hit a wall. Combine the perfect speed of autoscrolling with a level that isn't too easy, but not too hard, and you get the masterful usage of autoscrolling that VVVVVV has. Also up/down works so much better for autoscrolling levels than left/right.

Congrats on beating VVVVVV! This is one of my favorite games, it's nice to see that you also enjoyed it! There's a lot of player levels within the game itself and made by the community you should definitely try out, they're a lot of fun! :)

Tyler, although you don’t really try out fan-made content all that often, you should take a look at 333333 or some of the other user levels; a lot of them are super polished and creative maps!

Unbelievably, the R button being used during cutscenes was NEVER patched, even after the game became open source and received a community-created update. You can still to this very day go into the game and spam R just to see what will happen, and it has some absolutely hilarious effects.

Subtitles much?
Seeing as you enjoyed this game, I would like to recommend you to play some of the games's many player levels. Included in the game is a bunch of extra levels by early fans of the game. Some range from fun 10 minute distractions, to fill fledged campaigns that rival the depth of the main game itself.
You did mention in one of your videos that you played Braid before but never actually finished it. I would highly suggest that you give it another try, especially due to the two different endings that the game has. The trinkets in VVVVVV have a similar counterpart in Braid, which will drive you nuts but are so satisfying once you figure them out. Anyway, loved the series. Hope something similar will pop up in the future. Much love and stay awesome man! ❤😊

Oh for fuck's sake, you're the third Celeste speedrunner I've found in a random place in the last week
VVVVVVery enjoyable video :)
I just love music from this game.
kay, bad game idea. A game where you have checkpoints, but most of them spawn you in a death trap. The gimmick is that you can, over the course of the game, manipulate the checkpoints, and the way you manipulate the checkpoints increases in severity. First it's invalidating your last checkpoint (going to second to last), second it's deleting checkpoints, by expending an energy bar or something. Then it's creating checkpoints in specified places. As you go on, you begin to have more freedom and more cracked abilities, like the ability to throw a checkpoint anywhere. To stop a softlock you could have super checkpoints, or something. Sprinkle some crazy movement abilities, some simple combat, something super easy but where you have to find the ability to kill your enemies, like a way to progress you properly. Slap a simple story about, idk, some lady finding her gf after some chaos happens with monsters or what-have-you, and side of 3x3 big rooms, and you have the indie game of the year, hands down. For 2023 though, 2022 already has a lot of great games.
