Dear Petko, I'll never get tired of how you use the present and past tenses interchangeably in your sentences 😂 As someone who speaks English as a second language, I understand why that happens, and I like that you don't try to edit out your mistakes. Oh, and by the way your latin is spot on! Love your videos

Where are you from ? I’m French and we pronounce some of the syllables differently than Petko in Latin language, his accent is probably what causes the differences in pronunciation. But even with that I agree with you on the fact that Petko is one of the best Latin speaker in the hobby, some species names are skinned alive by the speaker on others channels.

I will say that ever since I've stumbled across this channel I've found that I'm not as afraid of Tarantulas as I used to be. Listening to explanations of their behavior and getting to learn their anatomy has taken a lot of the fear away and now I'm more fascinated than anything. Thank you so much

These are scolopendra cingulata, the colour form is called "dalmatica". They are not their own species, just cingulatas with very nice coloring.
@tanakeilidh384
3 жыл бұрын
That's the best answer by far because it makes both names correct!
@HalcyonSkies

Every resource I've seen lists dalmatica as a separate species from cingulata. Nothing I've found has listed dalmatica as a colour form for cingulata, and no image of a cingulata shows them with anything close to that coloration. Possible I haven't done enough digging, but just the results I have found thus far seem to lean in the direction of this being a Scolopenda dalmatica, as even the known distribution of dalmatica almost exclusively falls in Croatia.
@marioperanic1899
3 жыл бұрын
@@HalcyonSkies I know, there is not a lot of information about this subject. But still, there are a few people in Croatia that bred cingulatas, and they produced both the normal stripes ones AND the blue legged variant, from striped parents... The other thing that definitely does not make sense is two big centipede species (whose lnly difference is their coloring) to live simpatrically in the same place. I found both color forms under the same stones and logs, multiple times, so I don't know...
@HalcyonSkies
3 жыл бұрын
@@marioperanic1899 Yeah there really isn't a lot of information, I thought it would be fun to dive in and see what I could uncover but it's all pretty scant, so I could believe that they're both the same species. It wouldn't be the first time that the same species has been classified under multiple names.

Same here, horror on legs! The ones here in Holland are tiny like mostly 20mm, but the first time i saw giant desert centipede it made my skin crawl. Coyote Peterson from Brave Wilderness let him self be bit by one, first time i saw it , i had to stop watching for a minute. If you like horror, watch that vid.
"Why are you letting that roach walk over you. How could you let that happen?" - esteem issue for that centipede incoming.

Yeh
I have a similar looking centipede with blue legs called Scolopendra viridis. Mine has a moist enclosure and has a network of tunnels in the substrate. It is mostly found in Florida, so the natural habitat may be different from yours. It only comes out at night, but it has a favorite resting spot in a tunnel next to the wall, so I can see it all the time. I usually put a roach in there, and the next morning I just find a couple legs and an empty shell. Sometimes I catch a softer insect, like a mayfly or alderfly and stick it in the enclosure as food instead. It went two months without eating when I first got it, but I always keep a water dish inside. It usually eats once or twice per week now. I've never had a centipede that just stays on the surface, or under cork bark.
5:52 yep my heart stop beating for a seconds and i shouted RUN!
lets unburrow and try to feed it, poke it more and make it escape and blame it on the centipede's bolt instead of me unborrowing him and poking it
Hi dark den. I hope u can do one video on how to care a centipede
soooo hyped for the moniter enclosure!
Another interesting video from Petko The Genius! I just ran across a house centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) the other day. Kinda creepy with it's crazy long legs. So interesting to watch it walk. Walking hair. LOL!

Like with most venomous creatures, you need to hunt them to find them. They're not crawling through major Croatian cities all day long lol

