I *FINALLY* bought a New Electric Truck!!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I have been waiting YEARS for today. The time has finally come for me to accept delivery of my new electric truck. Usually buying a brand new vehicle is a terrible financial decision. And it still is. For sure. But Ill walk you through a bit of my logic behind the purchase of this new Rivian R1T. I also review a lot of electric vehicles on my channel, so while it does make sense for me to have one - that might not be true for everyone. Luckily there are a lot of options to choose from!

If you want to bring that Rivian's tow range up, the gear tunnel is the perfect size for a hydrogen tank. You could throw a fuel cell into the truck bed or under the back seats, have it trickle charge the battery. Sounds like a really fun Jerry Rig project and I'd imagine the range could double.

@@fasfan there are a lot more ways of generating power than just burning coal. Natural gas is another big one and is arguably cleaner than coal, but aside from fossil fuels there are things such as hydro (both dams and tidal), solar, wind, and nuclear, all of which are significantly more clean than fossil fuels in the long run. So while EVs aren't everything they are actually an important part of ensuring a sustainable future as even with burning fossil fuels for electricity, it is more efficient to generate that electricity at scale and distribute it than it is to refine oil to make gasoline or diesel and distribute it at scale.

@@fasfan that's just current, and for most people who drive to and from work, that argument doesn't matter. That's without considering that most of the US is having a lot of charging stations being built up. Right now, if super rural, I'd probably look at plug in hybrid as it will be cheaper to run than gas, issue is actually being able to get one, cars in general the last year have become a bit scarce, hopefully chip shortage being better now will sort it out.

The horsepower should be divided by 15 instead of multiplied by 15 for comparing to actual horses. One horse can output 15 horsepower. So roughly 56 horses! (Which is still a lot of horses lol)

The numeric horsepower is based on a whacky comparison to maximum loading of real horses, hence the 746 watts per 1 horsepower. The original definition doesn't mean anything at all about steady state, which is why most of the world has started to switch to different units.

Yea thats my take at probably over $100k for his spec, not many can afford that. I actually ordered a Hybrid Maverick, which took about 8 months to get, to hold me over till the Electrics either come down in price or something better comes along. Another thing when you talk about value, at probably $100k for that truck, and most trucks costing around $3-4k in gas per year so it really would take over 15 years to even out with a $40k midsize (what the R1T is) Truck. EVs just cannot compete in the value category yet. On top of that you would have the 50-60k you could have spent on the EV truck sitting in an investment fund paying for your gas.
