I Drive New York
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
When you want to drive your vintage car, how far do you travel to get to it? Possibly into your garage or out to your driveway? For those vintage car enthusiasts in New York City that is the stuff of dreams. Owning a car in NYC is rare, and owning a vintage car is even rarer, but those who do are committed to the lifestyle. For these three owners, getting to their cars is almost a ritual in itself, and nothing brings more pleasure than slipping behind the wheel of a car that has as much personality and history as the city itself. Like many things in New York City, nothing comes easy, but the challenge makes it all the more worth it.

This could be a series, city dwellers driving cars. The freedom speaks for itself.
Obviously the cars are the stars in Your videos, but the way you bring out the owners personality is fantastic

Exactly correct. Well said, sir.
this is the real meanig of a true car lover
I absolutely loved this story. I mean these are normal people who love their classic cars. Baja Bug in Manhattan, what a contrast.
In Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where I live is the same thing: you don't really need a car, public transport is pretty good and you can bike everywhere. But it is good to have a car for those days off when you just want to go for a drive and chill out a bit.

Yes!!! If you live or have lived in NYC, owning a car to get away from that madness and enjoy some nature is key to your survival. It was for me at least.
The car hobby needs more folks like Yale. His attitude is spot on!
i drive my 30 year old mercedes to work to school and to the mall and i love spending time in my car. i dont get angry when i have to be in traffic
A NY AW11 MR2 owner checking in. Can confirm having fun driving an old car around here.

Is AW11 considered old? Am I old? Is an NA Miata also old?

I had one when I was 16, it was an 87 Mr2 and I nearly crashed it on a dirt road the first day I had it. I put 60,000 hard miles on that car and sold it to buy a 1991 Mr2 2 years later. In all I had 5 Mr2's (not at the same time), that was over 20 years ago and now I'm getting into some old aircooled 911's.
I live in Manhattan and 100% agree with everything the Porsche man is saying! Although not vintage, I drive an older model Mercedes and I pay about $500 to keep it parked a few blocks from my house. Many people ask me why and sometimes even look at me like I’m stupid for having a car in New York City. I really think they’re completely missing the point. I don’t use my car do get to work, shop or even go to a friend’s house. Nobody does. I use it solely for recreational drives only. It’s such a lovely thing to have in a mad city like this. I love taking long drives up to bear mountain and other places I’ve never explored in and around NYC. Late at night, it’s just me in my tiny metal shell, with an amazing sound system and 1000s of miles of free open road just outside of the city. I’m glad to see there are other people like me who go out of their way to own a car in a city that makes it impossible for you to do so.
I love the old rustic garages, hideaways that are really sheds, converted horse stables, etc... where people stow away their pieces. Also-real class act, including the Baja.. I love that.
Petrolicious: The greatest collection of automotive videos that will make you weep. Not out of sadness but out of happiness. Out of observing true love for automobiles.
After having lived in Manila, Beijing and Bangkok, driving in NYC is like a drive in the country side. It's all about perspectives.
I saw this car once driving down West Side Highway. Awesome seeing a car like this being driven especially in NYC!
I owned the GTV6 in the video after this owner...great car. Sounded beautiful on the road.
I can't get over how well these are filmed!! Again, I will preach the same thing. Simply awesome video!
Alfa owner is Jamie Kitman's son-Editor at Automobile Magazine.
That was fucking awesome ... my same sentiments exactly ... sometimes just sitting in my 94 ex civic coupe ... I was amazed, while cocooned inside ... thinking, this thing is like a space ship ... transporting me wherever I want to freaking go ... amazing ... you bond with that feeling ... I freaking miss that car ... I seriously thinking about getting another one!

Daniel Silva mark hurston It sounds ridiculous saying such a thing about a civic but I had a 2003 Si for a bit (from new to about 3 years ago) and loved it to pieces. Unfortunately got in an accident with it.. RIP :(

