I Drove 500 Miles For A 10 Minute Job.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I got a call to tow an EarthCrusier that was having engine troubles about 250 miles into the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately my rollback is STILL in the shop and they have nothing more than guesses as to what's wrong, so I called my buddy Matt with Tumalo Transport and he was kind enough to let me borrow my old @bwsmanufacturing trailer so I could go get it. The trip went really smooth and my new @SeriousTrucks Western Star ran as good as could be without even the slightest hiccup. The only almost issue was when I came over a hill and there were some cows in the road. With as much as I'm running in these open range areas, I'm thinking I need to get a @HERDnorthamerica bumper on this truck ASAP!

Back in the summer of 99 I rode my motorcycle from Portland out that way. The trip was taking longer than expected, and I got to the little gas station there in Burns Junction about 30 minutes after it closed. I thought I was going to have to ride back to Burns. But a kind hearted little old lady that owned the place came out in her nightgown and robe to unlock the pump for me. We need more people like her❤ and Casey in this world!

I was sure happy when we got the whole DEF system deleted on our 2014 Dodge. As soon as it passed 160,000 kms. (Warranty period ended.) it started using DEF like crazy. We got the system deleted and the cat all knocked out of it. We got a big boost in power and fuel mileage. The silly thing is, when the DEF cycle starts, it pours more raw diesel into the burner to make it work, so there goes your fuel mileage. The DEF was more expensive than the diesel, per litre.

They do sell DEF in bulk at most truck stop fuel stations to pick your DEF fill-up spots wisely. Most trucks can go 3-4 plus fill-ups without DEF. And for the record, DEF has a lot chemically in common with human urine so there is that.

DEF is basically just concentrates piss (urea and water) and is considered non-toxic and safe to handle.. The stuff on those wipes is probably more toxic so eating your snacks without wiping would only be the equivalent of eating without washing your hands after you use the bathroom...

I have a Ford 6.0 Powerstroke made day 3 of production. It has a Garret variable rate turbo on it. They are notorious for the moving parts in them seizing up from rust. Ford says the turbo is not serviceable and has to be replaced. Some Ford diesel mechanics say that is BS . . . you can wire wheel the rust out of it and then lubricate it with nickel anti-seize (the nickel stuff is the only one that will handle the high temperatures). I have done it to mine and it works.

It's fascinating seeing how other vehicles (and I assume this is the normal way) do jake brakes. The only vehicles I've driven with exhaust brakes are farm tractors, and that's a button that you press with the heel of your left foot. So right foot on the main brake, left foot on the jake. Makes it a lot harder to accidentally activate unless your passenger is messing with you.

IvI've been driving 30 years, information you may or may not know, if your tractor has the idle shutdown program and you don't want to pay for the reflash, instead of setting tractor brakes, just set trailer brakes. It normally allows it to remain idling. AC or heat stays working. Just info shared.

The DEF fluid and the catalytic converter it flows into basically pops apart the nitrogen monoxide (NO), one oxygen atom and one nitrogen that got bonded together in the high temperatures-high pressures combustion chamber back into nitrogen and oxygen that air is mostly made of. Hopefully I payed attention enough in that class to get that close to being right. 🙂 I noticed years ago when driving on open range land, dirt roads mostly, that if there is cattle on the road that the cows will turn around and go the other way from witch they are pointing the the steers will go the way they are pointing. I am telling this to make you watch and add a little entertainment to your drives on and off road.

It's actually not a toxic chemical. It's quite safe. DEF is Urea and water. You have urea in your body as a natural byproduct (urine), although the urea in DEF is synthesized in a factory. It is quite safe for humans and other animals, however it is corrosive to some metals. Urea is often used in medications. It is also used in fertilizers as it is very high in nitrogen. In the hot exhaust system it converts to Ammonia. The ammonia then reacts with a catalyst to break down the NOx in to nitrogen and water vapor.

We use DEF in our Diesel school buses, it can create problems if you let get below 1/2 tank.

It's urea, Aka "synthetic nitrogen". Makes for dark green grass. When diluted in water and spray it on grass. Followed by a heavy watering. Couple days later golf course green or burnt yellow if the mix isn't right. Lol kinda like the exhaust mix goes from safe to deadly real quick.

Same line Mexico. If you kill a chicken you pay for it if you kill a whole bunch of chickens, you pay for all of them crossing the road.

That would be over 20 years ago on a couple of different years/trips that I took the highway 20 from Ontario over to Bend area the first time and thought wow, its certainly a desolate semi desert. The next time I took highway 26 across and a marked difference in the landscape with more trees and hay fields etc. Up here in Alberta people have this vision of Oregon being a treed forest landscape from corner to corner who have never been to Oregon or only were closer to the coast.
