Making my way through your videos - very refreshing format! Just a pro tip....when making skirts or dresses, especially with lots of swoosh and depending on the fabric it's sometimes a good idea to let the bias drop for a week or so before hemming. BTW hubby walked in while I was watching this. I asked if he wanted me to change the show. He said "nope....she's funny and entertaining to watch."

Hahaha I love that! I definitely never expected to have an audience outside of makers themselves, so it's awesome that ya'll can watch together and have fun!

A wrap-front shirt seems like a really good use for those fabrics that are just a bit too sheer -- you can get the extra coverage in the front, and the extra coolness in the back.

You make sewing so much fun!! I love to watch your creativity at work. I’ve been sewing since I was 12 and I just turned 66 this week. I sure don’t feel or look it thank God but I still do stupid things so don’t feel bad I recently cut out a dress pattern and the front pieces I cut the design in the wrong direction. The little flowers are upside down. Does it show??? A little if you look close. I finished the dress anyway cause I love the fabric. So you see we all make mistakes and the seam ripper becomes our best friend. That’s how you learn. I still have to learn to check twice before cutting. Love your videos they make me laugh

Lol yes cutting it at a 45 degree angle is what bias cut means. And depending on what piece it is/where it is, the bias is important for stretchy-ness and how well it will fit you. My favorite sewing phrase I've adapted from KZreadrs is "trust the process"! I'm a sewist myself and I started watching your channel to learn more about embroidery, but I love watching your sewing journey! Everything you say is such a mood! 😂❤❤

I tend to stick to the (trust the process) when doing my crochet and card crafting and I really need to adapt it to the sewing if I get way thru and feel it's not looking as I want I tend to start again but it's a total waste as a lot of work goes into it and I need to make myself sticking with it and not keep re starting as in my daughters corset to go with the skirt for the prom dress I got 3/4 thru the first one then decided I wasn't happy so started a new one really need to keep reminding myself to (trust the process) maybe I shud make a plaque and put it above my sewing machine lol but I only started sewing aug 23 and made first clothing item Jan 24 lots to learn

You know how people put their pointer fingers and thumbs together to make a diamond, but the sides are rounded? You could insert a piece shaped like that into the bust area of the blue dress to give you room. |\__/| | /\ | | \/ | / \ Then it would fit and also give you a little ~design~ like it was on purpose.

This is the prettiest capsule EVER 💖💖💖 I feel like a lot of sewists who post these still keep in mind mixing the garments into the rest of their wardrobes and it ends up being so neutral-embrace the color! Your capsule is giving fun elementary teacher vibes and its everything I want my closet to be 😂🎉

Been sewing for 50-plus years, the one thing I have learned is the garment is only as good as the care it is made with. I like to have fun sewing but am way too compulsive to let go and sew.

I actually love th blue dress, I think it looked the best on you from all of them, when worn by itself.

My mum started me sewing; then high school teacher completely turned me off sewing; then started to self teach as an adult and realised that I can make mistakes and its not a world ending problem - you can correct it or live with it! If only my sewing teacher had been more like you.

Lol, I’m famous for making my seam allowances too small and therefore the garment too big when following a pattern. But knowing they include such a big seam allowance has allowed me to squeeze patterns onto fabric that was slightly smaller than recommended.

AWESOME !!! An idea for the top with the tie ? How about putting a slit on each side of the waistband so you could thread them through and tie them at the back ? like a ballet top ? Thanks for sharing ;D

That's a great idea! I was running out of fabric and couldn't make the ties any longer, but I could add a ribbon or twill tape to the ends instead.

I love your videos. I have been sewing since I was 4. There was a long break when I was raising my kids. But I am back at it. I still have to unpick things. It is just part of the process.

I used to have that same polka dot fabric 13ish years ago! I made an infinity dress out of it (don't ask me why I used a woven fabric for a dress that that needs a knit). It looks great on you!

It's funny you mention leaving too much seam allowance--my mutti had been sewing for decades, and some of her patterns came out fine and some needed cutting way down (she leaves a fair amount of seam allowance, but this was still excessive). Turns out, she wasn't using the right seam allowance, either, because German patterns are drafted net, and she somehow mentally skipped over that part of the instructions on patterns she got in English.

It's never complete until you iron your hems and seams :)

This is great! All the pieces are cute in themselves and they go so well together! As someone who is almost exclusively sewing with non-stretchy fabric I know some of the reverse struggles when sewing with stretchy fabric :D For the blue dress I'd recommend inserting some under arm gussets, just little triangles to you more room in the bust. And maybe straightening out the hem. I think it could be a very cute peace with some minor adjustments :)

Thoroughly entertained ALWAYS. Had to go back to spot the hand cramp while cutting, don’t know why.

To make the blue dress fit better and to make it easier to get on, you can put a side seam zipper in.

Enjoyed. Really wish I could see better. Hate the sun 100.00 machine I bought 15 years ago for what project… who knows. Wait it was probably closer to 25 years ago. I struggle with it not sewing most days. Should I just invest in a better machine and get lessons on it in JoAnns. You may be inspiring me. Thank you! So many pieces you made might be the right pattern with a tweak. The orange, in a dark chambray fabric could be a go to item. It was super flattering, but a bit small in places. Totally worth it. Again thank you for sharing your work.

So, I have a suggestion. There are a plethora of free patterns on Mood. The Bridgerton dress for one made me think of this. If you use a pdf pattern, it gives you a lot more opportunity to "hack" the pattern. Have you tried to use PDF patterns?

I have a friend who gets her patterns printed at shops that do blueprints, but thats hit or miss on wether or not itll be $3 or $30 based on the shop....also the irony of paying to print a free pattern is not lost on me xD

I really like the style of the orange top my daughter loves that type of top so I may work out a pattern to create one I dnt tend to use bought patterns as 1) I like my items to be more individual 2) I get annoyed trying to figure out which bit goes where the pattern papers flimsy and half the time the fit isn't the best so I work to the measurements I need create my templates and work from them

Did the pattern not tell you to snip into the slit at the front of the blouse? It’s still doable after the fact if you’re willing to unpick and re sew any finishing stitches like zig zagged edges. Love how you keep it real, the seam ripper is my best friend 🤣

Your blue slip dress….what I would do is cut a new neck etc slightly lower down where the fabric is wider, therefore it would be bigger. No idea if that’s the right way, but I also just wing things so 🤷🏼‍♀️ 😂

Try turning the red ? Top backwards would be supa cute and comfortable in summer .. but any way bravo .. love them

Yes. Seam allowances for clothing are 5/8". Yes, that *IS* ridiculous. I watched a youtuber sew french seams, without any alteration to a commercial garment pattern. (1/4, then 3/8) and laughed my ass off cuz if you can french seam it with no additional planning, those seams are ENORMOUS! - a quilter and bra maker.

It doesn’t help that there’s no industry standard, some are 5/8”, some are 1/2” or 1cm, I honestly do a ‘there or thereabouts’ unless it’s a detail that needs a specific SA because my old brain gets confused just looking at a pattern these days 😂

I had the exact same issue (at 9:28) during my last Adventure in Making Tops, I still don't know how to solve it. If you figure it out please let us all know.

I think it would be difficult to line a pleated skirt. They seem to have attached underskirts if anything.
