Colbert, John Oliver, Meyers, and most late show hosts quote news networks and newspapers all the time to give context to their comedy - not always to make fun of bad journalism. Colbert has invited Christiane Amanpour on his show. John Oliver gets many story ideas from newspapers. I think it's a bit of a dangerous and cynical take to suggest that getting news from comedians is superior than reading/listening/watching the news - though always with a critical eye.

​@@clee89You're right. It is cynical. But, in some cases, they actually do go more into depth with the television coverage of the subjects at hand. And, the reason is because the "regular news" are all about boiling it down to snippets. I guess what I'm really saving is that the customer gets what they want. And, for the most part, I guess they don't want in-depth news anymore. Unless it comes from the mouth of someone willing to entertain them, too The jesters now do news.

Clowns or more specifically jesters have long been an important voice in many countries who could speak the truth or bring up issues others couldn't specifically because they were "just joking" - but even "just joking" the things were said and issues were highlighted. I think all of the big Late Shows are being exactly this for the US, and this is very good to have.

@@189vans yeah, I watched what I thought was the 2nd clip, only to realize it was the 3rd, because I noticed her book on the desk that he introduced in the actual 2nd clip. They always do this with multi-part guest segments. They even upload them out of order. There is no way to tell, unless you just guess. I have no idea why they can’t label the parts. It would take seconds, and would alleviate this consistent annoyance for the fans

1 thing that I always find interesting about ALL talk shows (especially this 1 because the stage is the largest). When the guest is introduced then make their way to greet the host and eventually to the couch. You can Always tell which guests would rather be somewhere else. 99% Smile and acknowledge and wave to the audience. Only a Few DO Not. Some guests are not concerned about your "Acceptance". Jen Passes all the tests of being "Likable"!

Pity she didn't have the opportunity to go into detail. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes when it comes to diplomacy. Beau of the Fifth Column does a good job explaining that aspect. Wish more journalists would take a similar approach.

I fell in love with Jen Psaki when she was press secretary. Still think she's very smart and a strong communicator BUT I am not a fan of Inside with Jen Psaki. The press secretary gig was a better fit her IMO. The new show still doesn't feel like the best showcase for her gifts. I'm not sure why. It's as though she's following the pattern set by other anchors rather than honoring and polishing her own unique style. I hope MSNBC gives her the space to become the truly unique talent that she is.

Anyway, as I said, I'm not exactly sure what's not working for me. I still adore and respect Jen. She remains a "wow!" but the show is NOT a "wow" for me. My guess is that if she was her own boss, e.g., hand-picked her own production team, it wouldn't look exactly as it does now.

It would help if you explained that not all aid is being withheld. They will still have a missile defense but carpet bombs are not acceptable in civilian populated areas.
