I Found a 5,000 Year Old Native American Arrowhead while Artifact Hunting and Digging in Florida
Спорт
What a blast! It has been ages since I went out specifically looking for Native American arrowheads and other artifacts. When an old friend randomly mentioned that they had new property that might have a site on it, I knew I had to go check it out. Tons of signs of people living there in the past, including a projectile point (which is actually a spear head or knife, not arrowhead) from approximately 5,000 years ago!
Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see me come back here and hunt a little more. I only had a few hours on this hunt, but there is no telling what else might be here (or how long until something is built right on top of the site).

Hey Cris! Just wondering, is this site registered or known to other local archeologists? I feel that if it is an important site it should probably undergo a proper excavation. I worry digging holes and removing artifacts without fully recording their place in situ removes a lot of context for these objects and eliminates/misses other valuable information about these communities that can be found in the soil/sand. You're probably aware of all this and have got this question before, it just was a concern I had when watching the video. Thanks!

Sam, I doubt the specific site is registered, but the entire area is known to have an incredible concentration of sites from this time period. Nearly every pond, lake, sinkhole or river/stream in this area has sites on the high ground near them. I rarely hear about run of the mill sites like this being excavated by any professionals unless there is something very special about it. If I find out there is something special about this site, I’d be the first to talk to the land owner about bringing in professionals before septic tanks are put in and buildings built on the property.
I am absolutely amazed that your terminology for everything is so accurate. Calling it Chert, saying preform, etc etc. Props for keeping it entertaining and educational!
Love the videos thank you for what you do even getting stung and going through a thunderstorm my grand kids are going to love this one when i show them tonight thanks for helping me be a.cool grand mother

I don't know about Yellowjackets in the South but up here in Minnesota they get really aggressive in September as cooler temperatures approach.
That lizard at 3:18 is called a southern fence lizard, use to catch those bois as a kid. The males get blue scales on their bellies they’re really cool

Beautiful point. Thanks for another great video
I grew up in cent. Fla. '60s. It's good to see gopher burrows and fence lizards/skinks again.
I was just doing the same yesterday on another private property! I managed to find around twenty points and other broken tools. I’d love to see more videos like this. Super fun and interesting!

PaleoCris Yeah, it’s a pretty great spot! Seems like it was a production area at the time. About 5000 to 7000 years old. Luckily the weather was more cooperative for me. That point you found is beautiful though!

Ty, Chris 4 bein respectful 2 Native American land cuz I'm an 1/8 of Creek from the Creek Tribe here in Oklahoma....:)
Awesome Newnan or Marion . Never can tell tell the difference unless they are really big with perfect symmetry but those are few and far between . I'd dig the place as long as I could . A sight like that is worth a sore back . Good find !
You need to get the Rochester, MI, Dinosaur Park. A boy just found a huge Mammoth tooth laying on top. There must be more under the soil. There was a whole Mammoth found on a farm in Michigan in the 70's
Definitely want more ! The respect you have for the people and the genuine curiosity about how they lived is amazing ! :)
What a trooper you are, most people would of gone home with that rain.. thank you for staying and sharing...😊

Yes definitely more artifact finding videos. This is awesome.
That is a beautiful point!!! All that work paid off. Great video! Thanks for taking us along!
I could watch you for hours non stop and unedited. You are the absolute most precious person. ❤
I love when y'all look for artifacts it's sweet to see what your going to find cause u never no what your going to get when you look for artifacts
Hooboy, loved this video! Except for the yellowjackets, I'm allergic so aaaaargh. Anyway-- considering the size and probable age of that point, I'd bet on it being an atlatl point and a real beauty too! It always drives me crazy when people call *all* of them 'arrowheads' (so thanks for not doing that!) when bows and arrows only date back about 2500-3000 years ago in North America as far as anyone's found to date, anyway, though that's always up for debate. Atlatl darts would carry points like that just beautifully, though-- man, I bet somebody was so pissed off when they lost their beautiful point! It's really fine work, and chert's kind of a pain to knap, even the really good stuff-- whoever made that point had some really amazing skills. Have to say, I love seeing all that white sand; it reminds me so much of home and finding my first arrowhead. I found it on the banks of a stream in NW Florida that had been dredged out to open up a spring, and it was white chert too, just a little thing but perfectly shaped and probably not as old as yours... Alachua, maybe? Something like that.
YAY! So psyched to see a new video from you! Love it when you find your shark teeth but this is a great way to switch it up and finding these arrowheads it's just so exciting. Thanks again, I learned something like I always do
Amazing finds! That agatized coral point is so neat!
One thing is building that great rapport with land owners...Once that happens your reputation will proceed you and will you never be denied the opportunity to cross across their properties and search...
Super point - congratulations! Great videos, I thoroughly enjoy them.
Absolutely a killer find!! Congrats on the find and a new site! 👍
Interesting and fun. Yes, please go back to that site!
Recently found your channel and love it! Native artifacts are my passion, so I would DEFINITELY love to see more vids of this nature! That was a beautiful Dickson point by the way!
Awesome video bro. I’m with you in learning about what I’ve found and thinking what life was like back then. Makes what I’ve found even more special aka awesome!!!
Some lovely finds keep searching for those arrow heads would love to find them
Fascinating area Chris. You need to do some more exploring like that of course when the weather's better. I look forward to the next video
I'm from Pensacola Florida and I found an arrowhead at the airport where I work. I believe I found it over 5 years ago. Right the edge of the parking lot in the dirt area just laying there.
Love this video. So exciting to find something that’s from hundreds of years to a thousands of year old.
I think that’s one of the best points I’ve seen. Very bilateral.
Super cool find! Would love to see more. Thanks for explaining your techniques and for the historical information.

