So adorable that Jay did her best to incorporate that big twig, just because her mate seemed to like it so much. Took them both a while, but eventually she found a place for it.

@notfiveo that happened to my sister's cat all the time. You could often tell exactly where he was in the neighbourhood, because the birds would be having fits about his presence. They would dive bomb him also, while he walked completely casually down the street. Maybe that's a badge of kitty honour? He brought small animals and birds home to leave on the doorstep for my sister sometimes, especially if she got sick.

Oh what a compliment Jay is paying you by choosing to build the nest so close to your home where you can watch all of the comings and goings. You'll see the eggs, hatching, feeding, fledging, the entire works start to finish. Exciting!!

Mr and Mrs Jay are pretty smart. They're shortening the commute distance to their food source. I think it's also a compliment they consider her a consistent source of food.

@@LuckyBaldwin777 I would think same. When my Jay's came around I was so flattered and then I told myself not to flatter myself, I am a food source that they can call to and I hurry outside. Like I was food delivery. But, over time, I saw that they recognize me. And they do not bother other animals, they actuallly get along very well. They watch my squirrels and if they see one go by with peanut, they instantly come over. I just love them. All of my outside friends.

blue jays are actually vicious carnivore predators. They eat baby birds and do sometimes eat chipmunks

I had a pet Blue jay when I was a small kid. I found her as a baby on the ground with a broken wing. I scooped her up in my baseball cap (funnily, I played little league baseball on the "Blue jays" at the time), and we took her to a special vet that we had to drive a town over to see. We raised her up to young adult hood and then let her fly free from her cage. She stayed in our back yard for a long time, probably making babies and such. Ah, good times...

I can’t stop laughing at him bringing a huge branch then getting an earful from her before she goes to get branches on her own. They’re just like us.😂

Bluejays are the chipmunks of the air. They swallow multiple peanuts sometimes to carry them back to their nest, like a chipmunk with their pouches. Also they are extreme peanut addicts. I love bluejays.

You live in such a beautiful place, with such beautiful animals...it looks like a piece of Heaven! 🐿🕊🙏💕

6 years ago I had the honor of watching a blue jay couple build a nest right outside my window. I enjoyed watching this, and those slow mo’s of them flying were great. Birds are amazing 😊

Really sweet watching Jay and her significant other build their nest. You have a gorgeous view.

I am so happy! I knew she would come back. She just needed to spend winter somewhere else. You are probably right about who is male and who is female, but here are a couple of other things to look for: 1) If a blue jay makes rattling noises while bobbing up and down, it's almost certainly a female. 2) If a blue jay feeds a seed (or other food) to its mate, that is most likely the male feeding the female. I hope the nesting is successful!

@@wildbikerbill6530 My wife and I had a blue jay that started coming around us last September she followed us everywhere, flew on our shoulders, we had a bird bath for her or him on the porch, she would rinse off or drink some water, we had food out for the bluejay, she used to look in the house and make her bird call letting us know she wants to come outside or to get her some more food, then early October came around and she didn't come around anymore, we still see her flying with other bluejays so shes still in the neighborhood, but I wonder if she will be back again in September again.. I guess we'll find out

I've been feeding the same Blue Jay for 6 months.... and I have 3 Cardinals that will chirp outside my window continuously until I bring out the food. This has been going on for months.... as soon as I open my sliding glass doors, put the food down and whistle..... within seconds they approach.... and now they don't even mind if I'm 5 feet away. Absolutely beautiful birds...... I've grown very fond of these feathered friends as I know they appreciate all I do.

Truly… you are a magnet for the wild things 💞 Slowly you are being surrounded by creatures great & small. Now, I wonder if (when 😉) the doe will return with her last year’s fawn & a new little one. As I remember, she felt a trust in you as she left her baby near your home when she went off to feed. And, then would lay down to rest in your yard in broad daylight . Pretty amazing. 💝

That flying! its amazing how it flaps and jumps to propel itself upwards then closes its wings for a moment before opening again to slow its decent.

Your home is marvelous… what a beautiful setting for your wildlife friends. I adore chipmunks and helped my mother rehabilitate so many wild injured birds.. we were able to release most of these precious birds back into the wild but those that could not be released due to physical limitations became family. They had their own cages to rest in, total freedom of our home to wander and roam in and 3 specialized meals a day. We spent hours entertaining them as they entertained us. How lucky you are to be able to love wildlife and be a part of their lives. Bravo

Blue Jays are Covids, like crows and ravens. They are smart and solve complex problems. Finding food is no longer an issue because smart Mrs. Jay watched the chippies eating and now visits her friend Choo Choo, too. Building a nest close to the food is brilliant.

I've never seen birds actually build a nest before. That was cute. They worked as a team. A bird has built a nest on top of the light on the backside of my house. There are 4 hungry baby birds in there now. I watch them everyday.