Always hitting the trifecta with these videos. Environment, people and the cars tell an absolutely poetic story.
What a sound . And the gtv6 . These guys have resolve.
What an interesting perspective of owning a car in the big city, something I take for granted on the West coast and why I love love this car channel, no one touches base on something like this, great job guys.
Gosh, where I live I have the car just down my house and some of the nicest roads at just 2/3 minutes drive. Which is cool when you just wake up in the middle of the night and you grab the car and go for a ride. Then I see these guys living in Manhattan who have to travel to get to the car and... I kind of feel sorry for them. But it's probably part of the game of living in such a unique and beautiful city
Its great to see these guys just enjoying their cars. They have it tougher than most who drive their classics, but for their commitment and dedication I'd be willing to bet their reward is twofold.
Live, and love classic's! Until you have you one, you just can't grasp how special they are! 1947 Cadillac Series 62, owner here. I break down all the time, but I always have a smile on my face... I love my Classic!
3:26 That sound...is everything!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I live in Hendersonville, NC, about a two hour drive from the Tail of the Dragon. It's a gorgeous rural area. I own a 2006 Volkswagen GTI Autobahn Edition, I know it's not a vintage car, but I really do enjoy driving it. Just about every weekend, I take it out, row through the gears, listen to the turbo, and put all the stress from the week behind me. Part of me wants to modify it, but the other part says it perfectly enjoyable as is. But she's not cheap to maintain, I'm only a lube tech at Hunter Subaru and don't make that much. I've want this car for six years, and now I own one, and it brings a smile to my face every time I drive it, despite the haters. That's what matters, in my book.

