I Drank Sake All Day in Nara, Japan's Ancient Capital!
Welcome to Nara, Japan - the city mainly known for its adorable and polite deer but has so much more to explore! Join Shizuka, as she embarks on a journey through the ancient capital, discovering hidden secrets behind Nara's sake culture.
Nara's was once Japan’s imperial capital (710 to 784 CE) - a pivotal time when Buddhism and Shinto coexisted - and this era left a mark on the region's spirituality and view of sake as an offering to the gods. The city has long been a hub of sake production, and we're here to explore the intricate connection between spirituality and the sake brewing tradition.
With Shizuka, tour a shrine, temple and two sake breweries scattered across Nara, each with its own unique connection to the local culinary legacy, and indulge in various sakes, as well as the local foods and flavors that perfectly complement the Nara sake experience.
Cheers!

Great Episode everyone! I was literally imagining a sweet, slightly syrup like sake with the strawberries, and a clean, sharper sake with the smokey chicken. I love the idea of a standing sake bar - grab a quick bite and a sake at a train station. A great way to taking care of being "hangry" - some food to settle the tummy, and sake to relax (or numb) the mind. We could use that at Union Station and some of the subway stations in Toronto. Thanks again Japan by Food team! Shizuka, hugs from Canada!

I have never heard of a person's tongue oozing out oil 21:28 regardless of what they just ate. Either Shizuka has a sponge for a tongue, or the high-grade Saki was finally having its intended effect. Shizuka sure works hard for her money, and I hope she got a bonus for this episode!