Definitely a newnan point type. Nice find!
Please Do This Again!! This was so fun to watch.
Nice find, I found 2 arrowheads on a friends property here in Colorado just a few feet from each other after a huge rainstorm, it's such an awesome feeling!
Wow, that was a beautiful find!
Really in joy your vids
What a wonderful find.
Congratulations on the great point! Some of the flakes may have been small knives. Thanks for sharing & H.H.!
Love the video I'm from Florida also in the big bend area and we are finding a lot of this stuff
Great job! I love getting and hunting for points all thou I dont dig I normally just surface find. Also loving finding fossils. I have found alot of Echiniods.
Loved this! You should do more digging videos like this!
Nice point find! Holy cow!
I believe those fresh water shells are a trash midden, an excellent place to dig.
Cris I love the videos you make!!! This was awesome and very educational. I can’t wait to tell my students to check out your latest episode!!! I find you and Kyle so inspiring that I branched out in my art class channel to include some digging adventures for gems and fossils!! Please keep up the fantastic work!!! Let me know if you are ever in the NY catskill area and I’ll take you to some cool Devonian fossil sites!!!!
Absoutly beautiful arrowhead‼️ 💜💙💚💛🧡❤
I've used to live on a ranch in Comanche County, Texas and we found dozens of arrow heads without digging. We just used to walk the creek and dirt roads on our own property and you found them laying around on the ground. We never had to dig. I miss the ranch so much!!!
I was wondering, and please excuse my ignorance, but given that fossilised sharks' teeth are so plentiful in Florida, did the local native americans ever used them as arrow heads, spearheads or weapons in general? I'm from the UK so it's all new to me. But really enjoying watching your videos!
@RichardHeadGaming

People in dif parts of the world left behind tools that did use teeth, why reinvent the sharp pointy thing to make a weapon. Anyone creative could have easily used sharks teeth to make weapons but does not mean there is proof of it left behind.
@BlueCephSquid
4 жыл бұрын
Not ignorant at all! A lot of coastal tribes would use sharks teeth for cutting fibers and sometimes weapons, however a finely chipped edge is preferable as it is razor sharp, often fossilized teeth can be dull and only harm when you apply a lot of force. That was a great inference man
@LloydBlake89

@@RichardHeadGaming Maori Warriors used a club like weapon which was ridged with shark teeth for cutting. Not only that but they also used stingray barbs to make spears.

Hi, Cris, sorry you found yellow jackets first--ugh and ouch! I love finding arrowheads and seeing others look for them, so please, look all you can! The agatized coral piece could also have been a section of a knife, very cool find and excellent material. And the point was beautiful! Looks like lots of opportunities at that site! I have watched a few of your videos, and may I say I am quite jealous you get to pull history out of the ground. I wish I could do that but wouldn't know where to start. Please make more of these videos I'd love to see more. 😘
Fantastic find!
Keep up the great videos 😀👍
Yes more artifacts please
Man that was cool! You and Wild Kyle need to tag team that spot!
Nice finds man your saving history from the ground.
Cool find man. That is a nice one. I found this road cut that is like a mile high almost and terraced...there are fossils EVERYWHERE. I will try and start getting on videos next month
Wow awesome find
I'm in FL and use to do a lot of this. For sure do some more videos like this.
I HOPE YOU SEE THIS,put a sifter where you were shoveling (where you found the arrowhead) just in case you shoveled anything that could be something good :)

Awesome find
great vid! 🤙🏼
I found a big fossil my buddy Cris. UAU your video is amazing

Woo, thank you! 😁
I loved the video Cris. I'd like to see your future artifact trips to this spot and others. I haven't found much in the way of Native American Artifacts, but it's very interesting to me. I've spent time searching gravel bars in local creeks and lake shorelines in my area with limited success. Either I don't have the eye for this type of thing, aren't looking at the right spots, or just not very lucky. You have an eye for this stuff and it's really cool. Remember the hammer stone that you found on our trip? I picked it up and saw a fossil rock, tossed it in my spoil pile, then you picked it up and said, "do you know what this is?" I was clueless. But, I'm learning!. Please continue to share your thoughts on the culture of the people that left those treasures, that's interesting as well. Thanks again for sharing your video adventures.
I like all your videos Chris you you're very intelligent you give great knowledge to people it it's it's great whatever you do is alright with us I mean seriously you are very very knowledgeable and that's what fantastic you seem to know what you're talkin about and you give everybody straight up answers get a little crazy when you with Kyle but other than that LOL
Great video!!
Cris, this is one of my favorite subjects outside music, space and physics to name a few. I also find fossils wherever I go. I love finding native artifacts. Though, the pieces I find are from different a people. Love watching. Sorry you got stung.

That’s awesome Lana! Glad to hear from another person who gets out there and hunts for this sort of thing. I also love space and actually do a little astrophotography when I can (I’m not great at it yet). As far as the yellow jackets, I probably stepped on their home, so I deserved it. 😂
Greetings @PaleoCris I am a new subscriber to your channel which caught my eye because I live on the Borders of the Ocala Nat. Forest in Central FL. and I was instantly drawn in, I am a disabled senior and my locale is rife with these types of areas, I am studying up on Native Tribes and spots which may be good to look, my property is on a small Lake with what I was told is a natural spring that is very very deep, I am not looking to dive at my age but if you have any tips on hunting in general I would appreciate it, I am learning lots just from your vids thanks for a new way to pass my time and keep up the fine work, be well and stay safe.
That is a beautiful point !!! I’m jealous bro 😏
I loved you video. Reminds me of what I used to do in Texas and New Mexico. I'm old and have arthritis now and can't do it. Keep those videos coming. My sister lives in Florida (Palatka) and we've been there and found Shark teeth on the beach. Maybe I should move there, but I stii wouldn't be able to walk much. Nice point you found. Keep em coming.
