I love how they all come one by one for the snacks. Like off camera there is a long queue of birds patiently waiting for their turn.

There's a popular hike up a small mountain near my home, and the birds at the end of the trail are very used to people feeding them. They'll land on your hand for bits of granola bar or whatever. But you can always see 5 or 6 of them queuing up in the trees for their turn. Sometimes one bird tries to cut in line and the others yell at them. It's so cute.

Birds don't have enough tastebuds on their tongue to register flavor. The number of tastebuds on their tongue is literally too low to taste anything in any meaningful way.

@@kingconcerto5860 Birds can definitely taste, it’s just different from humans. Experiments have been done and they will not drink water that is too salty or too bitter. Birds usually have excellent vision and small toothless mouths, so they are naturally precise with what they eat. As a result they don’t need very sensitive smell or taste to “find” their food, but they can indeed catch a “glimpse” of taste. Which is why this jay needs to eat the worm several times to “understand” the taste
@kingconcerto5860

@@jirf Sure, which is why I said the number of tastebuds are too low to taste in "any meaningful way". People who watched this video annoyingly think it ate a mealworm and registered some sort of expression of "I liked that!". As you said, it needed to eat several before it even understood the taste. As far as the water- yes, "too" salty and "too" bitter. Add enough salt or bitterant and of course they'll taste it eventually.

Dyou see how rapidly they pivot their heads to get a view of everything? Birds' visual-spacial are S-class. The eyes themselves are pretty nuts. But what's even more impressive is how much spacial information they can resolve on the fly, from every sense they have that provides spacial cues. They can build highly complex pictures in their heads of their physical reality, and they remember them. Birds always know where they're at like they know everything around them. If not for that they'd all have crashed out or been eaten by predators many, many millennia back. Their eyes are orders of magnitude better than ours (the lil bastards even see UV) and their little bird brains can chew through more spacial information than us. Dang, their ears resolve more information than ours. We should be talking to birds man, they *see* stuff, and they *hear* things. Nah, but given these traits, it's no wonder we can't comprehend doing what they do. We gotta broaden our perception maaaannn

I live in Korea and the characters I use are proud Hangul.😎🇰🇷
@scobeymeister1
2 ай бұрын
@@consciousdreamlifecreators9716 Feeling like giving an impromptu linguistics lesson this morning, why not 😂 It's the Korean language, and the characters are called Hangul. It's not exactly like the English alphabet - most characters are made up of two pieces. In English, our letters tend to correspond to a single sound* - one consonant OR one vowel, and never both. We have to string a bunch of them together horizontally to get a syllable. But in Korean Hangul, most characters have a piece that contains a vowel and a piece that contains a consonant and those are stacked one on top of the other, so a single character has more information about the sound of it packed into a tighter unit. So yes, in that way, it is kind of like shorthand compared to English! If you translated my comment into Korean it would look a lot smaller (fewer characters) to convey the same meaning! But spoken out loud, it would be (roughly) the same length I believe. Hope this satisfied that curiosity. Keep it burning, friend 😊 *WHICH sound each letter corresponds to is a whole other linguistic mess. Word of the day is "orthography" for further learning. English orthography is a total crapshow lol, it's a running joke among linguistics nerds You might also enjoy a couple channels I follow if you're interested in this kind of thing. NativeLang is a great starter resource for getting into linguistics generally, and jan misali is who got me into conlangs (short for "constructed languages"), which are languages people make up as a hobby. It's all extremely nerdy 😅