Exotics was looking for that
Oh man 2 centipede feeding videos in a few days :0 (Saw exotics lair post a centipede feeding vid yesterday) but man what a treat I love centipedes would not wanna get bit tho.
8:55 I use that very same pickup line.
These centipedes seem very stressed or perhaps they have ingested something bad when in the wild. Most pesticides don't have a direct affect on big insects like this, but they do ingest bugs that have been poisoned and can die from that.
Petko that wood will definitely add some class to a new pet home awesome
"Terminal" legs. Terminal as in to terminate, meaning legs where the body terminates, or ends. Translation? Legs where the body ends. "Terminal legs."
Once you cup a critter, slide a piece of paper, or card stock, under the cup. This can be done without harming a critter, and allows you to pick it up IN CUP, and drop it into its enclosure.
Love you Petko you're my Bratco nr. 1
Yasss, more centipedes
Common in croatia..
Use a fron enclosure, just add a stronger lock mechanism, so it can't wedge the door open with its head.
in the Netherlands, we have 2 types of centipedes one of orange color but much like this one and then no 2 is a small but long in shape centipede differing from orange to nearly white with a slight orange color the first one pretty much resides under leaf litter and logs while no 2 is underground fishermen searching and digging for worms often find these unlike no 1 that has no smell no2 smells foul so it definitely has a chemic defense system.
So nice your Dad supports your passion for centipedes.
Hello great video Petcko
At the end there it looked like the centipede was hugging the cockroach!
Before i watched a metal cover of 'At Dooms Gate" from the Doom sountrack... it works really well together with a centipede video
Leggy little lads/lasses!
* *uses scientific name* * KZread: "...and i took that personally"
I would definitely think it's scolopendra dalmatica. It's found almost everywhere in logs down in southern Croatia
They are Scolopendra dalmatica. Both Cingulata and dalmatica have different colour variations, and the ones you found match the dalmatica variation in the area they were found
I know absolutely nothing but i love your videos

They are Scolopendra Dalmatica for sure. You can check it on iNaturalist.
what a hilarious coincidence, i just got a big tattoo done yesterday of a centipede with blue legs
Petko - look Centipedes with blue legs! WITH BLUE LEGS! Oh I go to father to get THAT WOOD - LOOK THAT WOOD! :D
Missed you bro 😎
Centipedes scare me too many legs lol nope. trying to like them. I still watched the video. so I must a little like them lol ✌️💖😊🦎🕷️
Well I'm not a centipede expert, but out of the two croatian species this is definitely more similar to S. dalmatica. And yeah, the terminal legs do seem to be considerably longer than the rest, which is a trait of S. dalmatica based on my research (they're roughly the same lenght at S. cingulata). The blue legs are also commonly observed on S. dalmatica while cingulata usually has a more brownish-yellowish coloration, often with dark banding on each segment.
Those blue legs are mesmerizing!
Watching this and other tarantula/spider channels has really helped me to be much less freaked out by spiders, but I'm sorry, no amount of videos are ever gonna make me ok with centipedes!😳😖
Looks a lot like our Hemiscolopendra marginata we have here in Texas but ours has sort of striping to it and only blue antennae lol
Where I live we have Scolopendra cataracta, the only centipede that is known to be able to swim. And they look very similar to these! But I doubt they are cuz as far as I know that species is only found in northeastern Thailand.
You know that almost looks like the amphibious centipede.
Could you make a care and husbandry video for your centipedes? I'd love to own one but I'm not sure what substrate and things I should use..
Centipedes can escape very very easily. They can push heavy lids up, we've seen that happen before. Definitely needs latches
very interesting creatures!
Omg I saw those at a show but there so expensive there blue legs are so beautiful
They look similar to the Rhysida nuda that we get in Australia. Too brown though, our nudas are quite red with blue legs.
Keep up the good work man
or is it paradoxa i am confused by the blue legs lol
S. Dalmatica. S. Cingulata are heavily banded when young.
Beautiful😍
Scolopendra cingulata has immense colour variability. We don’t both so easily cover some of the extreme statements about them are what they are, extreme.
I seen something similar to that when i was fishing but it was a little tiny baby at first i thought it was a millipede but when i looked closer it was a tiny baby centipede with blue legs like those
That centapede is huge here in Québec Canada the're so small not even à inch .
Love the videos man. KEEP EM UP
i have been to croatia many times on vacation and ive seen 2 centipedes at least 20 cm in lengt. Never tried to catch one tho. Yellow legs completlely and brownish/orange body head in same color, didnt look at these two legs. You have to keep them for at least two years and see what will become out of them, im hoping its one of the ones i saw.

Nah they're an Asian species.
i think the 1st two blue centipedes are SP Bluemint 3-4 inch max size .
Wow, very beautiful blue color!
Hello Petko , i have a question, do Glomeris marginata live in Croatia? Here in the Netherlands only in the south , i heard that they are more common in the middle and east part of Europe.
I believe the species is leggiboi sp. frostifeetus
The one you dont know the name of is called Scolopendra polymorpha Wood
I found that centipede in my house . After watching this video kept it in my enclosure
I prefer millipedes...they are still weird, come in pretty colors, and get pretty big depending on species...and...best of all...they don't bite or move like something from the depths of hell.
I wish you would have posted a video of you actually finding them like herping videos
I've been trying to find videos on these mint legs!!! So hyped you made one with them
