I had something similar happen to me after I made the sale and the buyer received the item. The buyer sent me a message claiming the quality of the product (lotion) was sub par and asked if there was anything I could do about it. I got suspicious and looked at the feedback left by the seller. I found a lot of "Thanks for making things right!" comments. I told the buyer that I had sold the same product many times in the past with no problems or complaints. I asked what the buyer wanted me to do. The buyer responded, "a partial refund for favorable feedback". I told the buyer that the request was extortion and not permitted by eBay which was now on record. I never heard from the buyer again. 😉

Yeah unfortunately buyers like this are somewhat common. Luckily they are generally not very smart, like the one you encountered.

You are spot on! I run eBay business full time for almost 10yrs. I would go further and say every time you see a stupid question come through that is information in your listing BLOCK THEM. You have people come back at you for stupidity about an item sold BLOCK THEM. You have someone send you a question, check their provided feedback and if you see red and grey BLOCK THEM, don't even waste your time answering the question. You have people want it for cheap making offers when you are not open to offers check the feedback and if red and grey BLOCK THEM. Anyone who blames you for slow postal times when you have sent it within your handling time pos,neg or neu BLOCK THEM. Anyone leaving positive neg feedback although its not a neg BLOCK THEM. The BLOCK BUTTON is your best friend and weeds out the morons who will ruin your business ranking. Ebay are so useless as removing the negatives its best you dont have to deal with them. You dont see a bank lending money to anyone only A grade customers. Dont deal with low lifes as they will only cause you drama and loose you money. Maybe if eBay would be more realistic on removing negs then you might back off a bit but until then BLOCK BLOCK and BLOCK the morons.

I’m feeling a bit smug now! Had almost identical situation last night, but followed same procedure whilst chastising myself for wasting time but found buyer only left negatives. I’m liking being as SMART as Samson! You’re a true blue legend, if I was half as smart as you I’d be quids in front 👍

I’ve started checking the LEFT FOR OTHERS feedback for most of my buyers. Thanks for sharing this…these bad buyers need to be avoided at all costs. Blocking is our only spdefense. Thank-you !!

Exactly! Keep your $5. Solid way to protect your account while following all eBay rules. I have a few names blocked, but just in case, will be adding yours to my account. The great majority of the eBay community is great, but so much time can be wasted weekly if you end up selling to one or two of these buyers. As always, thanks for the great content!

I wouldn't be too concerned. First time buyers are usually fine (sometimes a bit confused) in my experience.

Very helpful info, thank you, I’ve sold a few items this year for $2000+ on eBay and none of the buyers have left me feedback at all. I made sure these purchases were fully insured and sent signature on delivery despite buyers choosing the cheapest postage option. I’m not getting screwed out of my profits or items!

I had a similar situation recently got an offer from a buyer on a bag checked the feedback left for others and declined their offer because I didn't want a negative feedback. Shortly after that I sent offers on the item and received a message from the same buyer asking for details about the item because they had received another offer somehow. So blocking the buyer also is a good idea., just in case. Thanks for the good advice!

That’s some deep info…I didn’t know selling on eBay was that cut-throat -can I say that, or will I get suspended or banned like on FB??? 🤷🏻‍♂️🙄😂 I’m not looking to be a full time seller, but would like to start something small as a side hustle. Vintage shirts as per husband and wife team Ralli Roots has a steep learning curve. Used sports shoes from charity shops as per Hairy Tornado requires low buy in, regular sales with double to 5 times profit after fees and free shipping.

Akil McLeod buys used shoes and new (at 70% or more discount). Nike then Asics for brands. Shoes have part numbers to help you decide what to buy and determine sell price.

@@UndercoverLover203 No not at all, they sell way quicker then clothing. Main issue is I cant get them consistently without running around town. Clothing on the other hand I could have 10,000 pieces at my front door by next Friday if I wanted.