Volkswagon love. I own a 03 Jetta gli Vr6, after a shitty day i drive that thing and it makes everything better
Exhaust so throaty. love it
My favorite episode!
I love Petrolicious. And this is one of the most enjoyable videos you've made
power to the recreational,driving enthusiasts!
The same history than I ! I have vintage car to fun too! It's amazing to do that.
Lovely vid. As a die-in-the-wool alfisti it was pure heaven hearing that Busso v6 howl. As Ike very poetically put it: "it's a very small commitment", such is the reward!
My Garage is usually 4 to 6 hours away depending on what part of the country im working in at the time. When I finally get home after a month of working away I feel like a kid on Christmas that first day off when I walk out to the shed with my cup of coffee and open up the doors... brings a smile to my face everytime, the hard bit is always which one to drive first!.
thanks petrolicious, awesome to just enjoy your loads.
Really hits home!
Amazing video, I enjoyed all 3 stories about dealing with the city of New York.
another great episode - funny, the places he drove around are the places I ride my Monster all the time. Love this city :)
Nice vid, i love driving downtown, nights and weekends are the best times. Brooklyn Bethel at 3:34
Great story that I agree with. This is the kind of thing that should be on TV vs news....
Loved it. Really conveys the passion for driving.
One of the best petrolicious episodes ever
Great video - two of my favorite cars included: 911 & GTV. Owning a car in NYC = commitment!
love this channel
Very nice ones again. These guys really love their cars and don't take them for granted. They sure appriciate them.
best yet. good job petrolicious... cars are meant to be enjoyed and driven.
Loved this video. Perfect balance between the owners and their cars. I've just been put on the insurance of a friend's 1958 Standard Pennant. Have been taking it through town as well as into the countryside. This video sums up my take on classic/historic cars. They cars should be driven, hence my inclusion on the insurance. Obviously come the Scottish winter it'll be garaged but back on the road once the salt is off the road in the spring. Hope to record some in car footage of it driving around scenic routes throughout Scotland.
I do this in Oakland! But mostly because there is no way I'm street parking a Porsche in Oakland...I always take bart to work and I live only a few blocks from several grocery stores. When I drive, it's because I want to, not because I need to.
Cool Video man, Thanks for sharing this!
This guy's attitude is refreshing. It's a car, drive it. Don't be afraid.
This is one of the most excellent channels on the youtube! I can totally relate to the guys featured in these episodes...
Great theme and three very cool cars to match! Didn't expect such a young guy driving that beautiful GTV. What a timeless machine....
I just love this channel
Stunning cars, great video, fantastic editing.
I really didn't expect that one as well. Got one big smile on my face !
way off topic here but it needs to be stated- the young man with the Alfa was very well spoken. Been quite a while since I heard a young person speak that properly and with that sort of genuine liveliness.
I have to agree with all three of these guys. I live right across the Hudson & constantly drive into the city. I have a passion for old cars as well & have never owned a car past '97(looking into buying a car made when I was 3y/o as of now), but I have never had a problem "dicing" with the cabs as the final gentleman so eloquently put it. I find it oddly comforting knowing that we have this extreme urban environment & extreme wilderness so comically close to one another for our driving enjoyment
Another great video!
Absolutely brilliant!
Great Video . . . Really interesting to Look behind the cars on the People and their Stories . . . Nice Alfa . . .cool beetle . . .
Second petrolicious video I watch. Thanks for choosing and telling these stories. There's a lot to identify with here.
I like the Airstream bambi @ 3:26.
Good to see others that enjoy driving as a leisure activity like myself. Most people just don't understand when I tell them I like to take drives. They always ask where I'm going & I say why does it matter?
Awesome!! It's cool you got Ralph Orlove!
Nice to see a driver like myself. I live in NYC too and feel it gives so much freedom. Its a 5 min walk to the garage, the nicks come from tight parking but who cares. Cars are meant to be enjoyed, not ogled sitting in a garage.
Great angle you guys took on this. Well done!
Such a great video and a beautiful 911.
Excellent concept guys, well done.
Brilliant video!
I definitely miss living in California. I loved the car friendly culture and the car friendly weather. It was a bummer moving to the NE of the US and having to store my car for most of the year.
I will never complain about my 15 minute walk to the car.
Thanks for this... really, uplifting stuff! Amazing people, amazing cars! Love has many shapes... usually around wheels :) For me it's cars and vinyl LP records... that's the juice of life! Great video!
Great video, great cars!
I miss driving for pleasure. I had an '84 Rabbit when I lived in San Francisco a few years ago. I only drove it when I wanted to. I would take MUNI everywhere during the week. My apartment was the garage where it was parked. It was perfect for an early 20's car guy.
The girst guy is pure energy 😀 I enjoy being around that kind of people 😎👍👍👍
Great video story. More please
just perfect video to describe a real car lover in big city.
Great video guys!
This only works if you have a classic car.something you want to drive, this is a alot.i love the passion!
Great :) I drive Lisbon, Portugal with my 1991 FIAT Tipo Sedicivalvole.
Lovely. Again.
This has just made me realize how much I take for granted. I live in a house with a closed garage, park at school in the structure, and park at work in a structure as well. 2/3 of those are free
That was a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL Porsche!
Waaohhh Dieses Blaumetallic des 911er. Eine Augenweide..... Und diese Fuchs 🦊Felgen.... Genial. Und dieser Motorensound.... Ich liebe es...
I can relate. I am from the NYC area and now live in Md. Suburbs, many years commuting to NYC from NJ. Now I walk 30 feet to the car with storage. NYC would be tough on my M5 2008 Aspirated engine 🚘sports car. I drive to NYC every three months.
GREAT video
I lived in Rockland County NY for 8 years and go back every few years. Some of the best and most beautiful roads to drive exist there. Also some of the craziest drivers 😅.
I got goosebumps when that GTV6 was revealed from under the cover.
I love driving. I cover a huge area (the mid Atlantic) and even though the train sometimes is more practical I almost ALWAYS choose to drive. I have two cars a Porsche and a Jetta, I TRY to take the Jetta most times but it’s hard when you have a perfectly fueled Porsche in the Garage. Either way, they still beat the train
If you live in Brooklyn it's not as bad. I used to live in southeast Brooklyn, not too far from Coney Island and Sheepshead Bay, and my house had a driveway and fairly easy street parking. Living in Manhattan is where it sucks to have a car.
Pretty cool garage in the pallisades.
Nice vid once again Petro ;-) thanks!
Good video showing how much it sucks driving NYC. I can't wait to move somewhere else...get my '90 ZR-1 onto better roadways.
Those that have never been would be amazed by the amazing roads in the NY suburbs, made for great sports cars
Once again, very beautiful video and cars ! But I'm glad I have my BMW e30 in front of my house though !
Great video
🙆♂️omg!...I'm blessed🙏 I live in California & I can drive my gorgeous vintage 911 at anytime & these gentlemen are my heros!...the guy with the Alfa, a real car lover for sure if you have to go through that much trouble just to get to your car. Hell, all I do is open my kitchen door that leads to my garage & bam!
Orlove from Jalopnik was in this, never knew
Beautiful car
really enjoyed this as it speaks to me as well. i'm a car enthusiast who moved to Midtown Manhattan and had to sell all my cars (down from 7 to just 1 now) and it's a ritual to get to my car to drive it (i walk to work), and i can't work on my car like i used to (no engine swaps on a street in Manhattan-- that guy with the VW cracked me up-- i've carried batteries, radiators through the subway system and people looked at me funny LOL). (i have a '92 Toyota Celica AllTrac Turbo, a "vintage" car)
Wow the Alfa Gtv is gorgeous! No wonder the dude makes an epic journey to go and drive it!
